All of the people I talked to Saturday said they couldn't wait for the show. Most were wondering if we were having one, when I told them it was at Hollins U. they said oh boy!!!! |

Well I made it to the show today at Hollins and the boys had a great time. I don't know if I had set my expectations too high or what but NOBODY except one person was looking to trade HWs. I felt like an idiot dragging my box of trades around. I did sell a few of my T hunts, making up gas money for the trip though I was hoping to just do some friendly trading amongst a larger group of fellow collectors. Almost all of the vendors there weren't looking to discuss collecting of HWs, just doing a very annoying hard sell spiel of their wares and one vendor who was approached by my boys in their search for stickers for the scavenger hunt was very rudely talked down to and treated like common crap for asking if he was one of the one's doling out the stars. Overall, I know SCHW did a great a job putting on the show but as for my first visit to a local HW show, the greedy, somewhat rude vendors killed the entire experience for me and I doubt I will attend another one anytime soon. As for all of the SCHW guys and gals, you did a wonderful job and I'm sorry alot more folks didn't show up and help you guys cover the cost for renting the gym. And a big ol' Thanks to the two SCHW members who took the time to talk to me and make some pity purchases and help me make gas money. Star City Hot Wheels crew is a great bunch of people and I hope things go great in the future but again, the snotty, rude vendors who didn't want to talk to you unless you had the wallet out to make a buy really left me cold . Thanks again and Happy Hot Wheeling in 2008 and beyond!! Tony Clarke, a.k.a vikingride. |

Thanks to everyone who had a part in putting on today's show. I didn't realize you would have to haul tables from different locatons. What work that must have been! Thanks for going to all the trouble. I really thought it was nice how the club catered to children by having the races, coloring and scavenger hunt, etc. I had a great time and talked to a lot of nice people. I sold a few cars and got in some nice trades. All-in-all, it was worth my time to attend and I'm glad I did. WDBJ-TV has a short story on the event. Click on this link below (or copy and paste into your browser) and look for the little camera icon to watch the segment. http://www.wdbj7.com/Global/story.asp?S=8089440 Thanks again to all who worked so hard to put on a successful event. Thank you SCHW! What a great show and a great time. Everyone I met was very nice and kind. My wife came for the first time and she had fun. She enjoyed racing the Noodle Head. My son had a good time also. I know it takes a lot of work to get this thing up and going and I appreciate it. My collecting focus had narrowed a lot and I only added 2 cars to my collection. Selling was decent. I wish I had met vikingride to discuss trades or collecting. The vendors I was around were very nice and I saw several trades going on, I even did a trade with one gentleman. Thanks again, David |

Tony, I'm the old gray haired guy that didn't get to bring my collection to trade with you since my back went out due to working friday to help with the show. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the vendors. I saw at one time or another all of them busy selling there wares. I had to wait several times to make purchases of things I wanted. I saw an awful lot of trading going on also. Maybe some of the TH's you had were older ones no one needed. I saw just about all the TH's regular from this year and last year going for three dollars. This was our biggest show ever with over 300 adults and over 50 children. So please understand everyone was busy. The vendors have also traveled many miles to sell an trade. I know you sayed you traveled from Lexington, that's not far when you consider some came from as far away as 600 miles. Maybe I souldn't tell you this but my brother in law and myself, when we can't sleep, get up in the middle of the night an drive to Lexington Walmart, just off 81 on 64, then drive on to Stauton to check Walmart there, then back to Lexington after breakfast, an on up 64 to Covington to check out Walmart then K-Mart. We have always found TH's in these stores. Our club has tryed to show the different aspects of Hot Wheels. There are alot of guys that just want to race, others that just build customs, others that collect and others that just get together to talk about them. Since this was your first show don't let it be the one that gives you a bad taste in your mouth. You've got to meet an know people and them get to know you before you make a decision. I saw one gentleman dancing as he left. I asked what he was so happy about, his reply was he had found a $20 car for $.50 he had been looking for for two years. I found a car I had been looking for for over a year and I was excited to get it for $40. Think about it until our next show and maybe you will see how many things could be involved. Hope you will be at the next show an not let one ruin it for you. Thanks for coming an hope your boys enjoyed part of the show. Fred |
