Hi Bill ;)

I'm not going to start quoting stuff and answering stuff about Yoko. I'll just say that plenty of stuff has been dealt with about Yoko.
And besides, if the macca board gets accusing editing/deleting everything, it isn't possible that any thread is left to fly under the radar and escape  :D

Must have missed it. Apologies for my ignorance. :innocent:

With regards to Heather I do want to say I think it's only common sense that an official site that still has Heathers site linked to it officially, (for whatever reason it's up to the board owners what they link to) uses extreme caution. I don't even see it as being unreasonable to ask.

Not unreasonable at all. But perhaps somewhat unrealistic. It's human nature. I'm not defending some of the nasty things that were said about her there or here, and I understand that anything said at the site reflects on Paul, but people will talk.

The press, namely the Sun newspaper has been looking at the site for stuff to print. I read the article they did print ;)

I can understand that as Paul has expressed a wish for his private life to remain private, and having his fans on his official site ripping her apart would make a tasty snippet for newspapers such as the Sun to make a story out of.

Really? Was that mentioned there at the time? I don't usually frequent the gossip end of the forums there, but I'm sure if someone had said, "The Sun has been around looking for dirt so just cool it," I'm sure people would have understood. Or maybe I'm the one being unrelaistic now. It's a strange experience to be not cynical enough!

I see ... you mean it complimented his release of the 'Wingspan' compilation CD ... now I understand a little more. When did that board cease to exist? Was it something that he pulled following his involvement with Heather ... that would make sense wouldn't it. I mean if Heather was all insecure about him having a site dedicated to Linda, sad that this is what is occurring to me. Perhaps that's why some people do have such visceral opinions of Heather ... I mean aside from the more obvious things that she's allowed herself to be associated with. Unscrupulous behavior really.

See I don't know any of that sort of thing firsthand. I honestly am a little beguiled about some things, and I do feel badly for those that were affected by that site being shutdown if they felt that it was more or less a slap in the face of Linda and what she represented to them.

Icarus, what you said about the compilation and the creation of Wingspan board is only partially true. It pretty much took on a life of its' own when the tv show Wingspan premiered. The creation of the Wingspan board coincided withboth the compilation and the show. It was not created for Linda and not disbanded due to Heather but like Dotty said, it had to do with a very slow server. The handful of the original people that was on it, the server worked just fine but the more people that joined the slower it got. We had a lot of fun on that board. Paul did visit from time-to-time as he did when pm.com first started. He did answer questions and it was quite surprising and very cool to see his name down at the bottom of people who were on.

Audrey, not many of the people from the first board received any presale codes for the 2002 tour. I don't actually know of anyone that did. We were privy to the Night on the Town tickets, however, and the party that came with them. The prices were much higher but the seats were pretty good.

Thanks Bill :) I love that little angel smilie!! :innocent:
Yes, someone pointed it out on the message board at the time that there had been a mention in the Sun.
I do understand completely what you mean about people wanting to be able to talk ;)

And thanks to everyone who has talked with me on here B)

I do understand things a few things a lot better now so I'm now off to cremate my sunday dinner

Okay ... that's helpful to know, as I stated I wasn't quite sure what was going on in a few instances. Suppose I should have asked for further clarification rather than offer up what came to mind upon stumbling across the postings that caught my attention on that matter. I mean once again, I dunno.

It's an interesting board to go bounce around on occasionally, and I had no idea that he was prone to do that originally. Now I'm sort of wondering how it is that my contributions to the 'silly questions' thread might be taken, I like that thread ... sort of a guilty pleasure of mine or something. ^_^

Perhaps I should supplement that by saying that I just thought that people were chasing 'white rabbits' on occasion ... and that can be confusing, at least of late it has been.

Icarus, it's just a thread meant to be "silly". I doubt that anyone reads into it or looks for hidden meanings.

I think you worry a little too much, sometimes. ;)

It's beginning to look as though Paul will never answer any of them, though!

Oh trust me Merry I wish that were the case. I'll share something that I might regret, but it might add some context to what I'm saying ... it's not just me being weird trust me.

Got into a minor dialog with someone out there, they offered up an email address to have a dialog off the board. Well that was fine and dandy as far as I was concerned ... she seemed rather nice, and so a couple of messages occurred between her and myself. Then suddenly she sends me something that made absolutely no sense ... evidently she decided that I was an ex-boyfriend that was "dropping clues" in that 'silly questions' thread taunting her. So like I'm sitting there going ... "say wha??" I mean I sent her a message stating that I thought it was rather odd that she'd decided this considering that I'd announced that I'm a 37 year old woman ... and yet, like now I'm relagated to being her psycho ex-boyfriend playing mind games with her.

The totally wild part of this ... is she's now p*ssed at me??! I'm like ... wait a second, I have not one clue as to what in the world you're talking about.

By the way ... that's like the second sort of thing like that that's happened to me via that board this month. Yeah I might get a complex.

... I must be irresistible or something right? Oh man ... I think I need a therapist to help me figure out what in the world it is that I'm doing to these lovelorn women. Like BEATNUT .... I'm not Gay (although that is my middle name).

By the way ... I've got the emails and the private messages to prove that stuff too, so once again this isn't my active imagination at work.

Not that I'd actually try to embarrass them by sharing those things or anything, I'm just still going over the material that I've got to try to figure out where I might have done something improper within the dialog. See the thing that riles me though is that rather than apologize to me for doing that sort of thing, each of these people ended up acting as though it was my fault that they made a egregious mistake. I don't mind apologizing for things when I can actually see a point to going there ... but in an instance like this one, well an apology from my side seems pointless because it rather condones the impropriety of the whole thing. And that isn't a good way to go about welding an olive leaf in my opinion.

Some people's kids eh?

I'm sorry, Icarus...I've been on the recieving end of something similar over there, so I believe you and sympathize.

It takes all types to make up the world, I guess, and not everyone you run into online is, to put it frankly, "all there". I've been through the mill on that, and that's where I had my problems over at Paul's. Didn't get too much help and well...I won't take it any further than that. In the end justice was done, and that's all I will say on the subject.

If you can, try to ignore the offender, I've found you can't always deal with people who don't rationalize too well.

I hope it gets better for you now and that she won't keep bothering you.

Sorry for laughing  ... trust me, on one hand this whole thing seems like a prime candidate for a screwball comedy (I love screwball comedies too ). However after it happens like, several times ... and this would probably be the third weird exchange that has occurred over several months now ... well, you have to sort of start questioning yourself.

Thanks Merry, that does help a little. The Admin sort of gave me some advise too ... which was helpful, almost felt bad about calling them sneaky.  Although that was all in good fun anyway, and I got to place a nice little skit in that thread that utilized penguins (always nice to be able to utilize them little flightless creatures).

Seriously though ... thanks for the feedback, although she does seem to still want to be preoccupied with me (or rather the ex-boyfriend that she wants to think is stalking her .. man that's confusing, if I do ever write something ... oh never mind). Like I stated ... I must leave a very strange impression on the lovelorn.

I know what you mean, Audrey. I had to sit there and think but it did bring up pleasant memories like our local dj, Chris Carter of Breakfast with The Beatles, confiding in me the evening of Paul's concert in Los Angeles that he just talked to Paul and wanted my opinion of how he should handle the call. That is the one where Paul "won" by answering the question, something along the line of what Paul says during the recording of a Beach Boys song and it being "Vegetables." I got those tickets by doing the Night on the Town where they had a dinner party for you, gave gifts, your seats were within the first 5 rows of a section (I sat behind Chris and right next to the tunnels that the cirque performers walked out of), and you got transportation to and from the venue back to the nighclub where the evening started.

Sorry to hear that you have the 'flu Sarah. :console:

Firstly let me say I did think about not saying anything else on this subject but as you stated that you were trying to understand a lot of things as it is important to you. I changed my mind.

Secondly - the next thing I thought was that I should PM you my reply because I do feel that you are taking a lot of 'flack' in this situation as you are here on the spot but I decided that I wouldn't go against my belief that things are better out in the open within reason
I believe what you say that it was a team effort and that the mods were acting at all times in what they thought was the best interests of the board. Why would they do otherwise? They are all Paul fans.

I hope you don't mind that I've numbered the points I'm replying to but as it was a long post I thought it might make things a bit clearer.

1.I'm not sure what you mean by protectiveness,

2.I'm posting on here to attempt to put another side across that has been left missing. I'm not out to protect anyone.
I want to speak and no one is going to silence me now ;)

3..It may not be the policy at macca for public complaints, but it isn't the only message board that runs on that policy.
It's sad that I've have to read this place to see what people think. That has nothing to do with people no being able to talk freely over at Macca. There has always been a facility for complaints there...

4.I can see though that at time people have felt almost silenced in the past, but again this has never been an intentional thing. To be honest often users have not been willing to accept any explanation given to them openly or via pm and some  have no intention of following any basic rules or advice given to them and some members have been downright abusive and made things personal when the mods have bent over backwards to do the right thing for the majority...

Sorry but I'm off now but only cos I'm flued up to the max again and I've got a few things to do before I log off the net altogether...

But I will be back when I can as I'm really trying to understand a lot of things. It's important to me that I do :)

1. By protectiveness what I meant was protecting everybody. It's probably a different way of the 'treat people like adults' expression. I don't mean that I think it was one-sided or that it favoured one group.

2. That is really the complete essesnce of what I'm trying to put across - the other side has been missing.

3. There was a facility to complain but some of the issues weren't really big enough to bother the Mods with a 'complaint but it still might have benefited from different opinions being heard.

4. If people weren't following the basic rules and were being abusive then they shouldn't have been tolerated as much as they were.

Oh I know Judy. The mods say they didn't have enough evidence, but how the hell did that one person get information and know I was talking about them when I didn't say anything to them at all. They HAD to have read the messages somehow. I still think it was hacked, but people just wanted to be in denial over it.

I AM THE BIGGEST JOHN FAN!
I think that common sense can pretty much dictate that based on the circumstantial evidence that someone indeed did intercept and read pms that were not meant for them to see. However because the good folks at pm.com were unable to prove it they cannot ever be caught publicly stating it happened or that they even believe it happened. The legal sh*t would certainly hit the fan if they did. So under the circumstances I can understand why no one who runs anything at that site will ever be caught saying that they believe the site was hacked. However under the definition of slander under US law we are free to say what we believe to be the truth as long as it is done without malice and we are stating our honest opinion. If I knew it were to be a lie to say that X,Y,Z had done so and so and said it anyway, then I have committed lible, if I say that and in my honest opinion I believe it is the truth (even if I am wrong) then I`m allowed to say it. In order to prove slander and lible you have to be able to prove that the person who made the statement had knowledge that what the said was not true.

My point is that either printed or spoken the supposed offended or injured party has to prove you knew you weren`t telling the truth.

In order to prove slander and lible you have to be able to prove that the person who made the statement had knowledge that what the said was not true.

Which brings us to the Bush Administration's (and certain vocal supporters') standard defence:

"I'm not evil Your Honour, just stupid!

Here's your opportunity...they are looking for two new mods over at Paul's forum, any takers? ;) I saw it posted on the "Not Such A Bad Boy" section, though it may be elsewhere, too.

The admin put it up...I wonder what happened and who they are replacing?

No, many of there don't qualify when it comes to impartiality. We know that. I'd never apply there for anything. I do hope this means somebody has stepped down. I still think they need a complete regime change

I also KNOW my PMs were hacked. I know how it was done, so there would be no evidence of it. The offending party figured out my password.

To be honest, it scares me a bit! When they made Martin a mod I thought at first it wasn't a bad idea but after some time the power they gave him obviously turned his head! So, first of all I'm afraid that someone becomes a mod who I like and ends up like Martin! Or, what is even scarier, someone becomes mod who I think is totally unsuitable and inappropriate for the job (no name dropping here) but I have that bad feeling that they are going to apply for the job (which would basically be as crazy as if I'd apply for it   I did recommend people though!)

Anyway, I hope they find two people who can compete with Martin a bit and take some of the wind out of his sails! :ph43r:

Oh absolutely! There is no doubt in my mind that our PM accounts were hacked into! Common sense tells you that none of us would've been dumb enough to share our private messages with anyone outside of who they were intended for!

I thought denying it on the part of the mods and/or admin was pathetic, too. It happened to me and now I know it was even more widespread than I had imagined.

I just noticed yesterday that Daniel isn't in the team anymore but to be honest I have no idea when he stopped as a mod!

I'm not trying to offend you but why do you think someone would hack your PMs? And why wouldn't the mods take it serious? Again, I'm not trying to start anything here but maybe someone you trust sent the content of your PMs to other people?!?!

Also I don't think that all mods are bad...

The PMs were definitely hacked in to. I know it and Merry knows it. They were between the two of us and neither of us sent them to the person in question. The person in question knew my password and now I know how. That's all I can say. The mods and Admin said it was a very serious charge, but they could find no evidence of it. Well, they didn't find any evidence because the person used my password.

It's a very long story, Anna, and one that isn't worth dredging up now, it's water under the bridge. But is infuriating to know that you don't even have privacy and that someone who has ulterior motives is viewing things they have no business seeing.

Yes, Linda and I were both affected and now I see that there were others involved, too. That they couldn't even see the evidence put before them over there makes me wonder if they really preferred to turn a blind eye to the whole thing.

I to had my PM read by someone else. The lesson we learned was to never use the same password on any other forums as we did. If the person there is the administrator of the sight, they can see your password. Now if you use that password at another site, this person could open your account up when you weren't online and then get into your mailbox, write PM's to others, maybe something not nice, and this person gets mad at you because they think you really did send this.

These people are no longer with the board.

Well from my perspective, given my professional sensibilities ... this is highly unethical. I mean from an Administrator perspective ... that's a serious 'no no.' I'm not quite sure if I want to say much more on it ... but a cardinal rule of network administration is not to 'go there' ... not into website administration, but it's doubtful that the ethics would change.

Nevermind ... I still find that concept to be a little bizzare, but okay whatever.

Well, shouldn't it be obvious when more than one person has said that their PMs were being hacked into? I mean, anyone with brains should realize that something is majorly wrong when more than one person is being hacked into. The mods shouldn't just need proof, they should have relized that something was going on and done something about it.
And I'm glad those people aren't on the Macca board anymore.

It's not quite as simple as that - the administrators of the forum cannot see your password... but there is a way to get it. I'm not going to advertise how you can do it (for obvious reasons) but it definitely can be done.

You can trust Fiona and I with the security of your accounts here, but the sensible thing would be to protect yourselves anyway by having a unique password for every site on which you have an account.

IP addresses are only tracked if a person posts. If a person logs in, checks their PMs and exits without making a post, there is - in essence - no record of that particular visit unless, of course, admin happen to notice them online and do an IP check there and then. It was, therefore, very possible for people (if they had the appropriate password) to sign in, view and copy someone's PMs without the admin being aware - unless they were 'caught in the act'.

The admin at Paul's board had no proof and therefore could not do anything. To act without proof would be grossly unfair and I have to respect their position even though many people knew what was happening and had all the proof they needed.
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

I shouldn't be acting like this, but when someone hacks into something and gets away with it scott free I'm going to hold a grudge.  And I don't hold grudges too kindly.

Thing is, the proof you gave could have originated from anywhere - it wasn't necessarily the product of a hacked account. Other people could have shared their PMs. The allegation was that accounts had been hacked and there was no actual proof to support that allegation - simple as that.

I'd also like you - and everyone else - to be very vague about to whom you're referring and, if possible, please do not even make reference to those people.

I don't know why people are still knocking the Macca board. For one, if you don't like it I think the fact that Andy and Fiona have provided the members with a very good alternative means we can move on. Dwelling on the past is not always a good thing. There are members here who post on both (myself included). This message board has been going on now for almost a year so I just want to say thanks to Andy and Fiona for all of your hard work :)

It's not quite as simple as that - the administrators of the forum cannot see your password... but there is a way to get it.

Are you perhaps referring to something that's peculiar to InvisionFree message board software and not phpBB like the Macca board uses?

Hi Sandra :)

I'm feeling a bit better now thanks :)

Thanks for answering. I don't mind taking any flak. If I was concerned by that, I would never have posted ;)
....but I am concerned now that Andy is now going to suffer with all this talk flying around

I'll answer this here, but I'll respect the peace of this board and just say thanks to all that took the time to talk to me about this :)

1. Thanks for explaining what you mean. I'll just take that point onboard. I will say that some view a mod explaining anything as being sensitive, and yet some view a mod saying nothing as secretive. It is difficult to find the right balance sometimes.
I'm neither secretive nor sensitive :)

2. The other side was not always missing. People did have explanations to them but not always publically so.
When a member wishes to remain annon in reporting and if it involves them not wanting to cause a fuss, it's pretty difficult to discuss anything openly when it's bringing an audience to something or an incident that might have otherwise not been noticed. All anyone ever has to do is ask

3. this answer really carries on from above, one of the things that is lacking on the software is a report a post feature. Having been a mod at a time when it did have such a feature, it is amazing how many did find it easier to report.
If something really worth mentioning, it's worth mentioning if in a post to a thread on the forums or in a pm, but I do understand what you are saying and again I take your point.

4. Abusive members do occasionally get banned and will continue to do so I'm sure, but I was talking more from the moderator point of view when talking of the real abuse following a mod action.
I can only talk from my own experience.
Mods do have to accept that there will be a certain amount to have to take as it's impossible to please everyone all of the time and the occasional abuse goes with the job.
Some members can fly of the handle very badly and be very personal, and hurtful. But people do sometimes apologise too.

Banning should really only be ever a last resort imo as I think on some boards users get banned too easily and for the wrong reasons based on hearsay, but yes if someone was repeatedly abusive to that degree, they would no doubt get banned :)

But there should be proof you were hacked. I'm sure they track IP addresses. And if someone else accessed your pms, the ip address of their computer would be different from that of yours.

I'd think so too and I really doubt they weren't taking the issue serious! And since it was said here that the people who did that are no longer on the board, I guess they were banned!? Strange case!

Ohhh, yeah. I forgot THAT part of getting the IP address. Sorry.

I AM THE BIGGEST JOHN FAN!
Sarah I`m so glad to hear you are feeling better. I had the flu and this strain this year is nasty business. I just want to thank you for having spent so much time especially when you weren`t feeling well to come and chat and discuss all this with us. As I said before I hope you will come and see us as often as you can and lets just play and have a bit of fun. It has certainly been a pleasure to hear your side of things and you have said a lot that has made me stop and think.
You say you want to save humanity but it`s people that you just can`t stand
John came to me in a dream and this is what he said. "I had a vision of a man on a flaming pie, and he told me that Betsy with a B not Lisa with a L is the biggest fan of mine". John trumps 'the boss' !

I WAS ROBBED BY THAT DEVIL WOMAN

No, phpBB does not allow the administrators to see the members' passwords - but there is probably the 'back door' way there as well if an administrator of a phpBB was unscrupulous.

Thanks Andy :)

I meant in so much as extra work to do with how you've had to post asking people to be mindful on naming names as it seems to have stirred up something again.

(I thought I'd better make that clear as my mind is getting more and more tuned in to how things can be misinterpreted and it wasn't until you put it in inverted comma's that I realised it could be taken a more sinister way ;) )
LOL, talk about having to cover all sides :D

No problem Molly - I just want to be careful that old wounds which are best left in the past aren't opened up.

((Sarah)) - don't worry about causing me any work... look at it as 'Instant Karma' for the work I used to cause you. :P ^_^

No harm done. :)

In all fairness to the Maccaboard, they got burnt early by summarily banning a member after someone else claimed that member had hacked her and it turned out that it was all just a viscious and paranoid accusation.

Admin need absolute proof before they can take action against someone for hacking and with all respect to the victims of this other hacking attempt, it's only circumstantial evidence. It sucks, but hackers have a way of covering their tracks like that. We can take heart that many of them aren't too clever at doing anything else and bring themselves unstuck in other ways. ;)

And in all fairness Billy Boy, the Maccaboard, after realizing they made a mistake, reinstated that member.

That member also supplied the 'Accuser/Loser' with a laptop at his own expense.

And also a ticket to see Macca in Boston.

I mean, just as long as we're setting the record straight. ;)
