[After his meaningful experience at the hotel, the only thing JD wants to do is talk to Sean and Kristi, but not in that specific order. The number one thing on his mind is his daughter. His friend’s bipolar disorder or whatever it is can wait for the mean time. The thought of his only child having cancer or a cancerous cell in her year old body isn’t what he wants to think about.]

[He passes by his apartment in the cab. He looks in the parking lot and doesn’t see Sean’s Hummer; he tells the cabbie to let him out there. He goes in and see’s if there are any messages on the machine or any numbers on the caller id that he needs to call back. After that he gathers all his things together and takes them into the bathroom so he can get ready.]

[He enters the bathroom and begins to get cleaned off. He washes his face, shaves and gets in the shower. Once he’s done in the shower he dry’s off and puts on his boxers. He goes back over to the sink and gets his toothbrush and toothpaste and brushes his slimy feeling teeth. He puts on his pressed black pants, thin black sock, gator shoes, Old Spice deodorant, and his pink button up shirt. He squirts on a bit of Banana Republic’s Cordovan and buttons his shirt up. He slips on his black tie, tying it into a correct knot and pulls his jacket off the hanger tossing over his shoulder.]

[Dress to impress, that’s the way he’s been for the past few years, if he doesn’t look better than good, he won’t go anywhere important.]

[With him mind a blur he decides to drive on down to Vicki’s house to see if they’ve heard anything yet. He knows he shouldn’t be driving with his mind so cluttered, but that’s what helps to calm him down at times, I hope it works this time.]

[The nervous twitch in his hand can tell the story of his urgency. He taps the steering wheel with his fingers to the beat of the music, but it gradually starts getting more repetitive and offbeat with the music.]

“Let’s see, let’s see.”

[He says as he goes under a red light looking to turn left. He continues to tap on the steering wheel.]

“If I go this way I’ll hit the traffic coming from work, but if I go this way I’ll his school traffic.”

[He says to himself under his breath as he looked frantically trying to decide.]

Choices, too many choices, if I go left I’ll go wrong. If I go right I’ll go wrong and if I go straight I’ll wreck. Why so many choices?

[The faint sound of his cell phone ringing begins.]

“Where’d I put that phone?”

[He asks himself as he looks in the passenger seat.]

It’s not there, where is it? Did I leave it at…?

[It rings again and he remembers where he put it. Quickly he sticks his hand in his jacket and pulls the phone from his pocket. He answers it.]

“Hello.”

[He listens to the person on the other end.]

“Yeah this is JD.”

[He listens again.]

“What do you mean? Is that good or bad?”

[He listens with a close grip on the phone. His fingers have turned a brighter shade of pink and have a sort of whitish outline between his fingers.]

“Oh god…uh…um…where are you all now?’

[He nods his head as the other person on the phone tells him where they are.]

“Okay, I was already on my way there, so I’ll be there in a few minutes. Is your brother over there with you?”

[He asks with unknowingness to his voice.]

“Alright, um…tell Sean it’s alright and we’ll talk about it later.”

[The person on the phone questions his words and makes JD’s temper rise.]

“Kristi! Just tell him what I said! I’m not in a good mood right now and I don’t plan on…”

[He pauses.]

“I’m sorry; this is just a hard thing to deal with right now. I’m nervous, tense and mad at the world all in one. I’m just…ah…never mind, I’ll tell you when I get there.”

[He says calmly as he’s trying to keep his temper from rising above boiling point.]

“Alright, I love you too and tell my little angel I love her too.”

[He hangs up the phone and tosses it into the passenger seat.]

“I just can’t believe this; this surgery stuff could be the death of me.”

[He says aloud with a slight whimper as he drives on to Vicki’s house.]

[Kristi sits outside talking on the porch talking to JD. Her humbleness is defining to everyone around her. How could she be so humble after them receiving the news that her daughter’s lung cancer has been diagnosed to be malignant? They’ve set up an appointment to find out if her cancer is confined to one spot or if it’s going to keep on spreading.]

[As Kristi gets off the phone Seam comes over to her. His face was pale like he just swallowed chewing tobacco. He looks at her shutting his eyes first as he put his hand on her shoulder. This almost looked like Sean was praying for her, but was he?]

“What are you doing?” Kristi asks with haste.

“Who me, I’m just coming to see how you’re doing.” Sean answers.

[Silence]

“Well…just…just don’t sneak up on me. I’m not in any kind of mood to be surprised.” Kristi responds to him with a slight hesitation.

“Sorry sis, I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable. I was only checking on you. I was trying to see if you were alright.” Sean responds.

[The silence is awkward for Sean. He’s used to his sister talking so much that he can’t get a word in otherwise. All the ideas that he’s had about the cancerous material in his niece could come true or they could all be taken care of soon.]

“It’s okay; I just don’t know what I’m going to do without my baby, if something should happen to go wrong.” She releases out her frustration with a loud and long ‘ugh’. “I just don’t even want to think about what life would be like without her. She’s a major part of me now. She’s the best thing that could ever happen to me.” She says with a sob.

[Kristi begins to shed tears. Sean hugs her and whispers in her ear that he loves her.]

“Have you had a chance to talk to JD about anything that’s going on?” Sean asks with concern.

[She pulls away from him, not with a bad attitude like she’s mad, but more of a ‘don’t touch me’ mentality to it.]

“I called him. That’s who I was talking to when you came out here. He said he’s on his way.” She relays.

[Sean only nods his head.]

“Oh yeah, I was supposed to tell you it’s going to be alright and we’ll talk about it later.” She mentions.

[An oblivious face comes over Sean. His mind quickly questions what she’s said.]

It’s alright and we’ll talk about it later? What was this? Was JD talking about our situation, well my situation? Was he talking about Victoria? What was it that he’s talking about? I wonder if she knows something else that I don’t know, maybe.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Sean asks.

[Kristi shrugs her shoulders.]

“I’m not sure. He didn’t really say anything to me about it. That’s all he said.” She implies to Sean.

“Oh, I was just wondering.” Sean replies.

[He turns his back to Kristi and closes his eyes. In his mind he ramble’s things off only to cause him more and more anxiety. He slightly shakes his head no and takes in a deep breath. He exhales with a slight cough that catches the attention of Kristi.]

“You’re not getting a cold are you?” She asks.

“Oh, no…” He says as he turns around. “I just had some phlegm come loose, so I had to cough.”

The only good thing is that he didn’t say anything to Kristi before I can, but I doubt I’m going to. I feel differently about thing daily, so maybe I’m just one kind of crazy. I’m just a normal person looking for some real love and affection, nah that’s not me. I’m only in it to hit it.

“What all did you tell him?” Sean asks.

“That we’re still looking through a filthy window on things.” She assures Sean.

A filthy window, was she serious? Lesser things have ruined marriages. This was a real bow to this family. I know I’m not ready to say goodbye to my niece. I’m ready to play with her for day on end. I’m not ready to stop the fighting that her tiny bodies doing and I won’t let JD or Kristi tell me otherwise.

“I don’t think that’s the right way to put it. To me it sounds like this is something simple and nothing at all. I don’t think that’s how you should be looking at things right now.” Sean unleashes on Kristi.

[Kristi’s stunned to say the least. Her brothers never talked to her like that in his life, it’s a much acquired feeling. It’s almost like her heart stops or skips some beats for a few seconds.]

“Sean, I’m sorry, it wasn’t meant to sound like that. I didn’t know where he was or what he was doing so I didn’t want to say too much too him and get him too distracted.” Kristi says with more tears forming from behind her swollen eyes.

She’s crazy. That sounded like she wasn’t taking this as serious as she could. So she sheds a few tears, so what. That’s nothing. In the long run a tear means that you’re weak, so I guess that’s why she’s crying. Maybe I was wrong to snap at her like that. Maybe I need to let her know that I’m too stressed out. Maybe I just need a Xanax.

[Just as Sean decides to possibly apologize to Kristi JD pulls up in front of the house. Kristi runs over to him. The tears still in her eyes from Sean’s harshness, she hugs JD and kisses him on the lips gently but passionately. They stay hugged up for what seems like forever. The sight only makes Sean think more of his niece. He turns his back on the two and goes into the house to play with Victoria.]
