The war between Peter Gilmour and Mad Max is less than 48 hours away from commencing and Max is in the final preparations before battle. Max finds himself in Glasgow, Scotland in Scotland’s version of Home Depot / Lowe’s. The place is stock full of things that make manly men and butch dykes cream their pants. Lumber, plumbing, paint supplies, hardware tools, and so much more litter the numerous aisles throughout the building.

There in the middle of aisle thirteen stands a twenty foot ladder. Mad Max stands next to the aluminum ladder looking down the lens of a camera that’s focused on him by an sVo camera crew. They are here filming an vignette / promo and when the green lights flashes just above the lens viewer Mad Max begins.

“You see me here standing next to a twenty foot ladder.” Mad begins to explain with a smirk on his face. “You’re probably wondering why… Why is he standing next to the ladder? Is he going to go on and on about how “extreme” he is? Oh and to be “hardcore” you got to drop the ‘E’ when you spell it that makes it more significant… Or so I’m told…”

Max chuckles to himself as he lifts his leg and places his right foot on the first rung of the ladder.

“Well I’m not one to drone on and on about being hardcore, or an extreme legend because let’s face it, you’ve never heard of me so how much of a legend could I truly be?” Max says to the camera. “That’s the dilemma I’m faced with now going into Sunday night Showdown with Peter Gilmour, I’ve never heard of the guy! But the way he carries on and on about being “Xtreme” I feel like maybe I should know more about him…”

Max pauses looking at the camera and says, “Naaah….”

Max climbs up the first rung of the ladder and stops as the camera spins around the cage and focuses on Max in between rungs of the ladder, watching as he lifts his leg up to the next rung.

“You see Peter, I’m not an Xtreme legend,” Max admits with a bit of sadness in his voice. “I’m just a guy who loves to smash another guys face into a steel chair! I’m just a guy who loves to take a light tube and watch as it shatters into a million pieces after it crashes into someone’s face! But you know what Peter?”

Max takes another slow step up the ladder.

“While I’m no legend… I am a guy who likes to win…” Max says with confidence in his voice. “You see, I’ve got a problem. It’s an expensive problem that, sad to say takes the majority of my paycheck… So while you want to beat me to show the world what a bad ass you are, I want to beat you because I’m looking forward to my next fix!”

Max smiles to himself as if he’s already thinking about that next trip. But then he takes another step up.

“Now why am I climbing this fucking ladder?” Max says in a serious tone as he reaches into his back pocket. After a bit of digging around he pulls forth a folded up piece of paper. After unfolding it he reveals that it’s actually a picture of Peter Gilmour back when he had just won the Hardcore Title. Max takes the picture and calmly reaches down placing it on the first rung of the ladder.

“Maybe now you’re beginning to understand but in case you aren’t let me explain.” Max says as he raises his foot and places it on the next step up. “This is not any ladder… No, this is my ladder of success!”

Max reaches into another pocket, this time pulling forth a picture of Joseph Equinox, current Hardcore Champion, placing the picture at the highest rung his arm could reach which puts it at about the halfway mark from the floor to the ladder.

“You see Peter, you are a rung.” Max explains simply. “You are a rung on my ladder and to get to the top of this ladder I must beat you and continue on my way. I’m sorry to say but as you set your sights on the unimaginable, a shot at the World Title, I set my sights on a much simpler target. Your old Hardcore title.”

Max takes another step up followed by another and another before finally reaching the rung with the picture of Joseph Equinox. Max smiles as he reaches up and comes level with that rung.

“Come Sunday Peter, you and I will do battle.” Max states the obvious. “But come Monday my sights will be set on the second rung of my ladder, who ever it might be! And you? While you may remain a “legend” in your own mind, to the world you will just be known as my first rung to the top.”

With that said Max continues up the ladder to the very top where he takes a seat looking down at the camera with that sparkle in his brown eyes.

“Welcome to my Ladder of Success.” Max says to end it.

The green light begins to dim as the camera crew go about their business closing up shop. They are beginning to pack up their equipment as Max remains perched on the top of the ladder looking around the aisle at nothing in particular when all of a sudden his cell phone rings.

“Yo.” Max answers after flipping the phone open. “Hey boss man… A suit? Man does it look like I would have a suit lying around? … … Yea man, I’ll swing by and grab one… See you Sunday.”

With that said he closes the phone and begins to climb down the ladder and back down to the ground leaving the pictures of Gilmour and Equinox remaining on the ladder.
