Digital Spy: McFly have decided that they want to leave their record label, according to a report. Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd are in Australia recording the last album that they are expected to release under their current deal with Island Records. The lads are said to be "tired of being a boy band" and wish to find a label which will give them the freedom to change their image. A source told The Sun: "The boys feel they have outgrown the company. Label chiefs have plans for them they disagree with. They are tired of being a boy band. "They want to be recognised for their songwriting and being more than just a teen act. The time in Australia has given them a chance to put together their battle plan. They are all really excited about the idea of being free to make their own decisions about their future." |

If they continue to sell sluggish amounts of records as a commercial act, they'd better be prepared to perhaps sell even less with a new direction. Something about the article seems a bit dodgy. Releasing one more album with a record company you dislike, lol, that's really going to motivate Island to give them any support in promoting the album. And after a GH? Bizarre. |

It's a fact, you can't ever grow up AND be in a band. The two are mutually exclusive. This album is the last one they're contractually obliged to make with Universal/Island. I think the point they're making is that they're not going to be renewing that contract once this one is done and out there. I hope that the label decide that they too can't be arsed with it and just release it with no promo or effort on their behalf lol. Anyway, they'll always be a boy band because that is what they are. IMO, Instead of finding a new label they should just split up leave the world in peace. |
