The Poker Room. I had seen it for the first time last Sunday leaving Goodfellas after my loss to Chris Bond. I was too pissed off after the loss to pay it any attention, but I vowed that I was going to come back. I should have beaten him. I had him right where I wanted, but I couldn’t come through. Anyways back to poker. If there is anything in this world that I am sure of it is my ability to play poker. So here I am standing on the outside of the room looking in. There are twenty or so tables with half in use. I look around the room from the doorway trying to decide on which table I wanted to crash. I move my eyes constantly from table to table watching the body movement of the players. In particular I am looking to see which table has the most players that move and fidget. That tends to be the table where the most money can be made because the players give telltale signs about their card. Table five. Yes, table five is where I will be playing. Eight players at the table who all can’t sit still and there are two seats left. Perfect! I make my move and enter the poker room heading straight to the cashier’s booth. As I get to the booth a man carrying a good three hundred and fifty pounds adorned with a polyester suit slides in at the last second to beat me to the booth. Reaching deep into his pants pocket, his hands that resemble bear claws, pull out two rolls of money bound together with a rubber band. He slams them down on the counter forcing the beautiful brunette to unroll the money before she can count it. The guy reminds me of none other than Christopher St. James with the way he carries himself……..a pompous asshole. I can’t wait to get my hands around his throat on Sunday. Five thousand dollars later the cashier hands the man an array of chips equaling the five thousand. With Mr. Polyester finally getting out of the way I pull out my thousand dollars and hand it to the cashier making sure to brush her hand with mine. Seconds later I too have my array of chips and eagerly make my way to table five where I find Mr. Polyester. I take the last seat placing my chips on the table as I sit down. The first few hands sucked so I folded them. The key to poker is patience. You just got to be patient and wait for some good cards and then play them. If you rush and try to force things you will soon be out of money. While I wait out for some good cards a sexy waitress comes to the table asking if anyone wants drinks and I order a Corona. Damn! Vegas has the sexiest women I have ever seen! Pocket eights. I finally got a good hand to play. I’m the big blind so I am last to act. I watch the players as some fold and some call. Seeing this I know that I will raise. Wait! The small blind just raised in front of me. The blind is a hundred and he raised two hundred to make it three to go. This is an easy call for me so I toss my chips in. After the raise only one other player stays in and that just happens to be Mr. Polyester. Time for the flop…. Jack of spades, eight of diamonds, four of hearts. Trip eights! Now we are talking! The key now is to hold my emotions in and not tip off the other two. The small blind checks which I was expecting him to raise. I’m thinking he didn’t catch what he needed so I’m going to raise two hundred. Mr. Polyester calls and the small blind folds. Time for the turn…. Ace of clubs. No help to me, but I still got trip eights and I’m going to play them hard so I raise two hundred more. Mr. Polyester shifts in his seat and I just know that I pushed him against a wall. He scratches his head as he ponders what to do. He fiddles with his chips before finally calling my bet. Time for the river…. Four of spades. Full house! Now its time to figure out the best strategy. Should I bet? Or should I check and see if he bets then re-raise him………check. Mr. Polyester gives me a quick glance as if to say “what are you up to?”. He falls into my trap and bets three hundred. Now I only have five hundred left so I’m going to push. “All-in.” I announce staring at Mr. Polyester while doing so. “Call.” He says coolly. Damn! I wasn’t expecting him to call so fast. I mean it was only another two hundred, but I was expecting him to at least think about it for a little bit. But it doesn’t matter because I got the full house, no way he is beating me. “Flip’em” announces the dealer. I turnover my pocket eights to reveal my full house. I look at Mr. Polyester to watch his expression but he just smirks. He takes a quick glance at me before turning over his cards. Four of a kind. Nooooooooo!! He had pocket fours and hit his fourth on the river!! I had him beat until the river!! I drop my head as he lets out a chuckle and rakes in his chips with his bear claws. I get up from the table and as I am walking back into the main floor of the casino I realize the money I just lost was all I had until payday which isn’t until next Friday. At this realization my heart starts to beat a little faster and my chest starts to contract…. I have no money to send to my precious Nicole. This whole father thing is tough. I’m sorry babygirl.
