Animal Autopsies

I find this odd.

I can watch animals eat each other on nature programs, but I do not like to be around people eating animals. I can watch autopsies and surgical procedures on humans with a certain degree of fascination, but I cannot watch animal autopsies. I can watch people being cut up, shot, and torn to bits in movies (especially since it is all staged), but I cannot watch the same things being done to animals, even though I know none of it is real.

Is it just me?

I AM THE BIGGEST JOHN FAN!
Yes :P
You say you want to save humanity but it`s people that you just can`t stand
John came to me in a dream and this is what he said. "I had a vision of a man on a flaming pie, and he told me that Betsy with a B not Lisa with a L is the biggest fan of mine". John trumps 'the boss' !

Well, I dislike violence and gore on anyone so maybe in that sense I can't relate. But maybe if you see an animal being harmed on television there's a degree of helplessness that they have which makes you more sympathetic... perhaps?

I hate to see animals being hurt and I'm definitely with you on humans eating animals vs. animals eating animals. Humans are supposed to have compassion.

Mozart, no it's not just you. I remember at an early age seeing Bambi for the first time. Made me cry seeing how his mother was shot by a hunter. Ever since that movie, and I believe that Walt Disney was an animal activist in his day, I have abhored violence to animals. They don't ask to be on someone's plate or ask to be worn. They just want to live their lives. They want love and respect, too. If you believe in the Bible in any way, shape, or form I truly believe that God put them here to be our companions not our food or clothing. I can handle seeing staged violence against adults, not children however, but can not tolerate it with animals.

I can't watch animal necropsies either. I can't watch animals being harmed, fictional or otherwise. I even avert my eyes when those awful chain restaurant commercials come on TV, you know the ones; KFC, Burger King, Applebee's, TGI Fridays, etc. It really upsets me that some people either think so little of animals or don't even realize that their dinners were once living breathing creatures.

Personally, I like to ignore all television commercials, but Burger King ads do not bother me any more than Tampax ads. Now if they actually showed what goes on behind the scenes, I would be repulsed (with Burger King, not Tampax).

sorry but an animal autopsy wouldn't bother me one bit. In my opinion is not on the same level as a humans, hell throw that bad boy on the grill, cook it well, pass the ketchup and lets dig in.

Tony, I can't quite believe you said that. It was a little insensitive, in my opinion.

Not on the same level as humans? I think you have major opposition from most of us on that issue.

No offense taken as long as you're not an animal that is being ready to be carved by somebody who thinks of animals being less than humans.

I think what Fiona meant was that humans can be classified as animals, too.

He said "bad boy", so that leaves some of us in the clear.

Thanks to certain message boards, I have recently seen video footage of a baby autopsy and a turkey being executed.

I found the turkey video far more disturbing.

Well, as you'd probably expect on this issue, I don't agree with Tony, but he's entitled to have his opinion... maybe he could have expressed himself in a little more of a sensitive way, but never mind. ^_^

I agree with Tony that watching the death and destruction of animals is not on the same level as with humans. As I have said, I would much rather watch the humans on the short end of the stick.

I think you feel this way because you see animals as helpless. Would you feel any different if it was an infant human?

No, I do not see animals as helpless. Many of them could kill me without breaking a sweat. Conversely, I could never kill anything larger than a cockroach without feeling like sh*t.

Then I ask again, would you be more upset watching an animal autopsy then an infant childs? A 3 month olds? a 1 year old?

Personally I can't stand to see autopsies done on either animals or humans, although I don't mind watching those reality ER shows on cable, or surgeries.

For me it's very painful to see a hurt animal though, I guess because they are helpless and can't express their pain or thoughts. I just can't bear to see or hear an animal in pain.

Why does one have to be more upsetting that the other? Can't they both be upsetting and left at that?

As for watching video footage of a baby autopsy and a turkey being executed, I think that I would also find the turkey video far more disturbing. Watching an autopsy means that the creature is already dead, but watching life being taken away is a helpless gut wrenching experience. At least that's how I view it.

If I had to chose, I would rather watch the autopsy on the infant human than on the animal (at any age).
