Jessie J pushing Bruno Mars close
Source: MW

By Paul Williams

Singles

One of the first releases to be affected by Universal’s decision to close the sales/airplay window is set to make a big initial dent on the new UK singles chart, with Jessie J’s Price Tag only being outsold this week by Bruno Mars.

Just days after debuting at both retail and radio, the Island/Lava-issued Price Tag is just 4,000 sales behind the week’s current frontrunner, Elektra/Atlantic act Bruno Mars’ Grenade, according to OCC data.

Both Universal and Sony announced last month it was shutting the airplay/sales window for future releases, meaning tracks would be available to buy almost as soon as stations started playing them.

Jessie J’s new single will be joined in this coming Sunday’s Top 10 by its predecessor Do It Like A Dude, which is the sixth biggest seller at this point in the week, behind Grenade, Price Tag, RCA act Ke$ha’s We R Who We R, XL signing Adele’s Rolling In The Deep and the Bad Boy/Interscope-issued Coming Home by Diddy Dirty Money and Skylar Grey.

Polydor act Enrique Iglesias is likely to debut in the Top 10 with his new Ludacris-paired single Tonight (I’m F**kin’ You), which is presently placed ninth for the week. Other new entries lower down should include Ministry of Sound act Yasmin’s On My Own and the 4th & Broadway/Island-issued Higher by Taio Cruz featuring Kylie Minogue.

Albums

After achieving an opening week of 208,090 units, XL act Adele’s second album has been hit by a week-on-week sales drop of 36.2% but that should still be good enough to give it a second week at one. Closest to it is Mercury act Chase & Status’s newly-released album No More Idols, while Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans is currently placed third, Adele’s first XL album 19 fourth and Def Jam/Mercury Rihanna’s Loud fifth.

A new Eva Cassidy compilation, the Blix Street-issued Simply Eva, is showing up in midweek sales as a new entry at six, while a repackaged version of RCA act Ke$ha’s debut album Animal is 11th. Other new arrivals include Loog/Polydor’s Chapel Love with Palace, a reissue of George Michael’s Sony album Faith, a Rhino Roberta Flack compilation and new titles from UMTV’s Skepta and Memphis Industries’ Go Team.
