He is already feeding his white tigers again. Even Montecore, that has injured him so badly in October 2003 - but not out of malice. Hannelore had her digital camera with her, but she hesitated. "I wasn't sure about photographing Roy - but later he encouraged me."

Heino and Hannelore in Vegas

They were actually on vacation in Florida. Before the trip, they had promised SUPERillu to take o lot of photos there, to create a picture-journal. But it came out differently. And in this case, it was a sensational surprise. SUPERillu received the first photos that show Roy Horn's recovery. After the accident most did not believe that the magician has a chance to survive. Then they said he would need a nursing care forever. Photographs published three quarters of a year ago pictured him as a wreck.

An anniversary idea

"Hannelore had the idea to fly to Las Vegas and celebrate our 26th anniversary on April 3 with Siegfried and Roy. We have been friends for many years and saw each other last time when Roy was still in the hospital", said Heino after their return to a SUPERillu reporter Bärbel Beuchler. Heino performed in Las Vegas in 1978, and that's when he met the "Masters of the Impossible." A close friendship developed. "We are happy to be the connection to Germany for both," says Heino. Roy was so happy about the announced visit that he invited them to stay for two days. "It was an incredible experience," said Heino, who is usually calm. "Siegfried picked us up at the hotel and we went to "Little Bavaria," Roy's sanctuary outside of Las Vegas. When we arrived at the ranch, I heard my songs from the trees." Roy was waiting for them in the living room. He had chosen a Heino CD, which could be heard through speakers in the entire park. It was a lot of fun for him to organize everything perfectly and surprise his guests. Just like a magician. "When we came in, he was sitting in his electric wheelchair," said Heino. "With Siegfried's help he stood up and smiling walked a few steps towards us, hugged Hannelore."

A fighter

It is unbelievable how Roy recovered after the strokes. The paralysis on his left side is still there, it is however obvious that it is getting better. "I admire Roy, his fight for his life," says Heino. "His facial expression is working very well again, even though you still can see the scar on his neck. He talks the same way as before, makes jokes and is mentally fit. With his leg brace and a walker, he can even walk short distances by himself." The other times he drives in his electric wheelchair. He laughs a lot, but he gets impatient if he wants to do more than his body allows. "This is a man whose battle against his disability encourages us," said Heino.

Siegfried's oath

And last - Roy has a faithful friend in Siegfried Fischbacher. Many couples fail during such tragedy. "With Siegfried and Roy I've got the impression that their relationship became even stronger," said Heino. "Siegfried is always there, he does not let Roy out of his sight for a second. He even moved back into the house, after five years of living in separated home. He cares for Roy better than any spouse would." Siegfried said by Roy's hospital bed: "Without him I will not perform any more," and devoted his life entirely to his friend, with whom he started his career 46 years ago. With their white tigers, they became world stars, rich and famous. And then - irony of the fate: a white tiger ended their career...

There is hope

Yet exactly those animals are Roy's best therapy. The tigers, lions, elephants and dolphins at the "Secret Garden" situated behind the show temple "Mirage". He visits them three, four times a day. "He drives his wheelchair to the enclosure and whistles. The tigers start coming and he feeds them by hand. They trust him and he trusts them. I strongly believe that one day he will be on stage again, one way or another..." said Heino.
