That's too bad ... being an only child can be a drag, labor must have been a brutal for you to feel that way though.  If that's the case then it's understandable I suppose.

I'm sure he won't go short of friends at school though and he has LOADS of cousins so just because he doesn't have a sibling doesn't mean he won't be happy. My experience of birth was a very horrible, frightening, traumatic one so I definitely won't be going through it again and it must have been very bad for me to be put off the idea for life

Oh Please Nat. You act as if you are the only person who has ever had a bad birth experience. Geez

Wifey almost died with our third one. The docs sterilized her (with our consent, of course) because her OB/GYN said she had nil chances of surviving a fourth. And I had already been cut!

It was pretty scary for a while during her third pregnancy(fourth, actually, as her first pregnancy ended in miscarriage). She had an enlarged heart, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia (sp), and toxemia. The entire last third of her pregnancy was spent in bed.

She's still dealing with the heart issues six years later, which is why she can't exercise yet, except for walking. And she has serious SI joint pain that's left over from Analise. It's now arthritic.

Wow Chad, your wifes story of the birth of your third is eerily similar to mine.
You say you want to save humanity but it`s people that you just can`t stand
John came to me in a dream and this is what he said. "I had a vision of a man on a flaming pie, and he told me that Betsy with a B not Lisa with a L is the biggest fan of mine". John trumps 'the boss' !

Nat, you're not the one who needs to apologise.

Tassy, you're a nurse and i am shocked by your lack of empathy.

It's HER choice and if she had a bad experience and doesn't want more children, it's up to her and her husband to decide. Nobody else has any right to judge.

Nat.. sweetie.. dahling.. just because you had one traumatic birth, doesn't mean your going to have another with your next child.

When my mother had Byron.. he was a breeze
When she had Loren, mild complications.. but yet a breeze
However, when she had me, I was a real b*tch, I had to come out C-Section
Cuz I didnt want to come out head first.. I wanted my toes out! And all I can say about that is it was getting cramped in that there womb.. hehe

So..dont make your decisions based on the traumtic birth of your son,
the next one may be a breeze!

I never asked for an apology, nor did I expect one. I'm not judging anyone. I couldn't care less if she has any more children. I just wanted her to know that she's not the only woman who has had a bad birth experience.

And my "lack of empathy" as you call it is probably BECAUSE I am a nurse. You have no idea what I have seen in my years as a nurse. Things you all couldn't imagine. It takes something more than an emergency C Section to rattle me.

I think.. what Tassy was saying, that Nat isn't the only who has had a traumtic birth experience. That alot of woman have had them, and alot of them will continue to have them, its just apart of nature. Correct me if I am wrong of course. But not all birth's are perfect, not all of them are pain free.

Infact, my mother and I almost died as well, because I was breeched.
I wanted to come out feet first, and they put me back in, which was painful for mom, but then i was born C-Section and with the chord around my neck!

So.. yeh I think thats what tassy was saying, she meant no harm

- Edit: TASSY beat me to it  -

Nat has told me to tell you all she won't be returning. She has been made to feel unwelcome and unwanted by certain people around here and she has been scared to say certain things because of the reaction she believes she will get from those people.

I'd like to remind everyone that the reputation of this board so far has been of kindness and respect and for a while I was convinced that it was inevitable that this place would turn into a cynical madhouse like that other place... please don't prove me right. If you disagree with another member I think we are all capable of speaking our minds in a mature way and if not, we should all know when to bite our tongue.

When a small group of people continuously make snide comments towards one member, despite warnings (this has gone on in several threads, as I am sure you are all aware, and I will be posting this message where I think it applies) there is no other word to describe it other than bullying.

We're not all going to adore each other but we need to learn to co-exist peacefully or action will have to be taken against those perpetuating the problem. Please take pride in being the bigger person and keeping a cool temper because losing members due to the negative spirit of the board is the last thing we want. I think many people have had their say and been heard loud and clear so please let this be an end to it.

Thanks.

Well I was trying to figure out where this original post of mine was located because I was hoping to respond to the matter a little more directly than this and get a sense of what happened out here.

I truly can sympathize with your situation Nat, one of my siblings had such an extreme labor that she opted to not have any more children ... she's really afraid of needles so that end of things didn't help matters at all. This was back in December of 1977 ... my first nephew was the end result, a real sweetheart he is. I can't quite recall but my thoughts are that she was in labor for 20 something hours ... although that might be a little off, I'll have to check with her on it for more specifics. I believe at one point they were thinking that one of them wouldn't survive the labor (her or my nephew) ... thankfully they both came out of it alright. I was only 8 years old at the time, but I remember the drama of the overall situation being rather extreme and no one wanted to really clue me into it. I was pretty clever though (if I do say so myself) and realized that it was a heavy situation.

The marriage didn't work out and she ended up eventually marrying someone with a child of his own, so the nephew got to have a brother through his high school years and beyond (i.e. this marriage is still intact).

If it's any help, I can appreciate what you're saying with that sentiment and I'm glad to know that he's got some cousins to rouse around with when he gets to that stage. ;) Especially given the fact that it's a recent memory ... sometimes people don't factor that into things and time can create a callus if one isn't too careful about cherishing the memory's (good and bad). We're not all operating on the same clock ... just because someone else might have gone through something similar in the past doesn't necessarily equate to anything when it's such the recent memory.

Just thought I'd offer some input on that one ... hope it doesn't create any unnecessarily weird waves or turbulence within the thread.

See what I mean ... it's almost bedtime for me and you're eating pastry's?

Well I meant that in a different sense of course (that thing about not being on the same clock) but I have a notion that the timezones are just proof positive that in a metaphysical sense the world is most definitely not flat or easily unravelable. Whether we're talking geography, emotional causalities, physics or the cosmic turn of a phrase ... it's a little fluid and quite dynamic overall.

The reason it's called the withdrawal method is because you have to withdraw all of your life savings from the bank when all of the children arrive.  ^_^

Yeah Andy, after I had Hannah my OBGYN wanted me to go on the pill but I told him that we'd go back to using the "jerk and squirt" method.

After a bit of a chuckle, he said, "Okay then, see you in a few months for your first prenatal visit with child #3"

 Well, it's famously unreliable, but if it's working for you then that's the main thing! ^_^ ;)

Geez, what a nice direction this board has suddenly went.

As well as agreeing with Fiona's wonderful post wholeheartedly, I just wanted to say that I'd be very sad if Nat didn't return here because of those reasons. We're talking about someone who has recently become a mum for the first time, has shared all of her experiences, heartache, pain and joy with people she believed were interested & who she considered friends. She's also going through problems with her husband and, to all intents and purposes, is having a bit of a rough time of it.

This is someone who, given everything she has been coping with recently, our community should be supporting. To echo what Fiona said, if you don't want to voice your support then simply bite your tongue rather than saying something you know will upset someone who isn't having the best of times in life and may also be quite fragile. I'm not taking sides, just looking at the bigger picture and unfortunately know how small comments can sometimes have big consequences - I'm sure that most people like to enjoy clear consciences.
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Not only that ... but they've got some of the most decadent variations of pancakes I've ever come across. Only been there a couple of times myself, the one that I was near in California was always packed with people during the breakfast part of the day.

Chocolate Chip pancakes, and other such things are rather common on that menu comparatively speaking. ;) They've got a bounty of syrups at the table too if my recall is correct. Suddenly realizing that I haven't had pancakes in a couple of months ... hey prior to that it'd been years.

My friend just left.. after she helped clean my apartment.. :) which was aweful nice of her :)

I love starting the week off with a clean apartment.. :)

We had breakfast and then went to "the Bodies" exhibit... which was very very very cool. Check it out.. :)

http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com/intro.html

To help you see what a body really looks like on the inside, this Exhibition uses real human bodies that have been preserved so they do not decay.

A human specimen is first preserved according to standard mortuary science. The specimen is then dissected to show whatever it is that someone wants to display. Once dissected, the specimen is immersed in acetone, which eliminates all body water. The specimen is then placed in a large bath of silicone, or polymer,
and sealed in a vacuum chamber. Under vacuum, acetone leaves the body in the form of gas and the polymer replaces it, entering each cell and body tissue.
A catalyst is then applied to the specimen, hardening it and completing the process.

This method of preservation creates a specimen that will not decay. This offers thousands of unique teaching possibilities for educators at all levels, including
medical professionals, archeologists and other scientists.

Okay ... that just totally grossed me out. I'm pretty sure I won't have pancakes for quite some time now. Yikes!

As a side note ... in high school I walked out on my biology course altogether as I was convinced that they were secretly trying to snuff us all out with the formaldehyde that was being used with the frogs. Started a minor uproar I did ... I was like "no way!" The following year I found the biology class out amongst the football bleachers rather than having to do that stuff inside with the poor ventilation system.

Sometimes minor rebellions can work out  , never did go back to that class ... much prefer chemistry to dissecting things like that. Pretty sure the atoms like the attention, but I might be partial to 'em or something.

When a frog gets mad in biology class, he can't leave. But be careful in chemistry, because an atom can always split!! Get it?

Nat has told me to tell you all she won't be returning.  She has been made to feel unwelcome and unwanted by certain people around here and she has been scared to say certain things because of the reaction she believes she will get from those people.

Wonderful post, Andy. This is why you're one of my best friends. x

I have to wade in here and say that I am absolutely appalled at some of our members attitudes towards other members. You all know what I'm talking about.

Natalie has been accused of behaviour that these members have been getting away with for months. It's just not on. There is not one set of rules for one group, and a different set for others. That's called double standards.

And Tassy, I'm sorry to have to single you out, but I really think your last comment to Nat was quite nasty. Sure, you're a nurse, and you've seen hundreds of traumatic births and various other gory things. Aren't nurses supposed to also have empathy and sympathy? I would have thought they were pre-requisites for the position. Natalie has never done this before, remember that. This is a new experience for her, and I'm quite sure that with a new baby and problems with her marriage that she does feel like the only one to have gone through this.

A little bit of support and consideration. That's all I'm asking.
I don't believe in Bondi. I don't believe in rugby league. I believe in Yoko, John Lennon, the Lost Weekend and me.

Some people just need a place to vent. Even if they are going through the same thing everyone else has. I've done that before. I KNOW I'm goin through the same sh*t others have before. But it still feels good to have people that I perceive as friends to be there to hear me out. It can get a LOT off of your chest. I guess some people here are just lucky enough to have never needed to talk something off of their chest among friends. And I hope they never do. But that's no reason to look down on us when we do it.

not at all Tassy... :) I still love you.

I myself am guilty of this... but people who want drama, or feed off of drama will create the drama. But everyone has the power to react.. they can choose to take a comment for its dollar value, they can just blow it off, or they can say something back, make the comment their own.

Life is WAY too short to live your life in nothing but DRAMA!

I didn't mean to help make Tassy feel like a b*tch. I'm just sayin I know what it's like to need to get stuff off my chest, yes, even all the time. And I know what it's like to be jumped for it. Everyone's there at some point in their life.

You say you want to save humanity but it`s people that you just can`t stand
John came to me in a dream and this is what he said. "I had a vision of a man on a flaming pie, and he told me that Betsy with a B not Lisa with a L is the biggest fan of mine". John trumps 'the boss' !
