When we last left Bad Religion, they were getting lessons in cool ready for the recording of their debut single. Today we find them at the studio, downtown in Vegas, ready to record their hopeful number one hit... [The scene fades in on Steven Steele, Anthony Moretti and Zero standing in a small, cluttered lobby, speaking to producer and musical genius Oscar Fields about the song they will be recording today] Moretti - So, everything is set? Oscar - Uh, sure. All we need are your vocals, and then I'll spend a few weeks mixing, then we'll release. Okay? Moretti - Righto. Sounds good. Oscar - So, heres the lineup I got for you. I got Slash over there on guitar- [Oscar points to the corner, where legendary guitarist Slash nods at them, before casually lighting up a cigarette hanging out of his mouth] Oscar - I have Jimmy Chamberlin on drums- [Chamberlin looks up from the kit and nods at the three men. Zero nearly wets himself at the idea of meeting one of his favourite musicians] Oscar - I got Flea on bass, and last but not least I have Mick Mars on rythm guitar. You got that? [In another corner, Mars and Flea are conversing quietly. They both look over, and Flea gives the three men a thumbs up] Zero - Wow, you uh, you certainly got us a good band. Oscar - Yeah, Donny said you guys were the most unhip people he'd ever met, he said you were beyond help. So, I decided to pull out all the stops to make sure you guys are success. You now have the star power thanks to these guys, now all you have to do is sing a decent vocal and we'll be done. Now, about the song, I have- Moretti - I have lyrics! [Moretti proudly pulls a crumpled sheet of paper out of his suit and hands it to Oscar. Oscar reads over it and laughs] Oscar - "I want your love like a hot bowl of soup"... "Don't worry baby, we'll make this work, or I'll powerslam you..." Haha, who wrote this crap? [Moretti sudenly blushes, and snatches the song out of Oscar's hands] Moretti - Uh, I don't know. I found them on the net. Oscar - Anyway, the label doesn't want you guys recording an original, wrestling apparantely has a stigma attached to it that could prove negative for sales, so instead you'll be doing a cover of an old song... [Oscar walks oiver to the crowded desk and pulls up a few papers with lyrics printed on them] Oscar - You'll be singing "All Out Of Love", by Air Supply, and we'll me making it harder and grungier, a real rock sound. Steele - Screw this you guys. I'm out. There is no way I'm singing Air Supply. Nuh-uh. [Zero and Moretti shrug and look at each other] Moretti - Fine we'll both do it. The song was originally only sung by two men anyway. Zero - Thanks for helping us out, Steven Oscar - Yeah yeah, get over your bitchy feelings. Now, Slash and the guys have already laid down their tracks, all I need now are vocals from you two, okay? Get in the studio, everything is set up, all you gotta do is read the lyrics off the sheet. [Oscar hands the papers to Zero and Moretti, who read them excitedly] Moretti - We're going to be famous Zero! Zero - Haha, let's go do this! [Both men walk out of the lobby, stepping into another, smaller room. Oscar and Steele follow, and find both men marvelling at various technical doo-dahs] Zero - Wow, what is this!? Oscar - Don't touch the desk! [Too late. Zero begins turning knobs and dials excitedly, and Oscar roughly shoves him away] Oscar - Agh! Do you know how long that'l take me to fix!? Zero - Whoa, sorry man. I had no idea, I just- Oscar - Look. Nevermind. You see that door there? You and Anthony just walk through and get ready to record okay? [Zero shrugs, and both men walk out of the room into an even smaller both, where two mics have been set up. Both men excitedly slide headphones over their ears, and look up. A large glass window is bult into the wall, and through it they can see Steven and Oscar twiddling the knobs and dials back into place on the desk. Oscar holds three fingers up, and begins to count down. Three. Two One. He gestures franctically that they can begin to sing] Moretti: I'm lying alone with my head on the phone Thinking of you till it hurts I know you hurt too but what else can we do Tormented and torn apart I wish I could carry your smile and my heart For times when my life feels so low It would make me believe what tomorrow could bring When today doesn't really know, doesn't really know Moretti and Zero: I 'm all out of love, I'm so lost without you I know you were right believing for so long I 'm all out of love, what am I without you I can't be too late to say that I was so wrong Zero: I want you to come back and carry me home Away from this long lonely nights I'm reaching for you, are you feeling it too Does the feeling seem oh so right And what would you say if I called on you now And said that I can't hold on There's no easy way, it gets harder each day Please love me or I'll be gone, I'll be gone Moretti and Zero: I 'm all out of love, I'm so lost without you I know you were right believing for so long I 'm all out of love, what am I without you I can't be too late to say that I was so wrong Zero: Oh, what are you thinking of? What are you thinking of? Oh, what are you thinking of? What are you thinking of? Moretti and Zero: I 'm all out of love, I'm so lost without you I know you were right believing for so long I 'm all out of love, what am I without you I can't be too late to say that I was so wrong I 'm all out of love, I'm so lost without you I know you were right believing for so long I 'm all out of love, what am I without you I can't be too late to say that I was so wrong I 'm all out of love, I'm so lost without you I know you were right believing for so long I 'm all out of love, what am I without you I can't be too late to say that I was so wrong [Both men finally stop singing, and in the studio booth Oscar gestures to them both. He mouths the words "Get in here!", and Zero and Moretti oblige] Oscar - Okay. You guys didn't completely suck, and whatever crappiness you guys did pour out can be fixed thanks to studio magic. So then, the song will be ready soon. Moretti - Thank you Mr. Fields, I really can't- Oscar - Whatever. Just get out. [Suddenly, Oscar's phone begins to ring. He answers the call, ignoring Moretti and his men] Oscar - Hello? Wait, what did you just say? Weezer are releasing a Rainbow album? When didt his happen? Why wasn't I informed!? [Moretti, Steele and Zero all look at each other and shrug. They walk out of the studio, out of the lobby, and out onto the streets of Las Vegas] Moretti - So, how do you think the song will do? Zero - It'll be a huge hit, boss. Steele - Yeah, you guys sounded great. Moretti - Really? My voice wasn't, well, y'know? Zero - Nah, it was great? Moretti - You sure? Steele - It was great. It's gonna be a huge hit with the ladies. Moretti - Haha, of course it will be, it's me your talking about... [The scene fades out still showing all three men arguing about how good Moretti's voice sounded. Was the song a hit? I guess we'll find out next week!] |
