[JD awakens from his restful slumber to a room that’s smothering him. The airs so thick it hurts his nostrils to inhale. The sweats pouring off him like a warm mountain spring and he has a slight crick in his neck from the way he had been sleeping.]

“Damn it’s hot in here.” He said with a whisper.

[His mouths dry and is dying for a drink. He gently tries to sit up on the corner of the hotel bed, his feet already on the floor and his legs aching with pain. He tries to pull himself up, only to have sweat run into his eyes. Quickly he grabs the top sheet that he’s lying on and holds it on his eyes trying to get the sting out of them.]

[After a few moments of holding it on his eyes he moves it and swipes his face off with it. He raises his head up and looks around the room. The room looks like a sauna; the steam has fogged up the window and the mirror by the sink.]

Ugh, why didn’t that thing ever shut off?

[He thinks back to the first moment he entered the hotel lobby. He seems to remember the guy saying that the heater was broken in the room he was staying in so he shouldn’t leave it on while he slept.]

I never intended for this to happen, did I?

[He can’t remember.]

I guess…I fell asleep for too long.

[He looks around the room once again.]

What time is it?

[He looks on the wall for a clock, there’s not one. He grabs his wrist feeling to see if he was wearing his watch, it too wasn’t there.]

Where’s my watch?

[He looks on the night stand beside his bed for his watch, it wasn’t there either. The odd thing is that JD never leaves his house without his watch, that’s something he always remembers. It’s one of three things that he always remembers, the others being his cell phone and wallet.]

[On the night table lays the television remote, he reaches for it, hitting the power button and turning on the television. He surfs through the channels looking for the one that has the channels listed and the time in the bottom right hand side of the screen.]

Where is it, I know it’s here somewhere?

[The channels flicker from one to another as he’s looking. If he was going any faster it would be an Olympic sport.]

Finally found it.

[He stops on a CNN channel that has the date and time on the screen. He reads the time and looks surprised. As he reads on trying to follow up on the headlines he looks at the date.]

January 7, 2008, what’s this? It's the seventh, already? So I’ve been here for two days?

[He’s puzzled; he shakes his head trying to clear a few of the cobwebs loose and sits up on the side of the bed. He looks around the room for his suitcase, keys; watch anything that could help him get a sense of his surroundings.]

[He sees nothing. His keys aren’t lying on the table, his bags aren’t in the floor beside him, he has no suits hanging up in the closet area and he can’t seem to find his shoes.]

Where are they? Where’s my stuff?

[He springs to his feet looking every direction for at least a hint or trace of his belongings. He sees none of them.]

I’ll go talk to someone at the service desk; surely they know what’s going on here.

[He goes over to the sink and runs some cold water in the bowl. He splashes it on his face trying to cool down.]

Stay calm JD, that’s all, just stay calm.

[Talking to his self isn’t helping anything. His things are still missing.]

Did I bring anything with me?

[He’s so unsure of what he did or didn’t bring with him. He racks his brain trying to decide what he really needs to do.]

This or that…this or that…this or that…

[The thoughts run through his brain like a runaway train. Until he hears a ‘bang…bang’ on the outside from behind the heater, he goes to the door and opens it swiftly to see what it was.]

“Oh, sorry man, I didn’t know anyone was in there. I just thought the heater had the room all steamed up from where it hadn’t shut off.” A man in a dark blue Dickies uniform says to him.

[The flushed look on JD’s face made the man stare at him for a moment.]

“It’s ok; just…don’t worry about it.” JD replies to him.

“Son, are you alright?” The man asks.

“Yeah, yeah…I’m alright.” He replies as he turns his back to the man.

Ugh, time to talk to the service desk clerk.

[He reenters his room, looks for the key to the hotel room and sees it lying on the floor.]

Great, now if I could just find the rest of my stuff, I’d be fantastic.

[He opens the door once again and leaves out of the hotel room heading to the front desk.]

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

[On his way to the front desk he looks through the parking lot for his Mustang. He sees a car that resembles it, but once he gets up close to it he sees it’s not his. This makes him more worried. He doesn’t ever leave the apartment without his car unless Sean drives, but since he was upset with Sean, he knows Sean didn’t drive him. So how’d eh get here?]

[He enters the main office doors and is greeted by Jose, the day manager. Jose has a smile on his face as he’s dressed in his khakis and ‘Gillette Hotel’ labeled polo shirt with a gold name tag.]

“Welcome sir, how may I…”

JD cuts him off. “Do you know who I am?”

“Yes!” He blurts out with attitude. “You’re a professional wrestler and usually a snappy dresser, unlike today.”

This dudes giving me attitude and I’m trying to find out what’s going on with me right now.

“Dude, I woke up in my room and none of my stuff was in there. I never leave without my watch.” He holds out his left hand. “Which is missing, I don’t leave without my keys or wallet either. The only thing that’s in my room was this card. I can’t even find my shoes. Do you have any idea where my stuff is…any of it?”

“Let me check.” Jose types away on the computer pushing button after button. “Uh, I think…” He pushes buttons again. “Ah, yes here we are…I see that you did leave something in our safe, just let me get it for you.”

Finally, now I may know what’s going on and what happened to all my stuff.

[Jose comes back holding a black lock box. He sits it down on the counter and retrieves the key from a locked drawer.]

[Jose twists the key in the lock as JD’s eyes begin to widen.]

Okay, here we go.

[Jose opens the box up revealing JD’s watch, wallet, sandals, and wrinkled up piece of paper.]

Why did I put my sandals in there? That’s odd, was I even in my right mind?

[Jose hands the box over to JD so he can get his things out of it. JD puts on his watch. He takes his sandals out and drops them on the floor. Then he puts his wallet in his back pocket before grabbing the piece of paper.]

[JD looks at the paper in his hand and wonders where it came from. The yellow paper with blue lines wasn’t at all familiar to him. It reminded him of a note book that Kristi once had when they were still living together.]

[He gentle unrolls the paper then unfolds it; he’s building with anticipation on what it says. He flattens it out on the desk and begins to read.]

Dear JD

I don’t know if there really is a way to tell you this, and if there is I know this isn’t the right way. I’ve toyed with the decision of not telling you, but you have to know this. What kind of person would I be if I wasn’t going to share this news with you? I mean you are still a big part of my heart and I do appreciate all the love that you gave and showed me over the almost two years we were together. It really pains me to tell you this, but Victoria has been diagnosed with a small form of lung cancer. It’s not yet decided if they can cure it or not, were still waiting on the results from it.

I’ll let you know everything that’s going in Thursday, that’s when I should get the results.

With love always,

Kristi

[A tear begins to form in the corner of his eyes. He blinks his eyes to keep from balling in front of Jose. His hands are filled with rage while his heart is breaking inside. The letter has completely crushed him. He uses his rage to wad the piece of paper up into a ball and puts it in his pocket as he turns his back to Jose.]

“Oh sir, is there anything else I can help you with?” Jose blurts out.

Shaking his head JD responds with a soft yet solemn. “No, I’m fine.”

[He pushes the door open and walks out of it. He recalls the whole reason why he’s at the hotel and what’s going on with Sean and his sexuality. It was the letter Kristi wrote that put him over the edge and made him become more enraged at Sean and made the actual hate fill his body.]

[He’s at a loss right now. He feels like he has nowhere to turn and that the whole worlds against him.]
