...And one of Australia's, too! This is for all of you who have seen, owned, or loved a possum at least once in your life! And Jacaranda (or Lisa). So, here's to the cutest critter since the dodo bird. ![]() Did I mention that I will be taking this opportunity to post lots of pictures? |

I'm from California, too. I guess that's a decent place to get a glimpse of their slow waddle. I wish I'd seen more and I'm very anxious to show one to Andy. |

No such critters in England? I know I didn't see any when I lived in the city, but I'm in a much more rural setting and see all kinds of wonderful creatures, some wanted and some unwanted, like our friendly skunks! That's one critter I can do without! |

Oh, those pictures are so cute, I love possums too!
We have some around here and north of me, but sadly there's so much traffic that they don't often survive! I've walked up to them before and looked into their face (well not REAL close) and they really are very cute! We have raccoons too, but many of them too wind up as road kill. Merry

How cute! I was sitting at the kitchen table and don't have blinds/drapes on this window in the back of the house and I sensed something was out there. I figured it might be one of my 6 cats, but it was this huge guy all stretched out against the window, just peering in...it was as if he was saying, "please let me in!" The same thing happened with a skunk that I almost let in! Oops. |

The series of possum pictures you posted are adorable, Fiona! You know, in the seventh one it looked as though the owner and his buddy were very happy with their close relationship and I halfway expected the final and eighth one to depict the possum sitting in an easy chair with a pipe in his mouth and a drink at his side...feet up, reading a newpaper! Those are all just precious! Now I wish I could have a little baby all of my own, too. Merry

Funny about that one lucky b*stard with the possum on his shoulder -- my dad had a possum, Pogo, who would ride on his shoulder all the time. One of the tamest animals ever, Pogo would eat dog food out of a bowl and go to work with my Dad (a park ranger) and take walks with my Dad, always riding on his shoulder. here is a photo of another lucky b*stard -- this particular b*stard has had the luck to raise (and photograph) SEVERAL litters of possums.... http://theopossumpage.com/pictures06.html |

For those of you who have, or haven't seen the new animated movie, "Over the Hedge" yet, William Shatner of Star Trek fame, lends his voice to a Daddy Possum. He's hilarious!! He "overacts", pretends to die, but is just "playing possum". I roared through most of the movie. Just had to share that "possum" tidbit.
