As I sat in the Mexican café drinking a cup of steaming coffee, I wondered just what the hell had gone wrong with my life. Thinking about this question seemed to be all I had done over the past few weeks. I had arrived at a sVo show with Arrant, Sedan and Manta with no memory of who I was. I just woke up and their I was. I still can’t remember anything before that point, but for some reason everything since then has fallen apart as well. It seemed I was placed in the sVo by these people, shown the most incredible things and then just dumped. I felt useless and alone. I had seen the future and the terrible things that were waiting for us as a race, yet now I could do nothing to stop them. I wondered just why Arrant had brought me to the sVo before he had disappeared. The sVo was a wrestling federation full of talent, yet I couldn’t see anything special about it. Anything that was world changing. Sure there had been a lot of talk about the darkness over the past few weeks, was that anything to do with Arrant? I banished those thoughts to the back of my mind. Arrant wasn’t coming back for me, I was all alone and I would have to go through the same horrible fate as the rest of these people. Only they had the fortune of not knowing their impending doom. I looked around the café at the Mexican people that populate the establishment. There was the normal people that you would expect to find in such a busy place. The young and the old. The workers and the customers. The men and the woman. Each and everyone was just going on their normal every day life not having a clue what was going to happen to them…. Little did they know. I found myself looking to the far corner of the café where a woman was sitting at a table with a laptop. I wasn’t sure why I was looking at the woman, she wasn’t particularly attractive and she wasn’t really all that good looking, but something about her seemed to suck in my attention. I found myself looking at her every move as she picked up her cup and took a long drink before placing the cup down on the table. The woman wiped her lips before rising up to her feet and clicking the top of her laptop down to a close. The woman then lifted the laptop with both hands before placing it into the bag that was sitting on the seat next to her. The woman placed a few notes of local currency down onto the table as a tip before grabbing her bag with the long fingers of her left hand before walking out of the café towards the door. Her long black coat drooped down around her figure as she walked past me, not even taking a second look as I stared up at her face. As I watched her leave, it was only a few seconds later until the paper on the floor besides me caught my attention. I was sure that the paper was not there before as I reached down and picked it up with my right hand. The paper was folded tightly, and I quickly went to work in unfolding it before staring down at the piece of paper that I held in my hand. It had one word which had been scribbled in familiar and untidy handwriting. ‘Kharn.’ I suddenly bolted up to my feet as I read the word. The Cult of Kharn was the group that Arrant had belonged to, was he close? I scanned the café to see if I could see the man himself but my eyes came up with nothing. I racked my brains for a few seconds before it hit me. That woman must have dropped the paper! I quickly dashed out of the door of the café and into the street, not even finishing my drink. The street was crowded but I jumped onto a higher step and tried to scan the faces in the crowd to pick out the woman that had just left the café. Where the hell was she? I was sure that she held the key to finding Arrant and discovering just why he hadn’t been around to guide me over the past months. However once again my eyes came up with nothing. I started to get a feeling of sickness in my stomach. Was this just fate playing a cruel trick on me? Giving me hope when I had just lost it only to cruelly snatch it away from me again? I jumped down and began to wade through the large crowds in the street. I had to find this woman! I looked into the face of each person I passed, yet failed to see anything each time. I looked up at the sun that was beating down on me and screamed out the word. “Kharn!” Everyone around me looked at me as if I was crazy, but I didn’t care. If it helped me find Arrant and get back on track for saving the world then I was happy to looking like a complete nutcase in front of hundreds of people. Despite the looks I was receiving, I got no response. Was this all a cruel trick on me? I began to give up hope again as the sun beat down on the earth around me. I looked down at the dust that covered the street. I had to look twice to check that my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me, but sure enough there it was. In the dust there was a huge arrow, it was pointing down an adjacent street. I slowly looked down the street before walking towards it. The side street was completely different to the main street which I was currently standing in. This street was crowded with people and was hot under the sunlight. However the side street was shaded from the light and was empty. I took one step into the shade and it suddenly hit me. Arrant was close. I didn’t know because I could see him, I knew because I could feel it. Not any type of sixth sense, not any type of presence, I could feel it in my head. ‘Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump.” The pain was pounding in my head again just as it had done every time was around Arrant. The pain was so intense that I began to sink to me knees. I could hardly breath due to the pain, but as I dropped to the floor I did so with a smile on my face. They were close, I knew it. |
