“It is inevitable that everyone must face their demons sometime. However, for some people, like William Vorheez, this notion can take a quite literal meanin'.” Portoa Alegre is a hustling and bustling city. Huge transport ships, carrying steel, blow their horns as the pull into the harbour, and jet liners scream across the sky as they make their approach to the Salgado Filho International Airport. The hundreds of shops in the Central Public Market are inundated with tourists and local merchants alike. However, the busy city core isn’t the focus here. Instead, the scene begins to move, and passing over the city, and comes to rest over the jungle covered foothills surrounding the city. As the camera pulls in for a closer shot, a small, barely detectable clearing comes into view. The break in the tropical canopy of dense leaves and overgrowth allows the bright midday sun to carpet the jungle floor with its golden rays. There, standing near the edge of the clearing, is a familiar individual. In his right hand, he carries a small hatchet, and hung around his neck is a small wooden cross. As the camera zooms in, the face of Billy Jacobs conveys a sense of unease. Billy Jacobs: "This is truly a miracle of God. Such beauty and serenity… it’s a shame most people take it for granted. Then again, most people take a lot of things for granted… like the very life that they lead. They walk through life, takin' pride in what they have accomplished, and not once do they stop and think that if it weren’t for God, none of it would have been possible.” Jacobs takes a few steps out from under the tree where he was standing. He holds his hand out, feeling the warm of the sun on his skin. The sensation brings a faint smile to his face, but only for a moment. Billy Jacobs: "There are some people in this world that still, to this day, argue the existence of a Higher Bein'… they say that there is no God. If there is a God, why do bad things happen to good people? If there is a God, why is there war, and strife, and crime?” The smile fades from Jacobs’ face, and is replaced with a menacing scowl. He raises the hatchet up above his head, and swings down with full force. THWACK! Billy Jacobs: "Those people make me sick. They think that is there truly was a God, that he should make everythin' perfect for them. That is not how God works. God only gives us the path, and the directions… it is up to us to follow them. As children of God, it is our task alone to better society, and distinguish the flames of evil that burns within it. We must face each of our demons and conquer them before they control every facet of our lives.” THWACK! Jacobs continues to hack away with his hatchet until the sound of cracking timber halts his actions. Looking down, Jacobs lifts a small, yet thick branch in his hand. He stares at it for a moment, then nods in approval before tossing it to the ground. Billy Jacobs: "William Vorheez… he questioned the existence of the Lord, but was quickly corrected by his friend. William, you’d do well to listen to your friend. There is a delicate balance between good and evil… without one, the other could not exist. You ask, if God is so great, how can he allow evil to run rampant in this world. It is not that God doesn’t exist, but more so the fact that Satan DOES exist. Just as God has given us a path to righteousness, Satan has given us all a path to damnation.” Jacobs continues to walk about the clearing, inspecting the many branches and logs that are laying about. In the background, all the typical tropical sounds can be heard. Howling monkeys, squawking birds, buzzing insects… they all add to the natural beauty and peace of Jacobs’ surroundings. Finally, Jacobs comes across a thick, solid branch that hangs low to the ground. The huge leaves that sprout from the branch glisten with moisture, but the water soon sprays into the air as Jacobs starts hacking away at the branch. Billy Jacobs: "The demons that you see in your mind… don’t chalk them up to a simple paranormal experience. Aliens… men in black… ghosts… don’t make me laugh. Vorheez, this isn’t the movies my friend… this is real life. Your visions aren’t vengeful spirits lookin' for revenge… they are tools of the Devil. Each vision draws you deeper under Satan`s control… don`t you understand that?” Jacobs suddenly stops what he is doing. He stares straight ahead as he thinks to himself. He remembers something that Vorheez said recently… something that hangs very heavy on his heart. Billy Jacobs: "Of course you understand. You’ve made it clear that you know exactly what you’re doin'. William… you say that you’d rather rot in hell than live for eternity in heaven. I never thought that I’d here someone say that… and I still can’t believe that I heard it. It is a shame… it really is. To waste what God has given you… to throw it all away simply because you have no self-control. You’d rather enjoy sin, than persevere and become upstandin' and faithful.” Jacobs shakes his head in disgust, then goes back to hacking away at the branch. Eventually he cuts through the branch, then examines it as he did the first time. With another approving nod, he hauls the bigger of the two branches over to where the other is laying. Leaving them together, Jacobs once again wanders off to search the clearing. He carefully climbs over the rough terrain, gathering small vines that are draped throughout the surrounding jungle foliage. After collecting several strands, he returns once again to the freshly cut branches. The camera stays focused on Jacobs’ face, hindering the view of what he his doing with the supplies he collected, but it is obvious that he is lashing the branches together. Billy Jacobs: "So here it is William… albeit a foregone conclusion. While Matt Thornhill still has a chance to save himself… while I still have the opportunity to stop him before he goes down a path on which I cannot follow him… you have already made up your mind. I wondered if it was to late to save you… and I guess I now have my answer. There is no question that I have the strength and the faith to save those who can and wish to be saved… however, it still remains to be seen whether or not I have the strength and belief to fell those who are truly lost. You will be my biggest challenge to date… and with a heavy and saddened heart, it is my duty to do all in my power to see that the corruption and evil that has infested your soul… ends with you! This Sunday… what I do to you, I do not because I want to, but because I need to. You mock God’s decision to stand back and allow mankind to make its own choices. Where you mock, I embrace.” Jacobs finally seems to be done whatever it is he has been doing this entire time. With a sigh of accomplishment, he wipes the sweat from his brow. As he rises to his feet, the camera slowly pans down to show the soft, tropical soil. Suddenly, the end of a branch pierces into the land, going down at least a foot into the earth. The camera once again pans upwards and outwards to reveal a rough, makeshift cross. Jacobs stands in front of his homemade cross, gazing upon it with awe. From this angle, the sun shining down on the cross is something of a spectacle. Billy Jacobs: "William Vorheez… I have faced my demons, and I still face them to this day. I pray for forgiveness everyday... and ask God for the strength to continue His work. You have also faced your demons, and like myself, you continue to face them on a daily basis. The only difference is I have learned from those demons… I’ve learned to control them. You let them run your life, and twist you into a demon all your own.” Jacobs continues to stare up at the cross with a pained expression on his face. He knows he has a job to do, but is still filled with remorse. Billy Jacobs: "All hype aside… this Sunday, Matt Thornhill… William Vorheez… and the world… they will all see. They will all see my reason for being here… the reason for my existence… the reason why I was put on this Earth. Each man must face their demons… this Sunday… two men will face something different… they will enter the ring with a simple man… but they will be laid to waste by an Angel… a Servant of the Lord. I have a mission… and on this Day of the Sabbath… that mission will begin.” Jacobs drops his head, then drops to his knees. After a moment of silence, he looks back up at the cross, tears streaming down his cheeks. As the scene fades to black, he begins to pray… asking for forgiveness. “Heavenly Father… I ask you for the strength to do your work. I ask your forgiveness for the seemingly evil things I will do… but know that I do them in your honor and in your name…” AMEN Edited by The Preacherman, Jun 15 2008, 12:25 AM.
