Adele chasing first number one single

Singles

While Mars seems assured top billing on the albums chart come the weekend, in the singles market he has his work cut out as XL’s Adele looks for her first chart-topping single. Her brand new offering Rolling In The Deep is presently ahead of Mars’ Grenade, albeit by just 254 sales. Her single is one of four new releases showing up among the top six positions with Ministry of Sound’s Wretch 32 featuring L’s Traktor in fourth place, Interscope’s Coming Home by Diddy – Dirty Money featuring Skylar fifth and the Mercury-issued Like U Like by Aggro Santos and Kimberley Walsh sixth.

Jive/RCA’s Britney Spears’ newly-issued single Hold It Against Me is just a few sales short of a Top 10 place, ranking 11th for the week to date, putting it two places ahead of Fascinatiom/Polydor’s newly-released Mow Or Never by Jodie Connor featuring Wiley.

Albums

Bruno Mars’ debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans is heading for number one this week, but he faces a close battle with Adele to stay at the top of the UK singles chart.

The newly-issued Elektra/Atlantic album is more than 2,000 sales ahead of Fiction/Polydor act White Lies’ Ritual, which was also released this week and currently ranks in second place with Def Jam/Mercury signing Rihanna third with Loud.

Parlophone’s Tinie Tempah appears to be benefiting from the publicity of his four Brit nominations last week with sales increasing of his first album Disc-overy by nearly 50% on the week. The album, which was eight on last Sunday's chart, is the sixth biggest seller in the week so far.

Just outside the Top 10 Rough Trade-signed Oregon rock band The Decemberists are heading towards their highest position yet in the UK with new album The King Is Dead ranking 12th at this stage of the week. Two veteran rock acts will also show up in Sunday’s chart with new sets from UDR’s Motorhead and SPV’s Magum currently 19th and 23rd for the week.

I'm surprised if White Lies won't go #1. They did it with their debut which sold platinum. Should've guaranteed a #1 album in January.

Poor White Lies, they should have taken it. The shit albums tend to always lose nowadays (hope that isn't just me getting old)
