] Knut The Polar Bear Dead at Age Four 3/19/11 at 3:45 PM2Comments. International superstar Knut the Polar Bear died suddenly on Saturday at age four at the Berlin Zoo. "It was a completely normal day: He was with the female bears before, who had just been shut away," bear keeper Heiner Kloes said. "Then, Knut strolled around the enclosure, went into the water, had a short spasm and died." The polar bear rose to global fame after he was rejected by his mother when he was born in captivity in 2006, and he was raised by zookeepers, nearly doubling the Berlin Zoo's daily attendance. Knut appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair with Leonardo DiCaprio in 2007, but ultimately even fame couldn't replace his mother's love. Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit called Knut's death "awful," and fans have gathered at the zoo to mourn. [AP via Yahoo] . |

Awww this is sad at least he is not suffering and will be in heaven with the gentleman who raised him. I bet they are happy to see each other once again.

| It's very sad. We'll have to wait until the autopsy is published. His childhood was so lucky with his "father" Thomas Dörflein. Unfortunately the paradise ended soon. First Mr. Dörflein died from heart attack. During the last years Knut has not had real bear pals in Berlin. He shared his home with 3 female adult bears, one of them was his mother. They mobbed him and the Berlin Zoo tried hard to make him attractive to the group. Who knows what happened? Now he is with his beloved human dad in polar bear heaven. |

| Yes I heard the females did not like him. I wonder if they didn't drowned him because I heard he was found dead in the pool. Being hand raised he didn't know how to properly fight off three other bears. |
