I am not trying to show off or be holier than thou, although you guys know that; just a bit senstive and sick of being judged which is why I like it here...ANYWAY:

Magazines, papers, paper in general and card: I have it recycled.
Glass and plastic bottles and tin cans: I have it recycled.
Clothes and books: I sell on eBay/Amazon or donate to Oxfam.

I don't have a car. I don't smoke. I don't use CFCs, not even my inhalers any more.

When I get my own place and even if I only have window boxes, I plan to use vegetable peelings to make compost.

I buy organic food as and when I can afford it. I am as vegan as I possibly can be.

That's a great contribution you're making, Lauren. None of us are perfect - I know that, as a vegetarian, I've been criticised by vegans for supporting the dairy industry and I've felt bad about it for a split-second until I realised that I'm making a difference and that's what it's all about - doing what you can.

If you recycle some of your rubbish, then it's better than recycling none. If you give to charity instead of throwing old clothes/books/CDs away, then you're making a difference to peoples' lives.

If more people were 'cosmically conscious' ( ;) ) then this world would be a better place. Luckily, I believe awareness of environmental issues is growing steadily. :)

I like to think of myself as a bit of hippie (although not so far as only washing once a week! ;) )

I have a worm farm and my own veggie garden. I use the worm castings on my vegetables and other plants, so my garden is totally organic.

I recycle EVERYTHING and donate unwanted items to the Salvation Army.

I admit I am an ovo-vegetarian, but I get my eggs directly from a farm, so I know they are barn laid by free range chickens.
I don't believe in Bondi. I don't believe in rugby league. I believe in Yoko, John Lennon, the Lost Weekend and me.

We do whatever we can to HELP SAVE the WORLD. My husband was sooooo bad when i met him. If he heard a clink in the trash, he would dig it out till he found the bottle. he taught us all to save the world for our grandkids ~~your children.

We give away clothes and household items we no longer need to those who do need them.
We usually have a Garage Sale with people we know who could use whatever we're getting rid of. We invite them to the house and they take whatever they feel they can use and charge nothing. My kids also help contribute to the cause. Even my 4 year old granddaughter will be playing with a toy and when she's finished, says, "I don't need this toy any more, give it to the needy children."
It's a nice way to get rid of baby clothes and other baby items, slightly used maternity clothes, nicknakes, furniture and even a car once we raffled off once (nothing expensive).

I'm *hoping* I get my tumbler for Mother's Day that I've been asking for the last few years. I would like to have one on my deck and go out there once a day and rotate my soil. Then I can use it to refill my flower pots maybe twice a year. We use to have a huge compost bins at our other house but no longer live there. Maybe if my husband's life slows down, we can make another one, then collect the neighbors scraps to add to the bins.

We recycle all newspaper, glass, bottles,, tin, etc.

We use organic cleaning supplies and have at least 1 organic blanket on the bed.

And we purchase organic vegetables, meats, and eggs as possible. I would love to have my own hens to raise. Our neighbors have a bunch and their selling their home. Maybe they would be willing to sell them.

Got to go and call the neighbors!

Judy

I am afraid I am doing the least I can. But I try. It's hard to care for the environment in a country that doesn't have any resources and where most people think it's a joke to care.
I never litter.
I try to recycle. We got recycle bins in the centre of the city just recently. If you want to recycle you have to take all your trash to the centre. But it's alright for a start. Hopefully there will be more around town soon. For now, I am collecting paper and plastic bottles here at home and I take them to the bins whenever I have enough.
I donate clothes I don't wear. I have many children's books, both in english and in greek, which I will give away if I find an organisation that takes them. My country is really behind in these issues, unfortunately.
We buy organic food whenever we can.

Wow, Judy - I'm really impressed! You're doing much more than most and setting a fine example to your friends and neighbours. ^_^

I wish we could do more, but we don't have the space in our flat to segregate all of our trash - we barely have room for one trash bag in the kitchen! That's part of the perils of living in expensive, cramped South London! :)

We have recycling bins here, but I have seen the trash hauler dumping them with the regular trash, so even though I haul all my stuff to the bins, I don't think they are being recycled.

I am a vegetarian, although I eat dairy and always will.

I am an old hippie, and, Clare, I always did bathe. ;) I do limit the amount of time I spend in the shower. I have found that with today's washing detergents, I can wash with cold water.

I belong to a Yahoo group called Free Cycle and we unwanted things away to each other. Somebody's trash is somebody else's treasure. I have some things now to give away. If nobody takes them, I donate them if I think they won't sell on eBay.

I try hard to be friendly to the environment.

If you have something you are going to throw away try giving it away on http://www.craigslist.org/

They have a link to post things for free and have many cities from around the world.

;) Ahhhh my kind of people! Did you know about Freecycle on Yahoo! It is a group where you list what you are giving away for free or you list what you need and all of it stays out of the landfills! I know there is one in London UK...I use three of them over here in Michigan. I would use Freecycle before Craigslist...(they have been in the press for allowing housing discrimination over here in the USA) Veggies rock! :)

My friends at uni endlessly mock me for my recycling habits. The environment is very important to me so recycling has just become part of my lifestyle now.
I pretty much recycle everything although its more difficult when I'm at home(but I am trying to encourage my family to recycle more)
I have ended up raiding the bin in our kitchen on numerous occasions because someone has put papers or cans in there.I have gradually got my friends into my level of thinking but I've had nothing but grieve from certain people. One said 'oh recycling is her thing at the moment' I kind of yelled at her and shes no spoken to me since.

I would buy organic foods if I could afford it but as a student its a case of finding the cheapest things possible
I have recently considered going veggie but at th moment its just not practical-I no that sounds a slight selfish response but its the only one i can give.
I'm a BIGGER Beatles fan than you and I'm an even BIGGER Wings fan than that...

We recycle, give unwanted items to the Salvation Army, & I try to use as many cruelty-free things as I can, which includes our dogs' food! :D

My building doesn't recycle, but I do what I can. I take the empty plastic bags I don't need back to the store or use them as garbage bags. I also take back my empty bottles and cans to the store (not just because of the $.05 deposit). I wish my freaking building did more though. :(

I put glass, cans & newspaper out for recycling. Unwanted stuff goes to the charity shop. My husband has an allotment and a greemhouse and we compost most of the rottable waste.

I don't have a car so I cycle and use public transport - haven't been out on the bike so much as I was knocked off a week ago and it's put me off a bit.

I think one of the best things we do is not to overbuy in the first place. I've reduced my consuming drastically over the last 10 years. I hate to shop except for food and I'm down to producing only 1 bag of garbage per week. I also buy organic and grow some of my own veggies. We recycle just about everything, but I think the key is to reduce and reuse as much as possible.

That's really great, Barb. One thing that dismays me is the amount of packaging for some fruits & veggies at the supermarket. It's fantastic to grow your own!

I get really crazy at all these individually packaged things. I buy big bags of the same stuff and that reduces waste a great deal. I have a lunch container for my kids that I pack their lunch in, it is reused every day and has been going strong for 4 years now. No waste. We have a recycle pail at our home and the garbage men pick up recycle once a week, that's really nice. I tried to have a garden but here in AZ it takes more skill than I have. I also, when I rememeber bring my own bags to the grocery store. I turn the shower off when I soap up and wash my hair, faucet off while I brush my teeth. Other stuff too but as it is such a habit now I can't think of what it is.
