DALEKS IN MANHATTEN/EVOLUTION OF THE DALEKS

Well to start off with another incredible set of visuals from the BBC, 1930'S New York reproduced so brilliantly on a TV budget is just breath taking. Spread over two episodes this story suffers from the same problems as last years Rise of the Cybermen/The Age of Steel two parter and seems slowly paced. This story also feels closer to traditional Doctor Who than most of the new episodes and is certainly the most Daleky Dalek story the new team have attempted. However it does make you ask why another Dalek story again so soon, you only have to go back five episodes to find them. For long term fans the Daleks plan seems a bit daft, a humanised Dalek? Didn't they try that before in Evil of the Daleks? That led to civil war, surley not a good way to repopulate one's speciecs. And as Sec's double cross by the others seemed to have been planned before his transfomation are we to assume that it was all a rose by Caan to become Dalek leader all along. As for the ending with the new Dalek people being part Timelord because The Doctor got in the way, well lets be thankful that that lightning didn't hit any sparrows as well. A story with good bits (fun musical number and heart rending story of Lazlow) let down by being a bit slow and, dare I say, a bit samey from what's come before? 6/10

THE LAZARUS EXPERIMENT

Or getting to know the Jones's? There's plenty of Martha's family here for us to get better acquainted with as we so far know very little about them. So now Mum thinks the Doctor's the bad guy and Tish decides to follow him too. Tish's sudden discision to help the Doctor by chaseing after him makes me suspicious there is more to this caractor, especailly with the ammont of Mister Saxon referances in this episode. Guest actor Mark Gatiss is a very welcome addition to this story, playing the part of both young and old Lazarus with aplume. That brings me to the story. Apart from a few similarities with The Leisure Hive the biggest problem herre was there was so little of it. For the last 20 minutes it seemed to revolve aroung the Doctor and other charators running away from the monster. It also seems very remiss of The Doctor that after blowing Lazarus up once without him receiving a scratch that he never checks to make sure he's dead after blowing him up a second time. Not a great episode but that's proberly because it's main function was to cement The Doctor/Martha relationship and lay seeds for the future. 5/10

I really enjoyed watching Mark Gatiss. I normally have a mental block with just seeing him in characters from League of Gentleman. It's hard not to picture Mr Chinnery in there somehwere with the blonde wig but I think he played the character Lazarus very well.

I was a bit disappointed with the CGI monster though I have to say.

Yes I was going to say that Matt 'Here Comes the Sun' :D and definately the Mr Saxon bit....I can't wait. I did miss bits of the beginning as I was also watching bits of the Fratellis. So mush good TV on tonight provided by the BBC.
The story did remind me of Impossible Planet, but I think I'll have to watch it again however, it didn't grip me like some episodes have.

Stylistically we're back to The Impossible Planet of last year and jolly good it looks too. The 42 minutes of the title proves to be just a gimmick and the story would have functioned just as well without it, in fact it's hard to recocile certain moves the chactors make around the ship with the fact that we are supposed to be in real time. Still that's proberly a bit finickerty. After about 30 minutes The Doctor and Martha seem to have forfilled their part of the main plot as the ships crew are now able to repair the ship on their own so we get an extra little plot of The Doctor saving Martha then Martha returning the favour. However, it all adss up to an enjoyable if not classic episode and some extra Mr Saxon mystery to boot. 7/10

Now that was certainly very different. How is Martha going to save the day? Boy from Love Actually, haven't seen him in a while - how will they get that watch from him? Good to see Martha in costume, she has often worn her own clothes in most periods.

Finally I know what you`re all talking about. My girlfriend showed me some episodes of Doctor Who (in Austria there`s no Doctor Who on TV), and I love it. I still don`t understand many things about it, but I`m very curious to get into it.

It`s a shame that a tv-show that brilliant and weird is so unknown outside of Britain (at least in germany, austria...).

How Jonathan and his family love the show and that they think she has been great after 'the great' Billie/Rose. Presenting a Bafta at this years event. I can't remember everything else yet. It may be on Youtube?

HUMAN NATURE/THE FAMILY OF BLOOD

Great, wonderful, brilliant, fantastic, exellent, superb 10/10 end of review.

What more can I say about a remarkable peice of television such as this? David Tennent makes us believe that John Smith is a real man who we have great simpathy for. The rest of the cast are univerally excellent with a wonderful turn by Jessica Hynes as the love bereft Joan leading the pack. We are shown that the Doctor's world can be cruel as we are see that if the Doctor hadn't made certain choices then many deaths would have been prevented. I remember that Paul Cornell stories were often critersised for carrying on past the dramatic climax as charactors pop round to see each other for a cup of tea and to fill in blanks in the plot. This was something Cornell avoided in his first TV script, Father's Day but here it is in spades. But this is in no way a critasism, after the Doctor has won the day we are given an ending where he meets out deliciously gruesome punishments on the bad guys followed by another ending where the Doctor confronts Joan and another with him thanking Martha. Still futher the charactor of Tim is given a teriffic ending to his own story. Another thing that did appear in Father's Day was the Doctor considering how, after all the wonderful things he'd seen, could never experience a normal life. Here in a flash forward, he does! I think I could go on for ever about this one, surely the 10th Doctors finset moment. Most definatly 10/10.

If you're reading this reveiw whatever you don't lookaway and don't blink. Steven Moffat prooves yet again that he is more aware of what you can do with the format of Doctor Who than any other current writer. Also, as with The Girl In The Fire Place he shows an abillity to came two episodes worth of plot into one. This is the second in what looks like becomeing an annual story to feture the regulars only breifly. Unlike Love & Monsters which was a story all about finding The Doctor, this is very definatly Sally Sparrow's story with The Doctor a chacator who crosses paths with her. The Doctor's small parts fit in around this story with Martha barely in it at all but Mottat is to clever to give us time to miss them. I can honestly say no story has effected me as much as this whilst watching it for years. I realised that near the end I was watching the telly sitting bolt upright ttying not to blink, fantastic! Moffat also finishes with an uplifting ending a la The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances although the very end where we are reminded to be scared, just in case there are any kids left who won't be running from statues in future, seems a little bit like hammering it home. On the whole lets praise the Lord that Steven Moffat will be writing two more episodes next year 10/10.

Wow he's going to be it too. Does that mean Dame Judi Dench will be too? They often star in films and tv shows together.

MY THEORY ABOUT THE MASTER BY MARK BAKER AGED 34

The Master has before been seen to be captured but it turns out to be a decoy in disguise or something. The Master has also in the past taken over other peoples bodies. So at the end of The Last Of The Timelords I suggest that the Master's contiouness had entered his wife, that's why she shot 'the evidence' and then claimed he had won. Not because he had died but because he had found away to escape The Doctor. So the hard at the end is the body of Lucy now possesed by The Master. Just a theory mind.

Sounds like a great theory Mark, I only hope there is still a chance that we can see John Simm in the series.

I doubt it'll be John Simm if The Master returns.

Wow, I haven't been here in a while, busybusy etc! So yes, Christmas episode filming is all underway!
And apparently that James Nesbitt rumour had been debunked by Mr Moffatt himself.
I rewatched Blink the other day, what a great episode!

PS. Yes, the Master just has to be back at some point!

PPS. And now I realise why I haven't been in this thread for a while, we've been moved!!

Yes, Andy never liked this thread so he's found a way to hide it away.

Will he be a heroic character like Ghandi? Or a baddie like he has played in a recent British film?

This reminds me of back in the 80s when they had Dr Who on hiatus between Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy.

I was laying in bed and caught the last part of "The Doctor Dances." It was on WQLN from Erie, PA (don't have cable in my bedroom), and can I say I'm totally freaked out now. I hope I don't have nightmares of those gas masked creatures going, "Mummy, Mummy, Are you my Mummy?" :o

I was surfing YouTube yesterday and found this...um...interesting item. Has anyone heard of doctor Who: Lust in Space? It stars Mark "Turlough" Strickson as a prosecutor going after Doctor Who for being sexist. It's very campy. there are seven parts, but I just have the first part. It was made in 1998. It also stars Katy Manning and Sopie Aldred.

Doctor Who: Lust in Space Part 1

It's hysterical. I love the Russian tank girls from the 21st century. :giggle:

Was this part of a Comic Relif thing, or was this something Mark Strickson came up with? :hmm:
