Whats with the Yoko bashing. Shes alright although I dont like her singing so I just avoid it.

Although I now think shes been officially replaced by Heather as the most hated wife

Yoko has most definitely been replaced as the most hated Beatle wife.

It's Paul's wish... and some people there were quite happy not so long ago that people were not allowed to say what they really thought about Heather when they were still together!

I was never happy about not being able to be honest about my feelings for Heather...or Yoko either for that matter! It's one of the reasons I ADORE this forum!! :sweet:

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say about Yoko! Do you like her or do you hate her??? Because I've seen alot of Yoko bashing on Paul's board... and actually, I do like her!

I don't hate Yoko. When the Beatles first broke up, I wasn't a huge fan...although I have mellowed with age and time...she will never be my favorite Beatle wife. I never cared for her music...or her voice...and I have listened to a fair bit of it.
And I always thought that even Yoko (and Heather, of course) was protected by the 'well <insert Beatle here> loved her, she must have some good qualities" or "she is the mother of <insert Beatle here>'s child...she can't be ALL that bad" on the Macca board.

Ah well that is a reason to go back, I suppose Linda - I didn't get many PM's when I was there regularly so that's not a problem I have anyway. :)
I will continue to be a member there because it is Paul's official board but it doesn't have a lot to interest me anymore so my visits will be infrequent.

I pretty much go to PM.com because I'm friends with Sarah F and I get PMs from her every so often... When I do post, it usually is on similar threads that are here such as Paul Alphabet, Count to a Million and Word Association. The main reason I don't post much there is because a lot of the people there are so closed minded and get upset if you don't think Abe is God (just using an example). Here people respect your opinion even if they don't necessarily agree with it...

People tend to forget that this is NOT the official board. I do see many silly htreads on here like a "thread for this person"or that person. Silly, but thrue I will never post on such threads.

In mine opinion there will be never the BIGGEST Beatles or Macca fan, but sadly there are people who are thinking they are, because they are attending all the events, this is not the true, because there are many fans who can't visits live concerts for many reasons. I have post this same remarks on the Macca baord and they can understands me.

This is true, Fea, but there sure used to be threads for so and so on pm.com. I've seen plenty of them over the years. I haven't forgotten that this is not the official board of Paul McCartney. I also don't find that forum much fun any more, for my own reasons. I saw too much happening over there where the mods DIDN'T do their jobs and I have seen too much overmoderating for my tastes.

No, there is no such thing as the biggest fan--unless you mean in size and I don't know who wins that one.

I remember being very jealous of the fan CBS selected to follow around in Chicago in 1989 for 48 Hours and she ended up getting to meet Paul. I wanted to be that fan as I've yet to meet Paul--even for a few seconds.

But that's your problem and I don't care! If you're not jealous then why are you bothered so much that people talk about their experiences??? Leave them alone! And as Lauren said, you're certainly not the only one who's married with children and low on money! <_<

I don't think Feact is saying she is jealous or that she is the only Paul fan who is married with children.

It seems to me she is saying that not everybody can afford to go to all the concerts, buy all the records or know all the tracks on all the albums off by heart. That doesn't make them any less of a fan than someone who does all those things and if that is what she is saying I have to say I agree with her.

She said - also on Paul's board - that she thinks people shouldn't post how often they've seen Paul but it's their experiences and many people - me included - want to talk about their experiences! Feact is the only person who sees a competition in that! No one posts about the concerts because they want to portray themselves as Paul's biggest fan! They want to talk about the concerts because it's one of the most wonderful experiences in their life and they want to share it with people who've been there too and also people who never got the chance to see him! The music, Paul and all the people there... we're making an experience together and we want to share that! It's ridiculous to request that people shouldn't talk about that on Paul's official board or another fan site like this!!!

We could also "Yes I've been to his concert but I'm not going to tell you about it!" Would that be better?

Anna I haven't seen the thread on the Macca Board that you are referring to so I can't comment on that only what is here. I think it is great that people want to share their experiences of Paul and I enjoy reading them but I don't think it makes them a better Paul fan if they have seen him ten times while someone else has seen him once and some unlucky person is yet to see him.
We are all Paul fans that's why we are here.

But nobody claims that!

Not a single person who described his/her experiences of Paul's concerts - be it two or twenty - has ever claimed that he/she is a better or bigger fan than someone who's never seen him!

That in fact IS only Feact's accusation!

There are quite a few threads in the 'Talk More Talk' section entitled "A Thread For <username>" on the Macca board. Before that section got deleted entirely, there were a few more than there are now. I used to have a "Thread For JeffLynne'sBeard" there myself, thanks to BlueSky ABQ (Wonder what happened to that guy? He was fun! ^_^ ).

I don't know whether people forget that this isn't the 'official board' or whether they just don't care that this isn't the 'official board'. This is a fans forum run by fans for fans. In my opinion, the people who run the official board made too many mistakes and drove many dedicated members to seek an alternative. I'm extremely happy to have, with Fiona, provided the most popular alternative to the 'official' board.

Now, I agree with you that just because someone has seen Paul in concert 20 times, it doesn't make them a bigger Paul fan than the person who has seen him once or twice... or even never, if they haven't had the chance. What I don't particularly agree with is that people who have seen Paul many times should keep quiet about their experiences. I do understand that boasting about something can be unpleasant, but I haven't seen many (if any) people boasting nor making claims that because of their concert-going experiences, they are the biggest fan.

It is a simple fact of life that some people are more fortunate than others. Some have more money, more free time and others have forcibly different priorities in life. Concert tickets are almost prohibitively expensive these days and, for the average person, are a major purchase. I wanted to see Billy Joel this year, but for Fiona and I to go, the tickets for both of us would have cost £160. That's about $300! I'm a huge Billy Joel fan, but I also enjoy eating and being able to afford to have an internet connection. :P

In my opinion, this is an argument about nothing and is yet another instance of people with a certain history expressing hostility. It's unrealistic to expect there to be harmony on this board 100% of the time, but I believe that people should make the effort to at least attempt to understand what each other are saying and not jump on each other at the slightest excuse, accepting an explanation of their words if given. These people with history - and they know who they are - should avoid commenting on each other's posts if they can't make the effort to get along and make peace. This website is supposed to be about peace and love, let's not forget that.
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Kind of like the Vegas motto of what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. So what happens on one board stays on one board. So Dotty the Charmin I created on Wingspan stays with me. :P Whatever problems you have with a boardie should be discussed in a pm and not taken out on us. It's almost like we are being asked to choose sides and defend someone which is an unfair thing to do. There are enough problems in this world that we shouldn't create more. We all have a lot to deal with in our own little lives.

Andy I totally agree with what you said so should we draw up a boxing ring and let the combatants at it or should we just get some rock'em sock'em robots and let them do the fighting?

I don't get some people who have seen any artist several times that they are "better fans" than others. I've know people in other groups I have been in who put down people who haven't seen thei bands and say that "You must see this artist/band more than once to be a true fan." I got that impression from some people at the Macca board. Not everyone can afford to go to the concerts, and yes you can save the money, but sometimes you can't due to other things that come along. I don't think you should whine about it, like I've done in the past. I've learned to live vicariously though people.
I'm dying to see The Damned in concert and when I read they were coming to Las Vegas I thought about saving my money, but that would take me forever. They are performing on November 11th and I'd do anything to see them. If I can't go, I'll see if I can get someone who is going to see if they can get me an autograph, if they do autographs, if not I'll see what I can do. Whatever problems you have with a boardie should be discussed in a pm and not taken out on us.

What a great response, Cathy.

Thank you, Linda. This fight is getting old and it needs to come to a grinding halt. Bicker f you must but please don't drag us into it.

Dotty, you are wrong. I created it and it stays with me.

No, My Dear. I made Charmin stay alive while you gone from the board. so, the charmin belongs to me..

One of the reasons I have enjoyed this board so much is there isn't the bickering that went on at the Macca Board. It got so old and it's old here. Yes, Cathy, if people want to bicker, keep the rest of us out of it. I don't care to read it or hear about it.

I dont want to bad mouth anyone, but Martin sure has his head up in his butt doesn't he. Talk about power hungry. I wish one of the mods would come over here and explain themselves without the excuses they freaking make. "We're sorry we just love power and will do anything anyone tells us. We love attention."

I've never wanted to say anything bad about that board, but I couldn't agree with you more....the most innocent posts get deleted by Martin..... <_<

Martin is useless as a mod and a total egomaniac. I can't stand him. He didn't help when I had a valid complaint. The only one who was any help at that time was Liz. When I had a threat via a PM much later, Sarah took care of that problem in a matter of minutes. I really wish Sarah would come back as a mod. She was fair and square.

Lots of huge egos over there.

I've never had a warning there either, despite someone telling me I had deserved enough to be gone. :P I thought that person should be gone, so I guess all is fair in love and war.

Had to respond to this one ... I kind of did that at one point, just prior to closing out the Icarus69 account. He'd come at me in a PM to tell me that I needed to adjust my posting style because he felt that I might "get myself into trouble" or something. I'd been on that board under that account since 2002 so I was a little aghast at the approach ...

I told him that I wondered what he and the other moderators would do with someone like John Lennon (or George Harrison for that matter), mentioned that Lennon could be a little avant garde and wondered how many of his posts would come under fire for that tendency.

Honestly up to that point I'd actually rather enjoyed Martin's banter on occasion ... but it affected me in a really negative sense and so I told him that he shouldn't bother with me anymore because the account was winding down. Wasn't only him though ... a member had decided to get a little pit-bullish with me. She actually criticized me for using the word "I" too much ... thought that was rather rich, considering that I'm not going to run around using 'thee,' 'thy' or 'thou' just because she's evidently got some sort of identity crisis that made her feel the need to gush endlessly about the 'he,' 'he,' he' end of things.

Venting ... maybe I need to visit the venting thread.

Thanks for bringing this one back up from the depths of whichever forum this is under ... I really needed the reality check.

THANK YOU FIONA, ANDY AND THE REST OF THE MOD TEAM HERE AT STRAWBERRY FIELDS (a whole bunch!) ;)

I AM THE BIGGEST JOHN FAN!
Icarus I had a similar experience with Martin in a pming situation. He deleted a nonsense thread I had started where a running joke was going on between several of the members over there. It was all in good fun and people were having a great time with it. He pmd and told me he was pulling the thread because pm.com being a multicultural board was afraid some people in other parts of the world may not get the humor and be offended. Then proceeds to tell me that American humor is hard for anyone to appreciate. :D

So I wrote him back and informed him that he had just won the ass of the year award. I told him that it struck me odd that on the one hand he was trying to be so politically correct about the rest of the world but felt it was fine to insult me as I was after all just a stupid American. He never answered me back, and I bet he hasn`t answered you either. ;)

i just couldn't be bothered correcting him it was so often it got boring. this friday we have the space within us on ITV now that is a rarity as the Beatles and then paul always prefered BBC why no sodding adverts to ruin it. the first beatle thing to be on itv was the anthology and paul had only put on two things before on ITV. me i am still waiting to see a programme about spring 1981 of paul's, when sitting in the canteen at SAS and some tart from cid (she's in spike island if i remember right) changed the channel to cornation street, with no by your leave or kiss my arse!! according to the venerable martin paul has always put his stuff on ITV sorry wrong just check your video recordings.

Actually he did respond back ... he pulled a portion of the PM that I'd previously sent him, I stated something about how I was "incorrigible, irrepressible but generally harmless" at the end of the message and he quoted that and then stated that at least we understood one another.

... so I PMed him back and told him that I thought he might have a dirty mind, because in my "This is not another Birthday thread" he was kind of giving me a hard time about my whole slant on "thinking 'em, thinkin' 'em, thinkin' 'em" ... stated something about "how dare you think like that."

At the time it was all in good fun ... but during this PM exchange I decided I couldn't really tell what he thought of me and my take on things, so I was like what in the world did he think I was thinkin'. So I told him that I was thinking of the lyrics to the "Happy Birthday" song, which Paul owns in his vast catalog (granted it's public domain stuff ... but he does own that song). And I sort of scolded him for being such a poor sport about things.

By the way ... that Martian thing was pretty cute, Dorothy you're definitely one of those folks that I really enjoy seeing out here ... and thank you everyone else for allowing me to expand a little on that stuff.

Funny how those problems just don't happen here. We can have our fun and our frank discussions and no-one ends up getting shitty over it. How can that be?

And it's not like the board isn't moderated, it's that everyone is sensible about it. I had a post edited just yesterday. The mod levelled with me, told me why it was being done and all was cool. No problem at all! At the other place, it would have been done surrepticiously and if I asked why I would no doubt be told, "We can't discuss moderator deliberations," and THAT my friends, is how conspiracy theories start - when people aren't told the honest truth about what is going on.

It's so nice to be somewhere where we are treated like adults. :)

The thing is, I look there when I remember that it exists, and nothing ever really changes. It is the same sh*t, over and over and over and nobody can talk about anything in Talk More Talk, unlike here (see Bill's last post, he's SO right) and so nothing happens. I much prefer it here where we can speak our minds and be treated as adults.

So long as you say Paul is sexy, mods are cool and Democrats are traitors, you're safe.

you learned the secret to avoiding the mods :D :hyper: :D

No, I avoid them by not going there at all. I tried two timing, but I'm a happier person for not going there any more.

I was going there to check PMs, but after my last exchange, I think I am finished once and for all.

Here, I am treated with respect and dignity by the mods and the other members, who are my friends.

Let's see - democrats are cool, and mods are traitors and Paul is sexy....I think I've got it. :P

So Paul is cool, mods are sexy and democr...no, wait.

Paul's a traitor, democrats are sexy...that can't be right.

Ah f*ck it, I'll just stay here and not have to worry about it. :P

:)

You incorrigible, irrepressible yet harmless thing, you! Soon you'll be defiant instransigents like the rest of us! :D

Thanks for your comments, Bill - I like to think that we treat people how we'd like to be treated ourselves and we're always open for a reality check if anyone disagrees. We're not always 100% sure of ourselves and if there's ever a wider judgement call needed then we generally ask everyone what they think about a particular policy. The Macca board policy is always, "You get this for free - you're lucky to have us - we can close this down at any time we like!" - our policy is that we're lucky to have you.
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
