Hy-7![]() 2 Hy-7s during early test flights While the Hy-1 & Hy-3 are multirole fighters, the Hy-7 is an interceptor, through & through. Designed by Hypersphere Ltd. as a replacement for the MiG-31, the cranked-arrow winged Hy-7’s top speed is a blistering Mach 3.4, thanks to the Hy-7’s 2 afterburning BeE-101-10 low-bypass turbojet engines. Due to the heat that’s encountered at mach 3 speeds, the Hy-7 is constructed almost exclusively out of Titanium alloys. Another noticeable feature of the Hy-7 is its size. At 30.8 meters in length, it far surpasses the Tu-28 ‘Fiddler’ as the World’s Largest Production Fighter Aircraft. The reason for the immense size is for range & payload. ![]() The original prototype Hy-7 Model 701 firing a XRAAM at a target drone 260 miles away The payload of the Hy-7 uses a rotary launcher in the missile bay to carry up to 8 ultra-long range missiles. The aircraft can also switch out the rotary launchers to hold 2 XRAAMs. The XRAAM is, like the Hy-7, a massive missile. At 11.2 meters long, it dwarfs its nearest competitor, the Novator K-100, which ironically, the XRAAM is based on. The radar that the Hy-7 uses is a derivative of the AER-100, the AER-105. It uses a much larger antenna to allow the Hy-7 to see out far enough to get a read on enemy targets and pick out the most dangerous of them. Because of the shear amount of power that comes from the radar, it must operate like the radar on the MiG-31 and be shut off when near the ground. In fact, it’s so powerful that the pilot & radar operator must wear special flight suits to prevent radiation sickness. ![]() Model 701 refueling from Il-78 Midas Tanker along side MiG-31M chase plane during speed trials Statistics: Crew: 2 Type: Interceptor Length: 30.8 meters Wingspan: 20.7 meters Speed: Mach 3.4 at altitude Service Ceiling: 85,700 ft Electronic equipment: -- Hoffnung Technologies AER-105 AESA radar -- IFF -- IEEE-1394B Data Bus Weaponry: -- Air-to-Air missiles: ---- AA-13 Arrow(R-37), AA-9 Amos(R-33), Novator K-100, XRAAM Price tag: $60,000,000 USD per Unit; Missiles are sold separately |
