Anyone know why the the official Paul McCartney forum is offline? Maybe it's a good thing because, without Macca Board withdrawals, we would never have created this place! Anyway, this is a perfect thread to discuss happenings on that board away from the controls of that site's moderating team if it ever comes back. I'm sure I'll still post there from time to time, but maybe this might just be the new home I've been looking for.

I do know for sure that the admin CHOSE to shut it down but I don't know why or how long for. I think they should have warned us or sent an email to tell us why. My friend contacted Devstars, who ignored her email. |

I don't know why they're doing this. If it's a punishment, it\s not fair as there are only a few troublemakers and it's not as if we don't report them. The mods tend to ignore us on that front. I originally assumed it was a software update but nothing takes this long. Then, a server on which I own a message board, crashed and so I thought maybe Devstars had but it's fine. I sent Sarah F a PM on another board so will see if she knows. She and I do get on, although maybe she doesn't know herself. Orders like to close the board sometimes come from "above" eg Paul and/or his team, so I don't know. |

There are some things from the site I've got saved, but unfortunately not all of the things that were on the 'Thread For JeffLynnesBeard'. There's a lot of history on that thread that I'll be very upset to lose. I guess if we get the board back, the first thing we should all do is save everything we want to keep! |

Well, it sure would have been nice if they told us what's going on. It's typical of that place - as much as I love(d) that message board, you felt completely at the mercy of the people who ran it - bizarre decisions, sudden changes in forum rules, lack of open discussion regarding the way it was run... We're very much hoping to get this message board right!

At the risk of sounding like a Mod (sorry Andy and Fi!), I don't think it is fair for us to discuss any shortcomings of the PM.com forum on this particular board. Andy, imagine how you would feel if when the PM board does come back online, people started saying that this SF board sucked and was run badly! |

Well, my personal view is that on the McCartney board, we were not allowed to voice perfectly reasonable complaints in public. Just as I wouldn't hesitate to say what I felt on my personal 'myspace' page, I won't hesitate to say how I feel about certain decisions (without mentioning specifics) on that board. We've been silenced long enough! This place actively promotes free speech and, unless criticism of an organisation extends to making questionable accusations, people are free to say whatever they choose about other message boards here, including the official Macca one. If people wish to put down this message board elsewhere - though I'm sure they would have no reason to do so - they are also free to do so.

I agree with you, Andy. I felt so tongue tied over there and never knew what the rules were. The rules seemed to be different for different people and I never could get an explanation other than the rules are the same for everyone. It didn't take a rocket scientist to see that they weren't the same. If this isn't okay, please delete it. |

Well, we think that most people who post here want to be members of the Macca Board so it is unlikely that anything too scathing will be said here. We love that place dearly, but I think we've all had our problems with it and here's a place where you can express your honest opinions. |

Among other things. I had what can only be termed a nightmare about one Friday night. I dreamed that the person had written an article for the Fun Club about politics. Now anybody who subscribed to the Fun Club knows that it wasn't about such things, unless you call going veggie political. Anyway, Paul had written that this person was his biggest fan and thus the article was published. I woke up in horror. |

I'm just happy that we are allowed to express our feelings here, I have felt bound and gagged for quite a long time! Yes the rules seem to bend or change for certain people while they are strictly adhered to by the mod's for others, and I have gotton very tired of it! I was told I couldn't say things, but others could...what the heck! <_< There seems to be a lack of consitancy there that boggles the mind! I love the McCartney forum just as all of you do, but I had been getting fed up with the way things have been going, totally unfair and biased. Well, I'm not going to have a total tirade about it, but I'm grateful we have this forum to come to, now. Of course I'm not going to abuse it, but freedom of speech is a wonderful thing and should be encouraged! Thank you, Andy! Merry

I'm glad you feel completely un-gagged here, Merry!
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't for a minute want this thread to be slating the forum we all love(d), but there isn't any harm in speaking honestly about the difficulties we've faced there. The 'Nanny Knows Best' mentality of the admin and moderators at times was infuriating. I was told recently by one of the moderators that they hoped I'd 'learned my lesson' about something... Learned my lesson? I'm a father of two who has an important job which makes me literally responsible for the safety of thousands of lives each day... and I've got some person ticking me off about bumping threads up like some amateur school-marm! That's what riles me - a lot of the time they are treating intelligent, educated people like children with little or no explanation for their actions. That's the truth - and you won't get that treatment here, we promise.

Thank you, I couldn't agree more, and I couldn't have said it better!
I don't want to knock it too badly, afterall I would like to post over there againl, (if and when it returns) but I was asked to refrain from some things that others were allowed to. The double-standard just aggravated me, no end! The mods would tell you to go to them about any issues you might have, and then when you did, they wouldn't even answer you. Well, I know we won't have those sort of problems here, and I'm just grateful we can finally relax and enjoy what a forum is meant to be... fun, the enjoyment of one anothers company plus a sharing of ideas, with respect. Now this is what I've been hoping for, for a very long time! Merry |

I, too, would like to say that I have quite a few complaints about that place. Not only is it chaotic with its hundreds of members, the mods are TOO serious about it, the moderating sometimes made me want to throw a shoe at my screen and whenever I've had a "free" discussion that went a bit off I've had posts deleted which is something that makes me extremely angry. Censorship is something I am 100% against and I honestly can't stand having arguments or "offensive" posts deleted. If we couldn't have arguments we would all be sheep, and if someone rushes to take offence, maybe they shouldn't access any potentially "offensive" websites. Argh! There, it's all off my chest now! I don't want to sound too negative, I liked some of the discussions there and many people wrote insightful, intelligent, beautiful posts. I'm sure most of those people are and will be invited over here

No, it looked absolutely the same as it did the last time it was running, Betty! I checked over some of the other forums outside of TMT, and it was just as we had left it, nothing different at all. That's what makes it even more mysterious, that it was working perfectly this morning, and then it was taken down again. I've been hearing a new rumor now...this one has to do with the stories that have been flying around Paul and Heather's alledged marital problems. Someone suggested that they don't want us to discuss it, so they've removed the entire forum. Now THAT one I don't believe is true! Merry

Whoa, if you were to talk like that over there, you'd likely be severely chastised, or much worse!
Only certain people have the benefit of going carte blanche in their posts, and I know I wasn't one of them! The rules were being changed alot recently and were vague enough so that they could be interpreted in whatever way the mods saw fit. I HAVE seen alot of bias and favortism by them and I've just been incredulous! They also seem to be unable to detach their personal feelings from what other people will tell them, even blindly believing, when they have been shown things that prove otherwise, they still don't "get it"! I dunno, I love the forum and all the friends that I've made over there, but I'm in agreement, I sure don't miss all of the nonsense! It's gone overboard now, you have to toe the line or be threatened or warned, and yet you will find somebody else doing the same thing and getting away without a worry. It's very true, it's become full of inconsistancies! Merry

It was back up and I missed it? I want those PMs if nothing else. I wonder what they are doing. I just hope when it comes back we have an all new moderating team and the rules are the same for one and all. I sent some posts to the mods and then got told I couldn't post in any thread they had. That left me basically with the games. When I told another mod that, I was told I had misunderstood. Well, I have the PM telling me that on my computer and that is exactly what it said. |

Hi Merry, Unforuntely I didn't - it was about 2 a.m. in the morning here and I really needed to go to sleep, so I just posted a couple of things to show that I'd been there (I think I was the first person to post anything for a couple of days) and then went off to bed. When I got up in the morning, lo and behold, it was down again. Still, everything was still there where we left it so, hopefully when it next comes back, I can get in there and save all of the material I want, just in case.

Mmm... well, we have a profanity filter here too because there are certain rules the board owners (me & Fi) agree to when you start a board like this and that includes censoring profane language, not allowing obscene material (i.e. pornography) to be posted here and to not allow libellous comments to be made. Other than that, we're pretty open minded around here.

Hi Lisa, Great to see you here, thanks for joining us! No, none of us have any real clue as to what's happening to www.macca.devstars.com - as other members have said, it would have been nice for them to send a bulk e-mail out to let us all know what is going on, but I don't honestly believe that they particularly care about the members, nor do I believe that the people running the site really love what they do... it's just a job to them, I think. I realise that, as the official message board, they have to be 'professional' and that their actions reflect upon Paul McCartney, but the admin (team?) there are so cold and 'out of reach' - and they don't respond (nor welcome) users' feedback about the forum, only the main site itself. All we get if we make any comments is that we have no right to complain because it's a free site and can be withdrawn at any minute. I believe we all deserve to be treated a little better than that, after all, we're there because we're fans of Paul and support him in many different ways. I honestly don't believe that Paul owes his fans anything - I think, for all the pleasure he's given us, we probably owe him, but we deserve to be treated with a touch more consideration on his official forum, that's for sure. Anyway, that's my little speech for today. Very glad to have you here, Lisa-Marie - feel free to start your own Fluid Rouge thread here.

I don't even think the mods like what they were doing. They were not impartial from my perspective, not even close. I've got the PMs on my computer to prove it. I actually did communicate with Admin a few times and the last question I asked them was the most important--and the only one they failed to answer. It's still in my sent box over there, so somebody read the message. They didn't care. They always signed the PMs cheers, but no name and I didn't think they met what they wrote anyway. Personalities also seemed to change once they became a mod. I know they had to enforce rules, but they got crazed about picking on little things and not seeing the big picture, if you know what I mean. And, good to see you, Lisa. We met in Toronto at the Loose Moose, albeit briefly. |

I never made it up to the hierarchy of the "Admin". My issues seemed to get deadlocked at the mod level. I would try to communicate with them, they encouraged you to, and when you did, they'd ignore you, the ol' Catch 22! It's kind of strange, really...I've seen a couple of mods at another forum but neither of them will even give us a clue as to what's going on, if they know. I agree Linda, once they become mods their personalities change, I think it must be part of the mod "Oath and Initiation" and they take it all a little too seriously! Merry |

You have to be special to communicate with Admin! <_< It's not necessarily a good thing. Remember, it took them a month to reply to me the first time and that was only after I got a mod to nudge them. I was totally dissatisfied with my communciations with admin, whoever they are. I would reply to them just like that--Admin, whoever you are! They had no sense of humor. |

Well regardless of what's going on... and if I may be so blunt... it's nice to hear all these things from other people's mouths. I've been sensing an all-around censorship that made it virtually impossible to discuss anything that wasn't simple mumbo jumbo. All I can say is thank you for starting this little board and that it's wonderful to be amongst the finest of people. Us Maccies stick together!

Guys, I've been reading this thread and I have to say WOW. So much hatred for the Macca MB. I've learned with experience that bashing message boards only causes wars in the end. If/when the Macca board comes back some will probably not be welcomed there if certain people see this thread. I'm not saying that to be mean or anything, but I've had experiences several times when others who had bad experiences with a MB would bash the message board would only get themselves into deep doo doo with the other boards. And it caused a lot of issues. Just thought I'd way my $.02, and I hope this doesn't get me kicked out.
Just a bit shell shocked over these things.

A little honesty is refreshing sometimes, Molly. People have been given the opportunity to cut loose and they've grasped it. Has anyone said anything which has been untrue?
BTW, you're entitled to your opinion - no-one will be kicked out for saying how they feel about something, we believe in free speech here. If you haven't already, then have a look at the forum rules - it states what we stand for.

People deserve a right to reply, Molly, and they were denied it at the Macca board. I'm surprised that you're surprised, actually. Have you never felt censored and restricted there?
What made the McCartney board great were the members. The members were the board and it was great despite it's policies, not because of them. I'm very fond of the place - I've met some great people there... most of them are now here! I met Fiona there - there's a lot of history, a lot of good times. I hope it comes back and if they see this and want to take the content of this thread into consideration and realise that people don't respond well to being treated like kids then that would be the best outcome. If they want to pout and ban people for expressing their opinions and being slightly critical about the board's policies and the way those policies were carried out then that kind of proves our point here, doesn't it? ...and that's my opinion.

I too feel pretty peeved that we were not all informed why Paul's board is down. They did this straight after Kings Dock in 2003 & a lot of us were hopping mad over it. I actually at that time managed to get hold of MPL's telephone number ( can't for the life of me remember how now ) & I rung them. Pretty hostile reception. Never did find out why. I also got very fed up with the Hitler type attitude of the mods over there. I had at least 2 of my posts deleted which were pretty harmless. I always felt they had it in for me but God knows why because I wouldn't know any of the mods on there if they came & bit me on the bum. |

I don't think the mods have enough authority to decide something like that. You don't like the thread, don't read it. If you don't like to be a mod, don't be a mod! That's all. You can find these kind of problems at every board. I don't think that closing it is the answer. I think that Paul has to do another tour and play Rock Show. Imagine the amount of threads we wont be reading! E.g: "Paul has to Play Rockshow!" "Why Paul doesn't listen to us?" "The Stones humilliated us!" |

I've got two times a big warning, and I know three times I will be bannend from pm com. They have been deleting lots of mine threads and the most are harmless so to say. They mods are not impartail some of them did become friends with some other macca boardies and those people will never be banned. No won't calling names here. I can make here a very long story about this but I won't because maybe some of the mods will be spying here on what I have to say. |

I'd never gotton a warning, nor have I ever asked anyone to delete any posts that I'd made. If anything I'd bent over backwards trying to please the mods so that some issues could be worked out. If I got lucky, I would at least get a "thank you, we're looking into it..." message, but I'd hear nothing back. They sure don't want to go overboard in friendliness, I'll say that! They are definitely NOT impartial, those that are friends have been treated differently than the rest. I won't go into particulars here, but I've been very disappointed with the way they handle things. As for who has the main say-so about closing the forum down, I would assume that the mods can bring their issues to "Admin", and if there are enough of them complaining, then maybe they could. I know nothing about how things have been done there, but from an outsider's point of view, that's how it would look to me. They've been given absolute power in lieu of Ant, or whoever it is, and they could make a plea to him/them if they feel their reasons are strong enough. Just my two cents worth. Merry

Yes, but in that case they have to know the other side of the story. The problem may be the users, but can be the mods too. And yes, I know that the mods have preferences with their friends... |

I'd love to hear the PM.com forums mods take on the situation? I actually was good friends with a couple of them. *dodges some of the flying tomatoes* I do have to agree I felt a lot of tension going on, espeically after the "Seal Hunt" threads were coming, also another issue I won't go into (it had to do with certain members, Andy and Merry I think you might know what I'm talking about). I actually got yelled at for "backseat modding" a few times and got a huge warning from one of the mods because of it. I guess I'm one of those people who thinks that complaining sometimes only causes more trouble than it's worth, and only starts wars. It's like we're a bunch of old ladies bitching about "the youngins'playing their music too loud." |

I disagree completely. You lose your right to complain and say how you feel about things and there's one word for that kind of system: Dictatorship. People need to stand up for themselves and join a collective of people who feel the same way - that's when a few dissidents become a movement. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we're doing anything heroic or courageous here, but surely the fact that so many people are relaying their negative experiences about the way they've been treated must suggest to you that people have something to complain about and that it's not simply a 'bunch of old women' griping? I'm pleased that so many people have been able to say how they really feel about the way they were treated somewhere on a public forum rather than in private and keeping it all hush-hush. It actually makes me feel better to know that it's not just a few of us who feel this way.

Well we have to remember the mods are human too and are just as likely to make mistakes in judgement as the rest of us. I just wish they'd be a little more open to conversation, they seem to treat us with a tad less respect than they need to, or at least that's how it appears to me. They are in authority and so we don't need to know..that kind of attitude. I've seen a couple of the mods around elsewhere. One would prefer not to be considered one right now and doesn't want to talk about any of it, while the other was a good friend of mine at one time, but something seems to have changed, I sense it. Again, I have to keep in mind that this person is human and open to making his or her own mind up and perhaps has been led into different avenues of thought (I'm trying so hard to tippy-toe around the issue here...!) so I don't want to press it. I'm just a little let down about this person, that's all. I don't know who else we could complain to. Those two people aren't saying a word about anything, and seem unmoved. I've picked up hints before the board disappeared that it could be taken away from us at any time....so maybe they have. If they do read this, I would hope that they would be understanding and see that we aren't being critical about the forum per se, but about the way things have been done recently and why so many of us here all feel the same. With as many of us sharing the same feelings about it, they would have to see that something has been going wrong and needs "fixing"! Merry

Could see the mods from the PM.com forum reading this and thinking, "Oh all those who are posting at that Strawberry Fields Forum" are all banned from this board because they're talking crap about us.
They could call this board, "The board of all the ex Paul boardies who didn't want to follow the rules and want to be in a clique." Sorry, but if they banned me from the Paul board because I posted here I'd lose no sleep. They would lose a lot of members then.

I could care less what they think or thought of me or anyone else over there and so what if they don't let me or anyone else back in. Freedom of speech is something I truly believe in and I didn't sense it to be a priority there. Many times I was contacted to stop discussing various issues which I felt were not offensive; on the contrary, I felt they were rather relevant and interesting. I don't know Macca at all... but I suspect he wouldn't tolerate censorship either. Everyone has the right to complain... everyone has the right to voice an opinion... everyone has the right to share their thoughts and feelings. And everyone has the right to equal fun. Different strokes for different folks. If that doctrine isn't followed, then a large amount of people will be feeling left out and uninterested. I'm not here to badmouth anyone; that's not my style. I'm sure none of us are here to do so. It's perfectly ok to voice an opinion, even if it appears to be a heated one. Anyone's opinion holds as much validity as the next persons and all deserve equal attention. |
