Evening all, I quite enjoyed watching Recovery last night. What did you think of it Mark (and Matt if you watched it)?

I didn't see all of it, but what I did see was very good. Funny to see Sarah Parish in non-arachnid mode! :D

All the rumours about the Master are very exciting indeed, and I hadn't heard the one about Derek Jacobi. I know his character is called 'The Professor'.

And despite what the new issue of DWM states multiple times, I believe the start date for series 3 is 31st March (not 24th!)

Getting exciting now! :D

Hehe, I know! I'm off to a Doctor Who convention in London on the 17th of March. I said to a friend that I'll be in London then, and they said 'Oh, is that when you're seeing The Who?' and I said 'well close, it does involve 'Who'!'.

Who overload. Perhaps I should play a game of 'Guess Who' aswell! Anyone remember that board game? :D

Don't worry Mark, when I was on Amazon.co.uk there was an advert for Catherine Tate's Comic Relief DVD. All proceeds going to Comic Relief. The Tony Blair sketch is also very funny. I don't really laugh at Catherine's sketches but I did enjoy these ones. I will probably get the Peter Kay one too.

I did get to meet all 3 of them yes, first time I've ever met Colin Baker so that was good. I've now seen every living Doctor in the flesh, except Chris Eccleston!

'Smith and Jones' is the title of the first episode of series 3!
Rather than Mel Smith and Griff Rhys-Jones! :D
Easy mistake to make!

On the subject though, I think they did reform recently for a sketchbook type TV series.

Proberley the best season opener of NuWho so far and felt like an improvement over the slightly disapointing The Runaway Bride. We already love you Martha and I hope that's not the last to be seen of the Judoon. Did I miss something with the tie because The Doctor gave it to Martha at the start of the episode so I'm not sure how him disappearing and taking it off proves he can travel in time. What I didn't miss was the metion of Mr Saxon on the radio near the end. Watch out for more of this as it looks like being this years Bad Wolf or Torchwood. Roy Marsden seemed a little wasted and I remain to be convinced by Martha's family. Overal rating 7/10.

I think the Doctor says to Martha 'I'll prove to you I can travel in time' or whatever, then goes back to earlier in the day and holds up his tie infront of Martha and says 'like this', then he returns back to Martha in the present and puts his tie back on. Must admit, I don't quite get it either!

Yeh, great episode though. Definitely seems that we have to listen out for Saxon - the poster behind Martha in the allyway scene at the end says 'Vote Saxon'. I think this name first cropped up on a newspaper in Love & Monsters actually.

Looking forward to the rest of the series now!

THE SHAKESPEARE CODE

The best episode since The Girl in the Fireplace last year. 1599 London looks unbeilevably impressive. It's about time Gareth Roberts wrote Who and straight away he's up there with Robert Holmes and Steven Moffat. Some wonderful jokes in there although The Doctor continuasly give Shakespeare his own ideas come close to being overplayed. Nice way The Doctor and Martha relationship is developing, lying on the bed together with The Doctor telling her how good it'd be to have Rose with him. Overall, hard to fault this episode, though I wonder if Queen Elizabeth at the end was just a gag or will be followed up at some point. 10 out 0f 10.

The BBC Press Office have issued the following press release for Daleks In Manhattan:
It's Thirties New York and, in the midst of the Depression, people are disappearing off the streets, as Russell T Davies's Doctor Who continues. Savage Pig Men hide in the sewers and, at the very top of the Empire State Building, the Doctor's oldest enemies are at work, preparing their most audacious plan yet.

David Tennant stars as the Doctor and Freema Agyeman plays his new companion, Martha Jones. Miranda Raison and Ryan Carnes guest star.

This episode is scheduled to start at the earlier time of 18:50 on Saturday 21st April.

Matt will you be in this time or out again? :D

Remember, listen out for any references to 'Saxon' in upcoming episodes of Doctor Who - allegedly the name of the character that John Simm is playing.

They'd better not dare delay it! If those blokes want to kick their ball around longer than booked that's their problem. Last years episode Doomsday was originally going to go into extra time but there was never any question of annoying other programs.

David in an 80s show?
Are they referring to the Life On Mars spin off?

Ooh perhaps.
Remember, listen out for any references to 'Saxon' in upcoming episodes of Doctor Who - allegedly the name of the character that John Simm is playing.
All very mysterious!

I reakon only in present day episodes so not till episode six.

Ah that would probably make sense, yeah.

So what's lurking at the bottom of New Earth? If it's what I hear it is, then it should be pretty cool :D We shall find out tonight (footie dependant of course  )

I was fearing this episode would be very similar to the first one in the last series, but fear not I really liked it. There were connections obviously but different things too. Martha is showing that she means business too as a companion.

Tuneing in at 19.00 I was looking forward to another rip roaring adventure in time an space with my police box dwelling hero. What followed could at best be called 'unusual'. The plot seemed to revolve around a group of over 20 people seemingly trapped on a feild whilst a larger crowd of people looked on for their entertainmant. Was this a link to the Gods of Ragnarok last seen in the season 25 adventure 'The Greatest Show In The Galaxy'? Each ond of the feild appeared to be a netted porthole each protected by a Green Guardian, surely a link to the Black and White Guardians as last seen in the season 20 story 'Enlightenment'. Just like last years' Love & Monsters' this was a story which featured The Doctor very little and like that story had some scenes with a narration from a caractor that later appeared in the story, this time played by the actor that eats all those Walkers crisps. Near the end of the episode the story suddenly seemed to change tone finishing with a very unsatisfactory conclusion of The Doctor and Martha arriving on New Earth. All in all a bizarre episode that relied to much on the ball kick anticts of the underdevolped caracters seen in the opening scenes. 2/10.

Whoohoo, I heard that the PBS station here might be getting Dr Who soon. I hope this is true. :D I know WQLN from Erie, PA has it, because I saw it when I got it for a short time.

Ah Mark, took me quite a while to work out what you were on about there! :D Very good!
(Remember everyone, what time did Doctor Who start last week? ;))

By the way, if you don't want to have an aspect of next weeks episode spoiled, then I'd advise not looking at the latest Radio Times cover! :o

(Genuine)

So we're back on New Earth and here's the Face of Boe, then for the next twenty minutes nothing much seemed to happen whilst several charaters sat in a traffic jam and 'info dumped' at each other. Whatever you think about an RTD script, usually the information set up is filtered into the dialoge quite cleverly however in this episode people seem to sit around for the first half and tell us everything about the last 30 years of their lives. The script looks like it's supposed to be a comment on the current state of our roads however it starts to the like it's a comment on it's self. Going nowhere. Thank heavens for Ardel O'Hanlon. However, from the moment The Doctor sonics the bottom of Brannigans pod, suddenly we're in Doctor Who heaven. A clever chase sequence is followed by a treat for us old fans, the return of The Macra! (The return of the Daleks and Cybermen got Radio Times covers so why not them?). This is followed by a magnificent twist in the story and topped off with a tripple emotional ending. First, at least for a soppy old git like me, the redemption of Novice Hame 'We had no choice' 'Yes you did'. Then the sacrafice and death of The Face of Boe and lastly The Doctor facing his own demons and opening up to Martha about his home planet. If I' only caught the first half of this one I'd be thinking 4/10 as it is the second half bumps it up to 8/10.

Daleks 'Doctor's scariest enemies'

Press Assoc. - Friday, April 20, 2007

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/pressass/20070420...es-5f8abb3.html

The Daleks have exterminated their rivals as Doctor Who's scariest villains despite the creation of new hi-tech enemies, according to a new survey.

The Daleks, which were almost left out of the BBC's modern Doctor Who, have seen off threats by new monsters such as the Beast and the Empty Child Zombies.

A poll of 21,000 Doctor Who fans was commissioned to mark the Daleks' debut appearance in the third series of the revived BBC show on Saturday night.

Nick Briggs, the voice behind the Daleks, said: "I've been fortunate enough to provide the voices for a wide variety of Doctor Who villains over the years, but the Daleks seem to have stood the test of time as the scariest and most iconic space terrors that the Doctor has ever encountered."

Doctor Who senior script writer Russell T Davies said: "Every time the Daleks return we make them bigger and better than ever before, and this time, their plan is the most audacious Dalek scheme yet."

He warned: "Even the Doctor finds himself out of his depth."

The Daleks feature in a special two-part story, featuring David Tennant and new companion Freema Agyeman, set in 1930s New York.

Doctor Who fans were horrified when the Daleks were originally ruled out of the comeback show after the BBC and creator Terry Nation's representatives failed to agree a deal - but they were eventually reinstated.

Maybe this is why David isn't leaving just yet:
Return of the Kyber Woman

Its a bit like Torchwoord. Yet I thought Cybermen weren't supposed to show feelings, facial expressions etc and all have the same outer shell.

I watched Doctor Who yesterday! ^_^

That Dalek/Human thing. My suggestion would be - just hit it over the head. It hasn't got it's ray gun, sink plunger or it's hard shell.

It may look horrible, but I'm sure it could be taken out easily. :P
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

I bought the sticker album today as I thought the Radio Times one would take ages to arrive! I'm hoping number 115 is Elton Hope!

I already have some spares:
42, 53, 137, 143, 191 & 223.

Rather cool episode (loved the use of Rhapsody In Blue in the soundtrack B) ), but I was very tired when I watched it last night so I'll have to give it another watch I think.

Ah yes, got my free packet of stickers with the RT. I'm must try to resist collecting another album full of stickers, but I think I probably will end up doing so anyway! :D

The news about Kylie is interesting, if true! This could all just be coming from the fact that a guy who works on her tours etc. is a big Doctor Who fan I think.

I watched it for a second time tonight (whilst sticking in more stickers that I bought just before  ) because I wasn't too sure about this one. I did like it, and was nice to put some modern history to it. So as far as that goes I thought it was very good. However, it took me a while to get into it. Lets see what happens next week.

BTW I have loads of spares, so Matt fancy doing some swapping at Wembley? :D

Ah yes of course! Speaking of the 'classic series' continuity, the Daleks here said that the Time War destroyed Skaro, but didn't that happen in Remembrance Of The Daleks? Maybe that was the start of the time war? <_<

Mark, I think I have front row tickets to see John Simm (Life On Mars) perform in in play at Hammersmith 'Elling.' I need to see the last 2 episodes of series 1 as I gave the DVD set to my Dad.

Well Skaro has always been a continuity nightmare as it was seen in the 1996 TV Movie after it was destroryed. The offical unoffical fan theory is that the one destroyed was new Skaro as Skaro had been abandoned by the Daleks by the time of Destiny of the Daleks and if it where New Skaro that means the Doctor didn't wipe out the Thals.
