Well last year they bought back the daleks and got a second radiotimes cover, this year they bought back the cybermen and got a second second cover so I predict a midseason return for the nimon next year to garentee another radiotimes special. |

And hopefully a sticker album dedicated only to the Nimon. If not, the Radio Times will be receiving a stern letter.
I bought some stickers today, I feel like I'm 12 again! |

Well The Girl In The Fire Place must be the best of season so far. Steven Moffat is proving to be the best of the new writers. |

Definitely, and if/when Russell T Davies should leave then I think it would be good if Steven takes his place as head writer and exec producer. I saw a clip from Rise Of The Cybermen today on Totally Doctor Who - it looks great. I'm hoping that Roger Lloyd-Pack's character will keep calling the Doctor "Dave", Only Fools and Horses style

New role for Doctor Who who became prisoner of own success By Adam Sherwin, The Times Media Correspondent May 04, 2006 http://www.timesonline.co.uk/articl...2164214,00.html HE REVIVED Doctor Who, but now Christopher Eccleston is set to take on another television hero with the starring role in a remake of The Prisoner. The 1967 series, starring Patrick McGoohan as a former secret agent who was kidnapped and imprisoned in a mystery village, baffled millions of viewers around the world . The new version, made by Granada for Sky One, will incorporate the paranoia, conspiracy theories and hi-tech action sequences of modern-day spy dramas 24 and Spooks. Lost, another offbeat hit series which has kept viewers hooked despite offering up few of its secrets, was influenced by The Prisoner. Eccleston, who quit Doctor Who after last year’s hit revival, told the producers that it had long been his ambition to play Number Six, whose escape attempts are constantly thwarted by sinister forces. Hollywood stars have also pitched for the role but discussions with Eccleston are at an advanced stage, according to production sources. However, the Welsh tourist “village” of Portmeirion, where the original ATV show was filmed, will be replaced by a more exotic foreign location, probably outraging fans of the original. While The Prisoner will compete against the third season of Doctor Who in a spring ratings battle next year, BBC One is reviving another action hero — Robin Hood will join the Saturday night line-up this autumn. Damien Timmer, executive producer of The Prisoner, said: “The series is like Pandora’s box; it’s the ultimate conspiracy thriller. Like 24, the new series will entrap you from the opening scene.” Granada hopes the series will tap into the show’s cult following, while also appealing to younger viewers. It is expected to appear before a long-mooted Hollywood film remake, and Granada is expecting to sell the show internationally. McGoohan won a global fan base for the 17-episode series, which made regular use of his catchphrase: “I am not a number; I’m a free man.” His nameless character — Number Six — was abducted after resigning from a top secret government position and relocated to a sinister village where nothing was as it seemed. However, Granada is promising a “radical reinvention” and a plot that will make sense to viewers who watch the six-episode series. McGoohan wrote and directed some episodes. Other actors and actresses who featured in the original series included Leo McKern, Paul Eddington, Peter Bowles, Eric Portman, Patrick Cargill, George Baker, Mary Morris, Rosalie Crutchley and Donald Sinden. It has its own fan club, the Six of One, formed in 1977. It boasts more than 1,000 members and holds regular get-togethers at Portmeirion, the Italianate village in North Wales built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis 80 years ago. It is now a hotel complex. As well as the distinctive architecture, The Prisoner featured Mini-Mokes, pennyfarthings and a massive balloons that would appear from the sea to smother anyone attempting to escape. The series was shown in more than 60 countries. |

Last week I met the guy who does the Cybermen voices in a pub in London. We asked him to do the Cybermen voices for us and he said he can't remember how he did them! I'm rather looking forward to tonight's episode! Apparently it's the longest episode so far, as it clocks in at about 46 minutes, so that can't be bad

No unfortunately I didn't. My video player didnt record it.
I got back just in time to see the repeat on BBC Three on Sunday. Hopefully they will show that in the summer - like they did with the last series.BTW I think there was a problem because I have a freeview box and DVD player feeding into my video player, and I had to change the leads as I had watched a Kaiser DVD. So I had seen some Kaiser stuff that week. Irrelevant but I thought woth mentioning.

I still can't get over how brill the Cybermen were! Graeme Harper's direction was fabulous too, and I loved the little references to previous Cybermen stories ("International Electromatics" and "You will be like us"). Next week's is gonna rock! (They played "I predict a riot" in Confidential, when talking about the scene where all the French doors get smashed in! :D) |

Yeah I saw that bit I went back after I posted here as I was so excited about the episode I just wanted to share my enthusiasm. Unfortunately I had to type my message twice as it deleted so the excitement may not be that clear!

Cool. Have you got an mp3 of the theme tune? I dont download and anything from my cds is protected that I want for this thing I have been putting together, so I thought the theme tune may work. If you paid for it don't worry. |

Hi ! Brian Matthew played the original theme tune of Doctor Who in last weeks edition of "Sounds Of The Sixties" on BBC Radio 2 right before th 9 o'clock news ! Does anyone of you watch Jane Asher tonight on BBC FOUR in "A is for Andromedar" ? regards, Oliver.

Hi Oliver! I love the original theme, it's just so unusual for its time I've been meaning to catch A for Andromeda, but haven't managed to. I don't think I've ever seen anything with Jane Asher in before (except the McVities adverts of course!).
I've sent you a PM

You'll have to go a long long way to find a better biscuit!
I also saw a tiny bit of that ITV1 soap she was in at about 5ish only because she was in it but I never saw it again. I also think the show was axed - pity for her - but she has been in much better stuff off course.

Jane also once made a film called "Deep End" in 1970, which was british-german co-production. Has anyone of you ever seen this film ? By the way, there's a documentary on Russel T. Davis, writer of tonights episode of Doctor Who on BBC FOUR at the moment. |

So how does the misterious John Lumic know how to recreate the cybermen? If there are parallel versions of everyone else where's the parallel Doctor? And could these two questions be linked? |
| |
![]() |
|
| matts | May 14 2006, 11:38 AM Post #77 |

I think that this is the story of the Genesis of the Cybermen, but an alternate beginning, which is different to that seen in 'The Tenth Planet' so in the parallel universe the CYbermen were created by Lumic. Maybe in the parallel universe the Doctor isn't hanging around Earth because he never met Rose. |

Does anyone know why Rose wasn't in the parallel unverse? Jackie clearly liked the name Rose because that Yorkshire was called Rose.
Maybe its the same reason as the Doctor's.

According to Pete, Jackie didn't want to have kids because she didn't want to "ruin her figure". It seems that all that money has made the Tylers rather vain

Yeah I remember him saying that. I just found it funny 'Rose' was still thought off as she was a dog. So its not completely parallel I guess.

I think Mr Finch was probably more sinister. John Lumic is more in the vein of insane meglomaniac villains! |
