"Yes, I'm looking for Sheldon Hossteder, I tell the maître d walking into the Flamingo Room, a lounge in Las Vegas which had famously been frequented by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, and other Las Vegas celebrities in the past. The man raises his eyebrow, looking at me, dressed in my new blue dress that I had bought for the occasion, and my ever present shadow, Brett Lukas, who is dressed in his normal sVo official's uniform. He looks me up and down, before walking from his stand signaling for us to follow. I look back at Brett, who is holding onto my sVo Tap-Out Championship in his hands. It felt gaudy to be wearing the thing in a place like this, but unfortunately, I had to have it and Brett with me the whole time. As we follow behind the maître d, he brings us to a table not far from the stage in which the show for the evening was to be taking place. I see Sheldon sitting there, he is wearing a three piece suit, but has his ever present bow tie. He sees us coming, and I stop, and turn around to Brett, "I know you have to go where ever I go...but do you think maybe you could sit at the bar or something, just for now?" I ask. Brett looks around, "Yea, I don't think anyone from this crowd is going to do anything." Brett says as he retreats towards the bar area. I walk over to the table where Sheldon is waiting, he stands up "Wow, Sara. You....you look amazing." Sheldon says as I sit down. "Thank you Sheldon, you look handsome yourself. Even still have the bow tie. It's kind've cute." I tell him as he sits back down at the table. Sheldon's face turns red, "I burrowed the suit from my mentor. And all I have are bow ties." I look around the room, no one seems to notice us, which gives me some ease. The room is pretty dark, with candles on each table giving just enough light for the people at each individual table to see each other. So even if there were someone who knew who we were, the likeliness of anyone seeing us is low. I look over at Sheldon, "What made you pick coming here?" I ask him. "This place is a bit of a Las Vegas institution. Frank Sinatra performed on that stage. Frankie Avalon would often come here, as would Marilyn Monroe. But the guy we're going to see tonight is great." Sheldon tells me. "Who is it?" I ask him. Sheldon doesn't say anything, as the band on the stage begins to play. As the curtain begins to lift, the band's front man begins to speak, "Ladies and gentlemen, the Flamingo Room is proud to present, The Merchant of Venom, the one, the only, living legend of insult comedy, DON RICKLES!!!" The spotlight hits the stage as the legendary comedian comes out from the backstage area. He walks out onto the stage immediately begins scoping out the crowd, "My god...look at this crowd...I swear, I've seen better looking groups of people running from natural disasters." *rimshot* Don begins to look around the room, "Like this guy right here...look at him. He kinda looks like James Dean....James Dean after the accident maybe." *rimshot* "And look at her, lady, what kind of fur are you wearing? Wait, you're not wearing any fur? I guess it must be your natural pelt then." *rimshot* Its all quite funny, and everyone takes his insults in stride, which is the point of this all. But I can't help but feel a little self conscious when I see the legendary comedian point towards Sheldon and I, "Hey look what we got here, I think I found a smurf." *rimshot* I chuckle, it's not like it's the first time I've ever heard that before, "Whats the matter honey? Did you get a swirly in a toilet with one of those things that turns the water blue? Oh wait...I think your date might be the one that knows a little something about swirlies." *rimshot* And then everything stops as large man in a crimson red suit walks from behind to the curtain. Upon his face is a crimson red mask with a gold crown on top. "Woah...I thought I did weird things while experimenting with LSD." Don Rickles looks the large man over and a quick glance in his direction is enough to send him over the side of the stage. With a microphone in hand the man takes center stage and points to the ceiling. "It seems we have a change of plans this evening." The crimson faced man points at me, "Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce Sara Pettis. sVo's own tap out champion!" A spotlight lands on me. The crowd turns and Brett stands up from the bar and sighs. "My name is Nirvana and I'm quite the entertainer." Nirvana bows in my direction. "I've got a song for you, Sara. I think it fit's the situation." The opening to some song begins to play. Nirvana holds the microphone to his mask and begins to sing. "Blue moon. You saw me standing alone, without a dream in my heart." The spotlights go blue as making it hard to see. Unknown to me, I'm being surrounded by a group of Nirvana's 'henchwomen' and before I can do anything, they suddenly envelope me, and begin to tie me up, "And suddenly appeared before me..." Nirvana drops the microphone and vaults from the stage. Hitting me across the throat with a diving clothesline. As I lay on the ground I feel Nirvana begin to lock my arms for his hold "The Devil Lock." I struggle in the hold, as I can hear the people in the crowd buzzing. Brett comes running to my side, asking if I submit. I look up from the ground, and see Sheldon pick up the jar with the candle off the table and smash it over Nirvana's head. This causes and I immediately get up. Nirvana's little sidekicks begin to circle around me again, my hands still tied behind my back with the ribbon from earlier. I struggle to get me hands free as Sheldon stands in front of me between them and myself. The Henchwomen though do not attack, instead helping their leader up off the floor, and help escort him from the room, as he's still holding his head. Sheldon then helps untie me from my bonds, and the room is still buzzing. "God damn it. Can't I go anywhere?" I say as Sheldon unties me. "Come on Sara. How about I just take you back to Goodfellas?" Sheldon says putting his hands on my shoulders. I nod, just wanting to get out of the middle of the spotlight of the room, and we begin to walk out of the room. As we walk out into the Las Vegas night I apologize to Sheldon, "I'm sorry Sheldon. Again, the night is ruined because of me. But thanks for having my back." I tell him. "Sara, it's not your fault. I picked that we go there. Besides, who would've known some insane asshole would pull something like that?" Sheldon says trying to comfort me. I look behind us, I see Brett following us, with my title belt still in his hand. I grab the belt away from him, "Can we please just have some privacy? I ask him. "Sara, you know the answer to that question. Brett says. I sigh, "I'm getting so tired of this. I'm getting so tired of everyone knowing everything that's going on in my life. Maybe the next person who attacks me, I should just let them have the belt." I say to Sheldon. "Don't say that Sara. You worked so hard to get that belt. And you've worked so hard to keep it. Don't let all of this keep getting to you." Sheldon responds. "Yea, you're right. It just gets hard sometimes. I'm so sick of not being able to do anything because someone pops up. I'm sick of not being able to go home because the belt can't leave Las Vegas. Sure, I've gotten tougher since getting the belt. I've only tapped out once in my career. Never in sVo. I can't even remember who made me tap that first time." Sheldon chuckles, "He probably just got lucky." Sheldon says blushing. "Oh....thats right. HOSTILITY Extreme Title Match. Now I remember." I say giving Sheldon a playful elbow. Sheldon's voice gets shaky, "Yea...well uh...I just...." Sheldon struggles trying to say something. "It's OK. I don't even think about it anymore Shelly." I say taking his hand. ----- We get back to Goodfellas. And walk into the lobby. We both notice a large number of teens gathered around, wearing nice dresses and tuxedos. I raise an eyebrow and look to Sheldon, "Whats going on here?" I ask him. Sheldon shrugs his shoulders. He walks over to a group of girls who are gathered around in a circle together and asks them whats happening. After a couple insults from them, he sulks back, "Apparently some local High School is holding their Spring Dance in one of the ballrooms here today. Ugh I hated High School." Sheldon says looking down at the floor. "Yea...I hated High School too." I tell him, looking down at the floor. Sheldon looks up and raises an eyebrow, "Why would you hate High School? I thought all the beautiful girls loved High School?" Sheldon asks. I scoff, "Try being the best athlete in your school, and being a girl. Doesn't exactly make you popular. I played all the sports jock guys played to be popular, and was good at it. But You can't be a good wrestler, or football player and not have a penis apparently." I tell Sheldon. Sheldon laughs, "Try being the smartest guy in the school, a senior, and only 15. You think you had it tough?" Sheldon fires back. I smile at him, "I guess we were both a couple of 'freaks' in school huh?" "Yea...I guess that kinda explains why you're willing to tolerate being around me." Sheldon says, "I never would've believed a woman as beautiful as you would allow herself to be seen with a guy like me." "You really need to stop selling yourself short Shelly. You're a smart, kind, and talented man. You need to stop letting all that High School crap continue to let you down." I tell him. We look up, and see the massive group of teens all begin to walk down one of the corridors towards one of the Goodfellas ballrooms. I get an idea, "I don't suppose you went to your Senior Prom did you?" Sheldon laughs, "I was 15. I couldn't get a girl to even stop laughing long enough to ask one to go." "Everyone spread rumors about me being a lesbian, or that I was on the wrestling team because I would screw the entire team in the locker room." I admit to Sheldon, "Whatcha say we go make up for a lost experience?" Sheldon looks at me with a raised eyebrow, and I just take his hand and motion for him to come along. I notice that Brett isn't paying attention to us, and we just sort've slip our way into the ball room with a large group of High School students. I look at Sheldon, and we both laugh, finally having gotten away from Brett, and the whole Tap-Out Title thing. For the rest of the night, we crash a High School Dance. Yea, I know what you're thinking. Thats kind of weak. But what can I say? Anything where the two of us could be alone is a plus at this point... --- This week I find myself in a match against one of my team mates from Destiny. This whole Company thing, I have to admit, is something I have very little concern for. Jon Paige can want me on his team, but for me whats more important is retaining the sVo Tap-Out Title. Who has control of sVo is relative. And the Company being outside the ring for this match, that doesn't concern me much either. Except maybe Nightmare. But then again, El Locon has been pretty out spoken, so maybe he's taken their focus away from me and placed it all on his own shoulders. This whole Organized Chaos match thing, thats so far from my mind, I couldn't even tell you who's on what team for it. I know that's the purpose for the match, so sorry if I'm not helping in the hype. But when you're having to look in every direction in the present, it's hard to focus on the future. |
