War...war never changes. No matter how big, or small, the conflict is, there must always, inevitably, be a winner and a loser. There will always be casualties, there will always be twists and turns, and it is these turns, these surprises, that often determines the outcome of a war. And though it was not on the same scale as World War One and Two, the battle between Rey Rosario and Grimfamous at Showdown, had indeed been a war in and of itself. Two sides battling for the same thing, each side believing the prize to be rightfully theirs. They had taken each other to their respective limits, both men took as well as they gave, and in the end, it would be Rey Rosario coming out of the cage match victorious. Why didn't that win put Rosario in the main event of Vendetta? Nobody but Matt Anderson himself could answer that, and in the end, it will not really matter anyway. Because as with all other wars, the history of it, is written by the one who ends with the prize. And six months from now, nobody would even remember what Rosario had done. All they would remember, is that on Vendetta Jay Wildman faced Samuel Amos for the SVO World Heavyweight Title. That is what will go down in history, the how and why would fade away and disappear, and all there would be left, would be the cold hard fact that Rey Rosario walked out of Showdown....the winner but not the number one contender for the championship. Las Vegas, Nevada Silence. Not a voice or a sound could be heard, as Rey Rosario walked towards one of the exits of the Goodfellas Casino Arena. The building that was normally filled with people, with sound, with cheers and good times, had fallen completely silent. Most everyone had left the building by now, it had been several hours since Showdown had ended, and both fans and SVO superstars were long gone from the building. All except one man, who had intentionally stayed behind, hoping to avoid the mass of people who would be looking for autographs and pictures after the event. That man, was none other than Rey Rosario. The Goodfellas Casino Arena was home to the Sanctioned Violence Organization, and on this night, it had been home to a great personal success for him, as he redeem his loss from a couple of weeks. Dressed in black boots, black jeans, a black shirt and a black leather jacket, and with his bag slung over his shoulder, he walked with determination towards the exit, the sound of his heavy footsteps breaking the silence. As he reached the door, he pushed it open, walked outside and then stopped. He closed his eyes as the door slammed shut behind him, and he listened...sirens could be heard in the distance, as well as the occasional honking of car horns from aggressive drivers. The night air was cool and fresh and, as had been the case more often than not recently, he felt more at ease when he was outside, as if the fresh air somehow managed to soothen him, and chase away all of the tension, doubt and fear that would usually occupy his mind. But, as was also usually the case, the feeling was fleeting, the experience suddenly ripped away from him, as reality once again set in. This time, reality showed up in the form of a woman calling out his name... Woman:" Excuse me." Rey opened his eyes at the sound of the voice, and looked at the woman standing in front of him. She was wearing a pair of black leather pants and a mesh sleeved black top, that had a skull printed on the front. She was also wearing dark heavy makeup, especially around the eyes, and her dark hair completed the dark, gothic look. Rey:" What?" Woman:" I have something for you." She said, holding a piece of paper out towards Rey. Rey glanced at the paper and looked back at the woman. Rey:" What the hell is that?" He asked, as he put his bag on the ground in front of him. Woman:" It's a note. I was told to deliver it to you." Rey:" Told by who?" Woman:" I'm not supposed to say." Rey let out a frustrated laugh, as he was becoming more and more annoyed with the constant barrage of questions, secrecy and mystery that seemed to have dominated his life recently. Rey:" Either you tell me who it's from, or I'm walking away." He said, looking the woman right in the eyes. She never flinched though, as she just remained standing there, holding the note out towards Rey, never saying a word. Rey looked at the note, back at the woman and then finally back on the note again, before angrily ripping the note from the hand, his curiosity getting the better of him. He stared at the woman for a few seconds, before finally taking his eyes off her and looking down to read the note. The note was short and simple; it was an address. But it was not just any random address, it was an address that he knew all to well, a place of his past...it was his former home, the mansion he had lived in before everything had gone to hell. Puzzled, he took his eyes off the note and looked at the woman again. Rey:" What the hell is going on?" Woman:" Look at the back." Rey hesitantly looked back down on the piece of paper in his hands, and turned it over to look at the back of the note. There were more writing, though this part was even shorter than the first part. It was a date and a time." Rey:" You wanna explain this to me?" He said, looking back up at the mysterious woman standing in front of him. Woman:" I was told to tell you that, for your past to make sense to you again, you must understand where, why and how it all started." Rey scratched his unshaven chin, as he contemplated the situation. After several moments of hesitation, he finally put the note in his jacket pocket, before picking up his bag and walking right past the woman, without saying a word. As he walked, the sound of people talking and laughing caught his ears, and seconds later he passed by a group of four young men, and though he did not get a good look at any of them, from what he did see, he had them pegged as jocks. Their look, their clothes...and surely enough, their conversation seemed to revolve around sports. As they passed by each other, Rey stopped walking, turned around and watched as the young men continued walking and talking. He was not sure what it was, but he got a strange feeling as he passed them. After a few seconds though, he shrugged it off and started walking in the other direction again. Seconds later however, he stopped walking again as that feeling came over him again. He still did not know what it was, but this time, instead of simply shrugging it off as he did the first time, he instead opted to go back in the direction he came from, the same direction that the four young men went. He picked up speed with every step he took, and returned to find the woman that he had just spoken to, surrounded and menaced by the group of men he had just passed. He dropped his bag on the ground and marched towards them, hearing the taunts and insults the young men were throwing at the woman, all of which seemed to center around her being different from them. Young Man:" You know what guys? I think this freak needs to be taught a lesson!" Woman:" Fuck you!" She said, angrily, which only seemed to amuse the young men, as they continued their laughing and taunting. Rey:" HEY!" He yelled, with an anger that surprised even himself. He was not one to risk himself in any way for someone else, especially not a stranger. So why was he doing this? Rey:" You boys have a problem?" The four young men all looked at Rey, as they were still surrounding the woman. Young Man:" This is none of your business, just keep walking!" He said, in an overly arrogant tone of voice, as he turned his attention back to the woman, which seemed to put a smile on Rey's face, a sickly smile, but a smile nonetheless. Rey:" Maybe I'm making it my business." Surprised, the young man looked back at Rey. Young Man:" Oh yeah? Well maybe we'll teach you a lesson too!" Rey:" You can try." He said, dryly, as the young men slowly began turning their attention to Rey instead of the young woman. Rey:" Of course...if you do try, at least one of you will be leaving here with crushed balls..." He said, as his words seemed to cause the young men to hesitate. Rey:" So..." He said, with a smile. Rey:" Who's willing to make that sacrifice?" He asked, before looking each of the four young men in the eyes. Young Man:" Come on guys, these losers are not worth it." The young man said, after several moments of hesitation. The four men then slowly backed away and left the area, with Rey watching them all the way. Once he was sure they were gone, he turned around and looked at the woman. Rey:" You should probably get out of here." He said, almost emotionless, before turning around and walking away again, picking up his bag along the way. Why did he do this? Why did he feel compelled to help that woman? He did not even know her, and yet he risked getting his ass kicked by that group of thugs just to help her? None of it made any sense to him. As he kept walking, his thoughts were once again running a mile a minute, and going all over the place...so much so, that he did not hear the heavy footsteps of the four young men running up behind him. When he finally realized that they had followed him into the alley, it was too late, as all four of them jumped him, raining punches and kicks down on him. After doing his best to cover up, one punch caught him right square on the jaw, sending him down on the asphalt and making him easy prey, as the four men continued kicking him, connecting with pretty much every part of his body. It seemed like there were boots and fists everywhere, as he desperately tried to cover up and then BAM!...everything went black..... Later that night.... ??:" Hey! Fella! Are you okay?" His entire body was hurting. Pain was shooting through every single part of his body every time he breathed in and out...at least that meant he was still alive. ??:" Oh jeez! Somebody really worked you over good." As he slowly tried to open his eyes, even though things were still blurry, he could see the shape of a man looking down at him. He knew from the voice that it was a man. Man:" Look do not move, okay? I am going to call an ambulance." Rey:" No..." He said, as he struggled to get to a seated position. He crawled towards the wall and sat up, his back and head against the wall. He then took a deep breath. Man:" Look, no offense, but you look like crap. I really think you need an ambulance." Rey:" I'm fine." He said, as he whiped some blood off his lip with his right hand. Rey:" Or I will be." Man:" Still I really think..." Rey:" Just leave." Man:" I cannot just..." Rey:" JUST FUCK OFF!" He yelled, before immediately grabbing his head, as pain shot through it. Despite clearly not being comfortable just leaving Rey there alone, the man hesitantly walks away, leaving Rey sitting alone in the alley. Rey:" Fucking pricks..." He said, wiping some more blood from his face. Rey:" Didn't think they had it in them." He said, as he moved his head and cracked his neck. Rey:" Okay...to your feet." Rey tried to get back to his feet, but struggled to do so and, eventually, gave up the attempt. Rey:" Not yet..." He said to himself, as he leaned his head back against the wall to rest a bit more..... Los Angeles, California. Standing outside the big gate, looking at the mansion that once belonged to him, Rey checked his watch. Rey:" Five minutes to midnight." He said, before looking back at he giant mansion, hidden away behind the big gate. Rey was once again dressed all in black, which seemed to be a regular thing for him these days; black boots, black jeans, black shirt and black leather jacket. He had pretty much replaced all of his blue jeans with black ones, just as black shirts had replaced the majority of his other shirts. His face still bearing the scars from the assault, with several cuts and bruises, as well as two black eyes. All the lights were off in the mansion, no doubt the new owners were already sound asleep in their king size bed. It was not that long ago, that it was him sleeping in there, but standing there now, looking at the place that he once called his home...it seemed like that was a whole other life...and a whole other person. He put his hands into his jacket pockets, as he started walking back and forth in front of the gate. ??:" It's strange, isn't it?" A voice suddenly rang out behind him, breaking the silence of the night. Rey turned around and saw a woman walking towards him, and as the light from the street lights hit her face, he recognized her as the same woman he had met a few days earlier in Las Vegas. Rey:" What's that?" He asked, as the woman walked up to him and stopped right in front of him. A surprised look appeared on her face, as he got a look at Rey's battered and bruised face. Woman:" What happened to you?" Rey:" What's going on?" He asked, intentionally ignoring her question. Rey:" Another note?" Woman:" No." Rey:" So am I finally gonna meet this mystery person?" Woman:" Not yet." She said, as she shook her head. Rey sighed. Rey:" Look...I'm in no mood to play anymore of these games. So either come clean, or we end this thing right now." Woman:" You can walk away if you want to. But if you do, you will never find the answers you seek." Rey leaned in closer to the woman. Rey:" What the hell do you know?" Woman:" It is not what I know, it is what the person who sent me here knows." Rey:" Just cut the crap and tell me!" Woman:" I can't. That is not why I am here." Rey:" Great...why ARE you here then?" Woman:" To help you see...to help you understand." Rey:" Understand what???" He replied, angrily. Rey:" I am getting real sick and tired of this game! If you know something, you damn well better tell me! I feel like crap, every part of my body hurts, and I need to be ready for whatever comes my way at the next Showdown." The woman just looked at Rey. Rey:" What?" Woman:" You are not ready yet. You are too angry." She said, in a matter of fact tone of voice. Rey:" Not ready?" He scoffed. Rey:" I am standing here in the middle of the night, I'm damn ready!" Woman:" No. Maybe you never will be." She said, before going to leave, but as she did, Rey quickly grabbed her by the arms and held her back. She turned her head and looked at Rey. Woman:" Let go!" She said, and immediately Rey did so, much to his own surprise. He was still angry as hell, but for some reason, he followed her "order" without hesitation. The woman then walked away again, disappearing into the darkness of the night, leaving Rey standing alone and confused. After a few seconds, Rey shook his head and angrily kicked the gate to his former home, before storming off in the opposite direction... Rey Rosario's apartment Days had passed since his last encounter with the mysterious woman he had first met in Las Vegas following the Showdown event. Days of suspense, days of waiting to hear from her again, but he had heard nothing. Perhaps he really had blown it? What if she truly was able to help him find the answers, that he had been searching desperately for the past several weeks? She could have been his last chance to finally learn the truth, to finally understand what had happened, and to finally understand himself better, to understand why he was doing the things he was doing. And if he really had blown it with her, then this constant state of doubt and confusion, that he had been in for what seemed like forever, would be what the rest of his life would be like. But for now, he could not think about that. Showdown was fast approaching, and it was once again time to regain his focus on that, on his career, and on his match on Showdown against Alex Brooks. The scene opens up inside Rey Rosario's small, darkened apartment, as the camera is showing a shot of an empty chair. Seconds later, Rey Rosario walks from behind the camera and into the camera's view, as he takes a seat in the chair and looks into the camera. Rey:" So...Alex Brooks...I just wanna make one thing clear to you. You see, there is one thing you need to understand before our match this week on Showdown. People like you...you're what's wrong with the world! You're the reason why the world is as fucked up as it is! You run around, you beat your chest and you proudly want to be the big hero...and what happens? Someone else pays the price! That is always the story with people like you, isn't it Brooks? You talk a big game, but when it's time to pay the price, it's always someone else who pays it for you. If you ask me, it's a fucking wonder that others haven't killed you yet! You see, Brooks...people like you has to learn that your actions has consequences. People like you has to understand that you can't just go around and do whatever the hell you want to, and leave others to pay the bill for your crimes. The so called "little people" should not be the ones who has to pay for your actions! I mean, this kind of crap happens every single day, people like you do whatever the hell you want, and others pay the price...and those people who pay the price for bastards like you? I see those people on the street every single night...well most of them anyway, the ones that you haven't gotten killed yet!" Rey pauses shortly. Rey:" It is SO easy to be the big hero, when you don't have to face the consequences of your own actions. But the thing about heroes, Alex, is that they get other people killed. And while the police may be willing to let you get away with it, I know for a fact that there are others who are less...inclined...to do so. You know what I have noticed when I walk to the ring? Or when I'm in the ring? I have noticed all of these people, sitting around in the arena, holding up their little signs with the words "End The Company" on them...have faith..." He laughs. Rey:" That's your thing, isn't it Alex? Have faith? Have faith in what? In destroying The Company?...In you? It seems to me that there's alot of hype about you, but you can't deliver when it really counts!" He pauses again. Rey:" But yeah...this week on Showdown, I will face you and I won't forget how after you made a campaign to end The Company and I willingly came along you then left me and the rest of the boys hanging. But now that you're back I WILL punish you for your actions...why? Because you deserve it, Brooks! But make no mistake about it Brooks, you won't have any excuses after I beat you into a bloody pulp. But you know what? This isn't about excuses...this isn't even about the match, no what this is about, is revenge for leaving SVO hanging....and justice for the rest of that locker room!" With that, Rey gets to his feet and walks past the camera, and seconds later everything goes black, as the camera is turned off. |
