"Sunday, January 16th, 2011 - 9:48 pm - Goodfellas Casino Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada"

"Are you satisfied now?"

A condescending comment... how predictable. I glare back at the speaker, 'Master' Akira Kimura. My former mentor, my unwilling manager - and quite a useless one at that. He stands in the doorway to my private locker room, backstage at Goodfellas Casino Arena. I remain seated on the bench in the middle of the room, gathering my possessions into the large duffel bag sitting on the bench beside me.

"No," I respond flatly, "But this is a start."

"I would have thought a true gold-whore like yourself would be happy with anything shiny - you sold out your own brother for the chance to IMPERSONATE a World Champion - I'm surprised they didn't wrap a piece of dog shit in aluminum foil and give that to you... I'm sure you would have been thrilled," he snarls at me, I relish in his frustration at our forced proximity as I zip up the bag.

"Such language, Master," I grin back at him, enjoying the predictable squirm he does every time I call him that, "But like I said, while it is a start, it is still not what I'm after... what I'm deserving of.... no... what I am destined for. The sVo World Heavyweight Championship."

He raises an eyebrow at me, unconvinced and suddenly I find myself beginning to become frustrated at his lack of fear or respect for me.

"I won't lie to you, Ryuu," he begins to explain in that calm, patronizing tone that gnaws through me, "You are perfectly capable of becoming a World Champion of your own accord. The only thing which holds you back... is you. Instead of focusing on improving yourself - making yourself a more well-rounded fighter - you spend your time making deals, selling your soul and obsessing over and envying the success of others."

I scoff, a stifled indignant chuckle loaded with disdain.

"Don't presume you know or understand me in any way," I offer in defense, standing to make my exit, grabbing my duffel bag in one hand and the scuffed sVo TapOut Title in the other.

"But I do know you, Ryuu," he continues, I clench my jaw, "I thought I didn't, but I've figured it all out. You're the same old Ryuu as ever, just now your flaws outweigh your strengths. So while you could win the sVo World Heavyweight Championship - you never will as long as you let jealously towards your brother rule you."

I want to argue, to yell back at him and shut his fossilizing mouth - but I am without words. Rage consumes me as he speaks, paralyzing me.

Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to be done yet and he continues, "You have to accept that what Akumu achieved here was something special - why don't you try being happy for what your brother has achieved instead of trying to erase history?"

"No," is all I can squeeze out.

I barge past the old man into the corridor.

"Where do you think you're going?" he calls after me.

"Back to my room," I reply without slowing or turning around, "I'm off the clock."

He runs after me, I quicken my pace but he catches up anyway, however, I am walking too fast for him so he is forced to jog along beside me.

"No you're not," he smiles obnoxiously as he replies, "You wanted me to manage you, so I did - I've organized a quick interview to talk about your title win and future plans - better get back to work, 'champ'."

"Somehow I don't see that happening," I snap back at him, still not slowing.

The old man raises his hands defensively, "Hey, YOU said that I wasn't doing enough to help or promote your career - and now here you are as the sVo TapOut Champion and telling me that you don't want to do an interview to help raise your profile around here. It's good exposure."

"Look, I'm going back to my room and that's that, I'm done for the night," I reply, irritated.

"Well, whether or not you're going to do this interview, don't forget: as long as you hold that title, you are never 'done for the night'," he says smugly.

I scoff, "Are you kidding me? After that dominant performance to capture this title, who would be crazy enough to challenge me for it? Who do you think is going to show up somewhere in these hallways and try to get me to tap out? Cody Williams? El Locon? Come on - no one is that stupid!"

"You know that there will always be people trying to catch you off guard taking advantage of that 24/7 rule," he says matter-of-factly, I switch off as I see a shadowy figure watching me from further down the hallway, "Didn't you yourself once try to ambush a now former TapOut Champion for the title?"

"Shut up," I snap at him, starting towards the shadowy figure, first at a fast walk, quickly building into a run.

At first he, whoever he is, doesn't move. However as soon as I am within a few feet he turns and sprints quickly down the hallway and vanishes down an adjoining corridor to the left. I chase as quickly as I can but whoever this is is fast, much quicker than myself and he certainly seems to know his way around here.

I crash hard into a wall as my target/stalker takes a hard right before pushing off and relentlessly chasing him once more. Every few corridors I lose sight of him, only to catch a brief glimpse as he turns down another one.

I chase the figure for what feels like a few dozen corridors before I completely lose track of him. I slow to a fast walk, my eyes darting around, looking for any sign of movement. As I turn the next corner I am met by a sight which certainly catches me off-guard - Master Kimura standing next to Tamara Boyd - both grinning broadly, Tamara armed with a microphone. I look around, confused.

"Ah good - I knew you'd see things logically and show up - let's get started," Kimura says chirpily.

"Where did he go?" I growl.

They both stare at me blankly.

"Did I stutter? Where did he go?" the intensity in my voice grows exceptionally fast.

"It's just the three of us I'm afraid," Kimura responds.

I move close to him, inspecting his face, searching for a clue but it is no good. He has his best poker face on and offers nothing but what I am assuming is false innocence.

"So you're meaning to tell me that this mystery guy who has been sticking his nose in my business for the past few weeks shows up and randomly leads me to you two?" I ask, incredulous, "Somehow I find that a little far fetched..."

"I don't know what to tell you, Ryuu," Kimura shrugs in response.

"Since you're here anyway would you mind answering some questions?" says Tamara, a broad grin on her face.

"Fine," I shoot back, my eyes still darting around, my legs tensed and ready to run at the first sign of him.

"Good," Tamara smiles in response, "So, Nightmare, firstly, congratulations on your win tonight - you must be thrilled at your first 'legitimate' sVo gold."

"Mmhmm, yeah, thrilled," I say, barely listening and instead continuing to survey the scene.

"Do you feel that you'll be able to successfully retain that title with the 24/7 rule in effect? Samuel Amos was the most successful TapOut Champion to date - Nathan Paradine and Asesino however, both succumbed to that title's unique stipulation," she asks.

"I can assure you, no one to hold this title yet has been up to my calibre - the rest of the roster would have to be crazy to even think that they can take this from me, in the ring or out," I say, still distracted.

"Next week sVo will be holding 'Roulette Night' where any match is possible... any dream matches for you?" Tamara asks, drawing a half-smile from me.

"Here we go..." Kimura cuts in, drawing a glare from me.

"Myself and Jay Wildman for the World Title," I add.

"What a shocker!" the old man quips, staring at me defiantly and causing me to clench my jaw in anger.

"Many are calling your match with Cody Williams tonight an early Match of the Year candidate - is this any surprise to you?" she continues.

"Is it a surprise to me that Cody Williams is capable of a Match of the Year nomination? Absolutely. But when he's in there with someone like me I guess it's not so far-fetched," I grin, slightly more drawn into this line of questioningly, "Let's not forget which match won Match of the Year 2010 - myself destroying Night in the Glass Net Deathmatch..."

I can't help but let my grin grow into a fully-fledged smile as both of their expressions sour.

"Many also feel that without Colt Cooper and DJ's interventions tonight Cody Williams would have walked away with the championship still around his waist," the barbs are clear in her voice.

"Ouch," I reply dryly.

"Do you feel that in a fair matchup with Williams you would have walked away victorious?" she presses onwards.

"I have to remind you, Tamara, that what happened tonight was within the rules of the championship and was therefore a 'fair matchup'," I answer stoically, resuming my visual search of the surrounding hallways for movement.

"In the last few weeks you've had problems out of the ring with a mysterious figure who has been attacking you from the shadows and preventing... various attacks you were intending..." she begins, only for me to cut her off.

"What do you know about him?" my attention is now, for the first time, completely on the interview in progress.

"Just what's been on Showdown and caught on segments!" she backtracks urgently, but it is too late - she has revealed too much.

"No - cut the bullshit!" I advance on them, both backing away from me as I do, "You both know what's going on here. I saw that guy tonight! Just before. I was talking to Kimura and then I saw him - down the hallway. I chased after him and he lead me here to this fucking ridiculous excuse for an 'interview' that I didn't even want to come to..."

My eyes move to the cowering old man.

"... this is just like something you would plan!" I exclaim, drawing a frantic shaking of his head, "Yes! It is! You and... whoever the fuck it is are in on this together. You knew how much I hate interviews, so you set this whole thing up and arranged for them to lead me here."

"You're losing your mind, Ryuu," Kimura says, "You're getting paranoid..."

"Think about how elaborate and... frankly ridiculous that sounds," Tamara adds.

As much as I hate to admit it... it does seem a bit much.

Not wanting to relent to these two, however, I simply sneer at them.

"This isn't over - I'm going to find out exactly what the fuck is going on around here," I say.

Smirking at them I turn, dragging my newly won sVo TapOut Title haphazardly in my right hand, its already scratched and tarnished gold plates dragging along the ground as I strut off down the hallway.

I haven't gone far before I hear a voice.

"Marco."

And before I can turn to respond I am knocked to the ground as an arm reaches around my throat...
