CHRIS BROWN - EXCLUSIVE Posted Image When you first listen to Exclusive it is clear that Chris Brown has failed to grow or mature as an artist on this 2nd effort and most of the stuff on Exclusive follows the same old Chris Brown formula used on his debut release. But once you come to that realization and give Exclusive a proper listen it is actually quite good. The first single Wall 2 Wall floped so badly that the record company labelled it the album's buzz track and the album's 2nd single Kiss Kiss became the [pretend] 1st single. This proved a smart move because Kiss Kiss reached the #1 spot on the Billboard charts this week after heavy promotion work and a wonderful VMA performance. It's safe to say that Exclusive has its fair share of strong and not so strong tracks. The weaker part of Exclusive is not at all bad and still worth a listen, but it just sounds like old material that could have come straight from Chris' first album. 01 Throwed Probably the freshest, most experimental track on the album. The sound of Throwed has been labelled as 'a go-go feel' and is an up-beat and fun album starter. A 02 Kiss Kiss (featuring T Pain) Didn't like this track in the beginning but damn is it infectous! The album's 2nd single features a spoken intro/rap from the man of the moment T Pain. After the ultra cool VMA performance, the world seems to be reaping in the sounds of Kiss Kiss! Another great track from Chris. A 03 Take You Down The hottest track on the album. This is the kind of mature sound that Chris Brown should be aiming at and its the main reason why this track standouts out as the album's highlight. it has that old school sexy Jodeci feel to it and the electric guitars add to the excitement of the joint. A+ 04 With You Another bloody Neyo/Irreplaceable carbon copy. I'm so sick of this recycled sound. Enough already! C 05 Picture Perfect (featuring Will-I-Am) A very average and typical Will-I-Am/Black Eyed Peas sounding track. Its jumps from slow to fast and is just an annoying mess! C- 06 Hold Up (featuring Big Boi) This is a slight improvement from the last two tracks but still nothing special. The track features Outkast member Big Boi and seems like a grower to me. C+ 07 You The album finally takes a turn with this ultra hot Prince style track. The sound is very grown up and something Chris should have explored more on this album. The track is pure baby making material. Turn it up loud! A+ 08 Damage Probably the worst song on the album. Definitely a filler that could have been removed on the final album cut. D 09 Wall To Wall Personally I don't think this track is as bad as it was made out to be. The track is quite strong and the beat rather addictive. The reason for its lack of success may have something to do with the music video which looked a little too cheap and tacky for my liking and it probably wasn't the best choice for 1st single either. B- 10 Help Me Boring. C 11 I Wanna Be Another filler after another. C 12 Gimme Whatcha Got (featuring Lil Wayne) I'm a huge fan of Lil Wayne so I was excited to hear this track. Although its a decent track with a catchy hook I was a lil disappointed by Chris' work on this track. The chorus is very repetitive and gets annoying after a while. B 13 I'll Call Ya Finally a great track. It only took a whole album (12 tracks) to get to it though. A funky little joint that has single potential. I'd love to see a dance routine done to this track. A- 14 Lottery Here Chris Brown saves the best track for last. Definitely my favourite track on Exclusive and very reminisent of the Ms Jade/Timbaland joint Dead Wrong. Its also worth waiting for the last 30 seconds of the track where the beat gets switched up and turns way too hot for its own good. Great closing track. A+ OVERALL ALBUM RATING: C+ |

I have mixed feelings towards him. He seems to be very talented artist but somehow he fails to impress me musically. Maybe I should give him time... I like 'Kiss Kiss' a lot (finally a decent track featuring T-Pain) |
