My darling Fiona,

I guess I'm not easiest person in the world to live with sometimes. Life brings me down with all it's many pressures, the intense shift work I do leaves me often desperately tired, with me going to bed as early as 7pm some days and getting up in the middle of the night... I know I'm a shell of myself. Quiet, unresponsive, a little grumpy perhaps - it's not how I want to be and I don't think it's really how I would be if things were different, if work was easier. I'm really sorry if it leaves you feeling that you left your friends and your Mother behind in California for me and I'm not exactly everything you want me to be all the time. Please know that no matter how tired I am, however down or depressed I may feel at that particular moment in time, I still love you with every single fibre of my being. Some days - in fact most days - you're the only thing that keeps me going, knowing that you're here for me, knowing that I can see your face and those deep, soulful eyes and I know that everything is worth it - life is good.

Things are different than when we first met, we'd have to be in denial to not acknowledge that. It's not all poetry, flowers and obvious grand gestures of romance from me all the time like it was in the beginning - but there still will be poetry, hearts and flowers sometimes - all of that hasn't gone, it's just less intense than it used to be. It happens... but it's a deeper, more complete love we have now. I see romance in other things, the things we share every day like when we're in bed, asleep, and either one of us reaches out for the other just to hold each other briefly, fleetingly... I see romance in the many conversations we have when we're talking about life, politics, people, the things that make us who we are... and I see that certain something in your eyes that makes me know, without doubt, that you love me. To me, it's romantic as hell just walking down the street with you, hand in hand, exchanging smiles, glances and those little squeezes of our hand we give each other. There's love in everything I do for you, the meals I cook, the cups of tea I make... in fact, most of the wise-cracks I make on this board are in the hope that I can make you laugh. I still desperately want you to like me, you know. I'm still trying to impress even though perhaps I don't need to as much, but that's just me.

I want to do everything with you - from the mundane to the spectacular. From watching movies, listening to music and eating meals together to travelling the world, getting married, buying a house, having a baby (or two?) and eventually growing old and probably dying with you - if that doesn't sound too much to contemplate at this moment in time. I don't see a future unless it includes you - you have made every other relationship I have ever had seem ridiculous and insignificant compared to us. You're all I want from a companion - you're loving, honest, witty, incredibly smart, sexy, beautiful and very human. There are ways in which we're different, but our similarities are striking and they lead to a very real, deep understanding between us, which I love and cherish. Nobody could ever love you as much as I do... which is quite a bold statement considering how lovable you are, but I wholeheartedly believe it to be true. You're my world - without you... well, I don't even want to think about it.

I never take you for granted - I hope you never feel as if I do... nothing could be further from the truth. You're my life and I love you so very much. As long as you want me I will always be yours, darling Fiona... my beautiful best friend.

With all my love forever,

Your Andy
xxxxxxxxx

p.s. If anyone wants to tell us to 'get a room' they are very welcome, but please bear in mind that we already have one and we're not afraid to use it. ;)
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

That was beautiful (((Andy))). I wish that my husband would write something as sweet -_-

Relationships take a lot of hard work and there's lots of highs and lows with many different phases over the years. If its meant to be, then its worth all the work.

We've been together for 36 years and will have our 30th wedding anniversary on Monday. It hasn't been easy over the years but we have a lot to be thankful for and especially thankful to have each other.

I want to wish both of you all the best and many years together.
And in the end...The love you take..Is equal to the love you make.

Get a room. :P

No really. If everything was always sunshine and rainbows life would be boring. Like I told my hubby on our anniversary, "Through all the ups, downs, ins and outs, I truly love you and thank God for our life together." The true test of love comes with communicating effectively and respecting each other enough to over come the dark clouds.

As for you Andy, sounds like your whipped.

I hope you know I am kidding. Best wishes to you both

Tassy

Well, I don't really know what to say...!

Andy left for work before I even got up and now that I find this I'm feeling quite unworthy.

I woke up with such a warm feeling today. After our conversation last night when we talked and cried and it was clear to me that I could never worry about two hearts so close drifting apart, this was really unnecessary, but... wow.

I wish I had such a way with words as you, Andy. I hope I get my feelings across somehow. I hope you can tell that they mirror yours and that it all comes down to whether you love me or not.

I guess you do. Thanks for making me feel like a fumbling, bumbling fool. ^_^ I love you with all my... fibres, also. :D

Oh, I just found this, and it gave me just the biggest thrill. This, ladies and gentlemen, is what people are talking about when they say "storybook love". Andy, that was beautiful, you and Fiona are so lucky - I know you know that, but it's true. I love it. :)

What a wonderful message! You are so cool -- Fiona what a guy you got there. I feel fortunate that such lovely people like you are our moderators. :)

Speaking as someone in the seventh year of a very happy marriage, yes, the huge beginning rush of romance cannot last but the sweetness of many kind moments do. Thanks for letting us all in on one of yours; it certainly made my day a little happier.

Thank you everyone for your kindness - as Paul once said, "It's not just a loving machine, it doesn't work out if you don't work at it". I was a little hesitant about whether I should post it for the world to see, but I'm glad I did now. :)

I love romance. My husband (we will be married 26 years in Aug) is a pretty romantic guy, but he isn't one for showing me with WORDS...its in the things he does. I, on the other hand, am more of a wordy kinda gal...so he DOES and I SAY...or is it HE DOES WHAT I SAY? Hahaha...maybe thats why we've been married so long!

I'm glad we 'met' on the phone too, Linda - we had a couple of really great chats when we were in the States. That reminds me - we were going to call another couple of people when we got back to England and it never happened... we'll have to rectify that! ^_^

Hey Merry, as if we'd ever forget you! ^_^

We have a international phone plan so calls to the U.S. are only 2p per minute - it's easily affordable for us if you fancy a chat soon. :)

I have no romantic male relatives nor friends I'm afraid... I sometimes think romance doesn't exist outside of movies these days, but we do our best to keep it alive. :)
