Lady and the Tramp is one of my favorites also, as well as Alice in Wonderland and Bambi.
I hope you get back to Disneyworld, Molly. Never been, but I've been lucky enough to live in Southern California for most of my life and have decent access to the original park (and even an annual pass!) and I've taken Andy a couple of times... he's had a really great time. I'm a huge enthusiast, as you will soon find out if you haven't already!

I love the animated films, of course, but I really love the old movies like Darby O'Gill & The Little People, Mary Poppins, Herbie the Love Bug, Greyfriar's Bobby, those ones. I just love them. Come to think of it, I don't have Herbie...but, I have all of the others I mentioned. |

I used to watch a lot of the cartoons and films when I was a kid. My sister loved The Fox and The Hound and that always made me really sad, so too Bambi I guess. I think my favourites are The Lion King, Aristocats, 101 Dalmations and Jungle Book. But I liked them all really. However I think Dreamworks are becoming a great competator as I love Shrek.
Ive been to the Magic Kingdom a few times. First few was when I lived in Miami when I was a toddler and then again when I was 14. I did enjoy it. Splash Mountain was great. |

Good point there about rivalries. Dreamworks supposedly parodied Disneyland in Shrek but I just think that's one hell of a stretch. I imagine that it's only rational to assume that Dreamworks and Disney are competitors (Shrek outgrossed Nemo!) but Disney Animation Studios and Dreamworks have signed to co-produce before. As for the other major animation studio, Pixar, they've been bought by Disney. |

My all time Disney Favourites are Robin Hood and Merlin and Mim I don't know the title of the original - it is the story of King Arthur and Merlin and Madam Mim. I LOVED THAT STORY FROM THE BEGINNING - and that was one of the first remembrance I have of the Artus story. Later I started to study my subjects English and German because I loved that story deeply.... Astrid |

![]() "it's a small world": The happiest cruise that ever sailed! Surreal and silly, or sweat and touching, you are a well intentioned 1960s homage to the world's diversity that unfortunatly inspires feelings of sheer terror in those who can't help but feel something more sinister lays beneath your shiney surface. But most cannot deny your charm, even if they cannot explain it, and leave feeling better than when they entered. Most overlook the fact that because of your unique style and design, courtesy of Disney Legend Mary Blair, you are a true work of art and you deserve to be appreciated. You are both worldy and simplistic, both cosmopolitan and decidedly middle American. You are a splendid candy-coated contradiction with a sugary, sunny song that one never forgets. If the world truely listened to your never-ending optimism, it could be a small world after all.

I've been there every time I go for lunch and for dinner and it IS amazing! Just gorgeous it's on my list too. I have thought of splitting my stay between the Poly and GF!! When I get rich that is! LOL! Actually, I usually use codes and dont' do too badly. I wouldn't DREAM of staying off property though unless it was a super good deal and even then probably not. I am in those parks from sun up till the last closing on an E ride night so it's nice to have the room right there. No driving AND to be able to get out of the heat of the middle of the day by wandering the resort and swimming in those amazing pools. I STILL want to try stormalong Bay sooo badly!! Why can't I just move into Cinderellas castle and be done with it!! DARN IT!! That apartment up there with Tink is MINE! LOL! Edit: Has anyone done the chefs table at Victoria and Alberts?? I want to so badly but, no one will go with me. |

Wow! I think I hate you. I've only ever stayed at the Disnyeland Resort so I can't really pick and choose but I hope to stay at the Grand Californian next time so as to have access to the parks all... week? I really was meant to be rich, I'm certain of it. I'd love to go to Florida. Disneyland may be the original, built by Walt's own hands, but Disneyworld has had the advantage of progress and Disney trying to top it's own work!Question (this should be fun): Should Song of the South be released (other than on ebay for 50 big ones)? Is Eisner being a wuss and stifling history or is Roy Disney taking the movies impact way too lightly? If it's to be released, should a disclaimer be shown before the film starts or is focusing on the negative just going to make things worse? Discuss.

Song of the South is a classic and I think Roy isn't understating things. There are tons of cartoons of that era we all still watch and nobody makes a big deal of it much. I think making an "issue" of it will bring on more negativity than just letting it be and experiencing the film for what it is. |

I'm inclined to agree but Fantasia was edited for racism, and I believe, rightfully so. What makes this one any different? |

Take Tom & Jerry - they are shown throughout the world, and some racism and certainly violence are certainly evident. No one seems to mind though, and maybe Disney is the one making the big deal out of it. One thing I WAS suprised about in Disney, was the amount of toy guns, whole racks of them, on sale in the Pirates of the Carribean shop. I hate guns with a passion, and yes, i understand the fun of being "Jack Sparrow", but the way they are racked and displayed in that shop made me cringe. Funny - Disney won't release an old film that is slightly racist, but will influence kids in the form of masses of guns (whose only use is to KILL). Smacks of double standards and money making to me. I have to admit, for such a family orientated company, Disney really suprised me there. |

I love Fantasia and I kind of wish they'd left it alone, I mean you could argue that there's a ton o sexism in many of Disney's other films too and I don't see them cutting that out! I just don't take them that seriously really being classics I'm more interested in the feeling of the film and I feel kind of odd when an old film is edited that way. I also didn't care for them colorizing all those old films when they did that. I suppose they are trying to be correct about this and I can see why, it's just film is so important as an archive of the time it was made to me. Mr. Bellamy I AGREE about the guns! My son wasn't allowed playing with "toy" guns as I didn't feel it was something I wanted him to automatically associate with being a kid or a "boy" to do that. Besides there's are too many GOOD toys around to have them playing with guns. Scary. I will be happy just to have this film released again. It's up to them what they do with it. I'll watch it either way. |

Help! certainly is culturally ignorant but I think by 1965 The Beatles were striving to overcome those ageold stereotypes. Fantasia, on the other hand, would make me extremely uncomfortable today if the little centaurette had been left in it. As a child, those scenes were some of my favorite and while the original may not have been overtly hateful, you would have to have a lot of faith in the parental guidance of children who might start to see that sort of thing as acceptable. Some people really object, but I think getting someone like Roy Disney to give a little background on Song of the South and it's historical context as a part of the rerelease would be a good thing and who knows... if Eisner is pushed to quit, we might just see it. On a lighter note, Here's some Bambi. P.S. Good point with the guns, Gary. I hate some of the plastic crap they sell and I highly disapprove of guns being seen as toys. I think it leads to a lot of the problems today with people being so blasé about violence. |

Despite your older humor, you are a kid at heart and kids most relate to your cartoony world and like you the best. You've been know to make the adults a little queasy and a litte bit dizzy. You leave your visitors dazed, a little confused, but more often, extremely amused. You take us to the places we'd never see in a ride featuring the straight-laced Mickey, but somehow you're still all Disney.

The ride is improved at DW I think....we went on it a few weeks ago and really the only difference is they put the Jack Sparrow character in a few scenes...and there is the HUGE ship in the beginning of the ride.... AWSOME RIDE!!

   LMAO sweetie...SPOT ON THERE!! Here's ME............... Space Mountain: A thrilling rocket ride through the darkness of outer space! Futuristic and forward thinking, you have just enough 2001-esk elements without escaping Walt Disney's utopian vision for a brighter tomorrow. You represent speed, stealthness, and the promise of technology, while your Dick Dale surf guitar riff of a soundtrack makes you retro and mysterious, without being corny. Keep the lights low and avoid revealing too much, lest you ruin the show, you're only going 28 mph! Regardless of speed, you prove that in the vacuum in space, you CAN hear people scream MMMM NOT sure....maybe that IS me!!

I've been to The Magic Kingdom 3 times now. Twice when I was very young and living in America and then in 1993 where we had a four day pass so choose to go to the theme park twice. Splash Mountain was such a great ride. I used to love watching all the short Disney cartoons when I was a kid plus the classic films. |

Racism is a huge part of American history, we can't just erase it and pretend it never happened. I think it's wrong to take it out of old films, Disney or any other. It really helps demonstrate how far we've come in a surprisingly short amount of time. |

Another Disney freak here! It's all my mother's fault. She went out to Disneyland in 1958 with her best friend, and she's been obsessed with Disney ever since. She even had a part-time job at Disney World a couple of years ago. I don't think I could ever count how many times I've been to Disneyland or to Disney World. One of the DVD sets of Warner Brothers cartoons has an introduction by Whoopi Goldberg explaining that while some of the cartoons are amazingly racist, censoring them would be like denying the racism ever existed. Disney should release "Song Of The South" in the US. It is not nearly as racist as "Bugs Bunny Nips The Nips" and was a technological breakthrough in its time. People talk about how "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" combined live action and animation in 1988, but "Song Of The South" did it in 1946. |

I want to see Song of the South available as much as anybody but it won't be seen as a testament to how far we've come unless it's shown in some sort of context. I've seen and heard a lot of opinions on Sunflower and Uncle Remus and it's hard to find anyone who doesn't think they should be resurfaced just because 'it happened'. I don't believe editing or choosing to not rerelease as a DVD is exactly denial. Disney may wish it had never happened (especially as, even in those days, it wasn't absolutely necessary to be a racist) but we all know it did. I think their main concern (this is not a defense of Mr. CEO) is that these films were intended for the enjoyment of young children, not as a reference for what an unenlightened time the 1940's were. That is what the films will become and that is what Disney do not want. I think. The distributed racist broadcasts of other companies have not been recently welcomed with the same joy they once were and have faded into history. |

Pathetic, isn't is Val? That's what I get for being honest with my answers! (I was all set to "be" the Haunted Mansion, or something cool like that!) Your experiences read like an action adventure flick (could it be that you are based on one?) and your John Williams-esk score makes you grandiouse, purposeful, and larger than life. Fully immersive and completely themed, you really do give your passengers a wild ride and work hard for their sastifaction... in fact each trip through your caverns of fire, snake pits, lightening illuminated ruins, and dart filled passages is just a little different. You are chaotic, but to the point and somehow you bring out the noble side in everyone, the inner Indiana Jones in every soul, even if Disneyland couldn't secure the rights to the likeness of Harrison Ford. Thanks for those links Val!! I always plan a resort visiting day when I'm there. It's worth it and I wish I had more time. Animal Kingdom ALONE is worth day in itself....of course planning for eating at BOTH BOMA AND JINKO!! You can visit the Poly to watch the fireworks from the beach there too. LOVELY! There is so much to do I still haven't done everything I wanted to and I've gone there and stayed eight and nine days at a stretch. The Boardwalk is a blast even if you just wonder around and maybe visit JellyRolls at night....Illuminations is so beautiful I can never get enough of going to watch that. Spectromagic too!!!!!!!! OMG! I saw so many grown ups with tears in their eyes at that parade. It really is beautiful. Yes, Celebration IS a little stepfordwife ..ish but, it's worth a visit too.   It's not a leisurely vacation that's for SURE. But it's so worth it. Haunted Mansion is wonderful!!!!!!! We try and go there at least twice while we visit. I have to confess those lines for IASM drive me looney too! If you don't get there at rope drop and make a dash for that area of the park you will be waiting forEVER to get to that ride. E ride nights are wonderful though Olen! We used two of the E tickets last time and went in at night. It was cooler and less crowded and we could practically walk on to the rides we wanted. I heard they cut out E tickets. I sure hope not, does anyone know if they have discontinued E ticket nights for those staying on property??? |

The last two times we went to Disney World, we stayed inside the park at Shades of Green. It's a resort for military families. We got to go into the park an hour before the crowds and were able to ride several rides before the masses rushed in. As for not waiting in line, I had a friend that went there a couple of weeks ago with his wife & kids. They used E tickets and went right onto the rides. I'll have to check into doing that the next time I take my family. |

Ruth, I think E-Ride Nights are extinct, the Fastpasses having replaced them for all the same rides. But the Extra Magic Hours picked up where E-Ride Nights left off in 2004. We don't get them!

We used both fastpass AND eride nights. I am VERY disappointed they have done away with Eride nights as it was so HOT when we were there that waiting on line was a bit much even with the fastpasses it still was a long wait for some rides. I guess I will have to plan a lot more to get on those lines that are harder this time. Eride nights allowed us to walk right on to rides in comfortable temps and to meet and greet characters really easily. Olen, I haven't ever stayed at SOG but, I've heard very good things!! Didn't they just renovate it not long ago????!!! We stayed at CBR and Cornado Springs last time since we wanted to add extra days. I must say they were both a lot of fun to stay in too. I want so much to stay at AKL and the Poly next trip and I'm planning for that. Without eride nights, I will have to be there at rope drop and take a break in the heat of the day, then go back in the later evening....we usually plan a late lunch to get out of the heat and skip dinner..or spend those hottest hours at the resort pool. There have been rumors on the DIS boards about eride nights. Anyone here a DIS member too???? LOL! I cannot go to disney without planning my trip on there. For one thing it saves me a TON of money since all the codes are on there for discounts....AND Mouse Ears newsletter is invaluable for that as well. Both sites are free!! Happy Planning! You can buy the Passporter guide book to Disney the year of your trip WELL in advance and it will have pockets in there for your tickets etc. It has removable pages so the day you go to Magic Kingdom for example you do not have lug around the other part of the guide. It's lightweight. Extremely informative and comes with coupons for discounts too! ALL the numbers for your reservations are easily listed. I cannot brag on that guidebook enough and I've got ALL the others. This one is the most functional and helpful of them all!!!!!!!! It's also not too big to put in a fanny pack, I'm all about going light weight and efficient in those parks, AND discounts! LOL Last trip I went for eight days, stayed on property, rented a car, went to the dinner shows, and flew all for less than 2800.00 dollars CANADIAN for three people. LOL!!!! But it takes a lot of planning to do that. Get those codes and use them and reserve early for all your activities. Told you I am a Disney planning ninja! LMAOOOOOOOOO!! Mousesavers was invaluable. I haven't been on DIS in AGES now but, I'm PixieDustTink on there. Hope to see you round the DIS too!!!!!!!!!! Now get that lime green ribbon and maybe I'll see you in the parks. OH I forgot, I did two illuminations cruises last trip too.....you can share a cruise with other DIS members and split the cost. So if a one hour cruise on a boat that holds 12 people is 250.00 dollars for the hour, they will fill the boat and split that cost with those sharing with you. I think we paid 30.00 dollars doing it this way and so got to watch Illuminations from the water on a great pontoon boat for very, very little! I took champagne too and they didn't mind. It was LOVELY!! I've got a picture here somewhere of me and my son on the boat with other DIS members! I'll see if I can find it! Tips??? LMAO! I Have a TONS!! I'm loving this thead!!
Use discount codes and reserve EARLY for your rooms etc. STAY on top of those codes because they sell out early. So when a new one comes out then you will want to jump on it. I stayed for 80 dollars per night at moderates last trip. I also got a discount on Hoop De Doo and the Poly dinner show as well. I got discounts on all our meals at sit down venues in the parks. And rented our car *a PT cruiser* for 133.00 dollars for eight days including gas!! Those codes are a great way to the MAGIC and a LOT more of it!! But it takes a ton of planning. It is WELL WORTH IT!

Yes the deluxe version is worth it! Remember you can remove pages as needed. I still have my older versions as a keepsake of our trip! I love the little sections you can write a mini diary of your day in the parks. Looking back through it years later, I find it to be such a treasure. The deluxe version is the only one with the removable pages. Go for it. I was like you undecided about this guidebook and I'd already bought the other popular ones. While Birbaums is good and a couple of others NONE were as useful as Passporter. I also found Passporters information on park hours and rides more up to date than the others. I get all excited planning too! It's half the fun of going! |

If you have a problem with crowds, go to Disneyland Paris. I have been there many times and have yet to see it crowded. Hong Kong Disneyland was pretty empty (by Disney standards), but that place just blows. Disney World is too American. Too many people in line trying to get all up in that without even buying me dinner first. And Florida is just too hot to be outdoors. |

Disney Paris is nothing compared to the resorts in Florida. You can spend whole days at Disney without actually spending a cent - just boat hopping round the resorts, and taking in the sites. It's a paradise, and you need the sun and heat in paradise....and I am speaking as a Brit!! The Disney area in Florida is like a state.....it's so clean, so well cared for and a credit to the company. The lines have never been too bad when I have been, and the Disney organisation is superb. The resort lobbies are open to all, and are worth seeing just for the awe factor....this doesn't happen in Paris. As for Disney being to American...well....it IS American!!  It's 40 minutes down the road from us...and it's like living in a dream....roll on next Thursday when we go on the cruise...HUGELY excited about that...and will share pictures when we get back!! |

SO it really surprised me when I heard DISNEY (one of the BIGGEST American Institutions) was being opened in Paris.... And MOZART......DISNEY IS AMERICAN....
Gary , Ruthie and I stand firm  ....WE LOVE DISNEY FLORIDA....I'm sure I'd love all the other Disneys too...just never been... one thing I DO agree with though...Florida is REAL HOT in the summer...

I hear that complaint about it being HOT there all the time, hells bells people, there's a swimming pool every two feet in Florida and every indoor place is kept cold as a meat locker, it's also surrounded by ocean breezes so I think I'll have to struggle on through with what they have to offer!!

Mine is not an unequivocal Disney fan account but it is generally positive - still if you feel it might upset you then please don't read it! My first time was Disneyland Paris ten years ago, not long after it had been renamed from being Euro Disney. It was a great day out in a theme park sort of a way with some familiar characters thrown in. The queues were pretty good not too much waiting about and the weather was fine, mostly sunshine but with a wee bit of drizzle which helped when you were treking up one or two of the steeper inclines. If somebody was going to Paris though I would be more likely to recommend the more traditional attractions of the city. A couple of years ago I was really lucky and won an all expenses paid holiday to Disney World in Florida which included seven day passes for the Disney parks
What can I say there was just no comparison, the sheer scale of it is unimaginable until you have been there. The variety of things to do was phenomenal and I have to be honest a wee bit stressful - there was just so much and no way you could fit it all in. The weather was fantastic and as we went outwith school holiday periods the queues weren't bad at all. We got some much needed winter sunshine. It is superbly organised (every ride brought you out into a shop at the end - parents be warned.) It was very efficient the resort staff were extremely helpful and they seemed like they genuinely wanted to please. Everything was cheerful and nothing too much trouble which by the end of my stay I was a tad fed up with - perverse I know! I really didn't want to see another Mickey Mouse character as long as I lived by that stage. The honeymoon couple wearing a veil and top hat were really getting on my nerves by the end of a week and Winne the Pooh seemed out of place to me. Still that was a couple of years ago and now I'm raring to go back again. Next time I'd just go on which ever ride had the shortest queue at the time and not care if they weren't the 'in thing' They are all great so it really doesn't matter. I wouldn't stay in the resort itself either, not that there is anything wrong with it at all - but I personally need a bit of time away from it to really appreciate it. A couple of day passes every year or two would be ideal for me I think. Now that I've been to Florida I'm not sure I'd want to go anywhere else, maybe California - but I think Disney is an American experience and should be experienced in America. OK I think I'm going to start saving now. |
