The journey continues..... The wind howled fiercely around Raven, morbidly reminding him of a slowly dying animal. A single light shone from across the street, but it wasn't enough to expel the darkness within which Raven currently stood; he felt at home...at peace...in spite of the fact the pains in his stomach were slowly becoming frequent again. Resisting the urge to clutch his stomach and reveal his pain, he directed his eyes up at the moon which hung in a crescent overhead. His ears, however, were directed intently across the street. 'You see, I can make this more personal than Manuel can imagine. I can make this even worse than it already is. You see, if I wanted to, Manuel, I could take this building down. You see, right now I'm more dangerous than I've ever been.' The voice was that of Chris Wrestling, who was currently stood outside of the XWF headquarters. It had been just over a couple of days since they had encountered DVD and Salvation had taken great lengths seeking DVD, whom he had referred to as "the next target". They had been to his own gym but had just missed him both times. Salvation, himself, was stood a little way up the street, he was on the phone to someone but was out of earshot. Raven's eyes fell back to DVD who was now mumbling something equally inaudible, pointing to the trunk of the car he had arrived in as he did so. Many images flashed before his eyes as he witnessed this action; his overactive imagination running even more overactive than usual. His lips pulled back into even more of a smirk with every picture. He envisioned Limp sleeping in a makeshift bed of blankets. He pictured the body of Melanie Benson laying beaten and bloodied, her face eternally locked in the contorted grimace of pain which had been spread upon it the moment DVD had lost all control and sought retribution for her betrayal. He imagined an empty space beside her, one left for Manuel A. Diaria, himself. Little did he know, he wasn’t far off and DVD wasn’t lying: he had become dangerous. ‘So why didn’t you pick his team?’ Salvation queried, as his booted feet pounded the concrete sidewalk. Before Raven could give an answer, more loud footsteps greeted the ears of both watching men. They both glanced back across the deserted road to see a security guard. ‘You’re not supposed to be here,’ he said, attempting to be forceful. Raven saw the spark appear in DVD's eye, even from across the road. It was as bright and visible as any lighthouse beam. A shiver ran up his spine, but a pleasurable one that used to always come moments before he was about to enact, or watch, some violence. He watched the conversation between the two men with avid fascination, fascination which grew infinitely as DVD leapt like a wolf and dropped the innocent guard to the ground with his hand around his throat. Raven couldn’t hear what DVD was shouting at the man beneath him but he could see the venom with which it was spoken. His eyes grew wider, and the smirk from before returned, as DVD stood up, dusted himself down and headed back towards the car. Raven was eager to see what was in the trunk. The question was still on the front of Salvation’s mind, but he held back repeating it, instead taking his own great interest in the way Raven was watching DVD. And the way Raven’s smile dropped into an angry scowl as DVD ignored the trunk and went straight into the car and sped off into the night. Raven then spoke, giving Salvation no need to repeat the question, ’I didn’t join his team because I didn’t think he’d have what it takes to get things done at XWF.’ Raven paused, watching the guard getting completely to his feet. ‘And having seen that, have you changed your mind?’ Salvation asked. ‘No!’ Raven answered, actually taking Salvation by surprise. He caught even Salvation even more by surprise as he stepped straight off the curb and marched across the road with purpose, the disappointment spurring him on. The iron bar was still nestled safely hidden up his sleeve, Raven once again became completely aware of it and embraced it’s coldness. The only other thing he was aware of was the guard who was now staggering back towards the entrance of the building, rubbing his throat. ‘No,’ Raven repeated to himself as he made it halfway across the road. He spoke in barely a mutter. ‘I don’t think DVD has what it takes. He reached the other side of the street and stepped up onto the sidewalk as a red car, glistening brilliantly in the singular light pouring from the building’s one illuminated window, flew passed, narrowly missing him. Raven didn’t even notice in the slightest, however, his focus straight ahead. ‘I used to like you, DVD. Even more than that, I used to respect you. You were a monster. A beast. A force to be reckoned with. I see traces of that, like when you savagely beat David 14, but you are not even a shadow of your former self.’ Raven was moving slowly but was still gaining on the guard. Salvation was now the one watching with avid fascination and surprise at the reaction this particular jaunt was having on Raven. ‘I really hope you prove me wrong at Showdown and the man I encounter in that ring is the unstoppable force I used to admire. But I highly doubt it because this Sunday nothing will stop me from winning the Psyko Stevo Memorial Tournament. I’m not going to say your old and worn like has become cliché amongst other roster members, but you are slowly passing your prime. In the old days, when a dog passed his prime, a man would take him out back and put an end to him. I think that time is coming for you, very soon. Manuel should be quivering in fear at the mere mention of your name or in the knowledge that you are in the building. But I don’t think he does. You’ve battled for a lifetime and yet you have seemingly been unable to put an end to him once and for all, and in this past months, you seemed to have been unable to even get your hands on him. Since I’ve returned, I have busted Manuel over the head twice, split him open, and made him bleed.’ Raven flicked his wrist and felt the cold iron bar slip into his clenched fist. ‘Much like this.’ Raven swung the bar and connected it against the side of the guard’s head. He didn’t use his full strength, so it wasn’t enough to knock him out, but it was more than enough to once again knock him back to the ground. For the second time in the last ten minutes, the guard once again looked up, dazed and panicked over someone looming above him. Raven’s eyes were cold and his dark eyes glistened in the light from the building. In that moment, Raven could almost feel the cloak of his old self slip back over him. 'What did he say to you?' 'Who?' The guard answered, groggily. 'The man who just left. DVD?' Raven heard the bleep of a car's horn from behind him, followed by the echo of Salvation's footsteps as he crossed the street. He stopped directly behind Raven, but he kept his gaze directed upon the guard. 'He wanted to deliver a message.' 'To Manuel A. Diaria?' The guard nodded. 'What was the message?' The guard thought for a moment, his head was swimming all over the place and thoughts didn't come easily. 'That when the building opens tomorrow he'll be coming for Manuel,' he eventually said, and then added: 'That he is going to be everywhere, like the wind, ready to pop up and raise hell at will. That things are only going to get worse.' Raven smirked. Maybe DVD wasn't completely ready to be put out to pasture just yet. Still, one part of this situation disappointed him. 'Are you working tomorrow?' The guard nodded again. 'Well, if you see DVD again, maybe you can give him a message from me. Tell him that he may not quite be the useless dog quite yet. But, if he fails in his attempts on Manuel A. Diaria, that I will be the trigger that ends him and I will be the one that does what he fails.' Raven paused. 'Do you think you will be able to remember that, especially with your other message?' The guard nodded for a final time. 'I hope so,' Raven said, and followed up his words with another long flick of the wrist. This time the iron bar connected at full force with the man's head, knocking him out cold. Raven stood up and grabbed the unconscious man by the angle and began dragging him to the entrance. His stomach had begun it's latest round of spasms but he ignored it as best he could. 'Never use a messenger, DVD,' Raven mumbled to himself, vocalising his disappointment, as he reached the door, 'make him the message!!' He dropped the man's foot, propped him against the door, and turned back to Salvation. He was applauding slowly but loudly as Raven returned the iron bar to it's previous hiding place. 'Does that mean you are convinced?' 'Not quite. We still have some major issues to work through.' Raven scowled. 'Such as?' Salvation smirked as the wind once again gusted around him, blowing his jet-black hair away from his pale face. 'You'll see. Shall we be going?' He asked, pointing to his left. Raven didn't say another word. He merely walked back to Salvation and passed him. The moment he did, the pain gripped his stomach. Sure it was out of sight of Salvation, his hand flew under his black jacket to the area of pain as both men walked down the darkened street. |
