Again, the dice is rolled, and again chance has played it's part. I have been given a golden opportunity, an opportunity to take part in the Organised Chaos match, and leave my mark here in the sVo. I will be drafted onto one of two teams, and where all others fail I shall succeed. But before Organised Chaos, I have to take care of Lou Lyons. And before Lyons, I have to take care of Sensei Shredder on Showdown. I tremble at the thought that this may dare doubt my skills in the ring. Martial artist he may be, but we will see how much his speed can help him when he is locked in a deadly submission move courtesy of moi. After Shredder is done and dealt with, another poor soul in my line of victims, I will turn my attentions to the one thing that will truly define my legacy… And that is victory in the Organised Chaos match. Victory over Lou Lyons, while it may be a nice shot into the flowing vein of my career, it insignificant to this match. I will be the victor. I will succeed. Even if I have to beat Noir and Gunner Lang to do it. I am willing to go to hell and back to prove my mettle. And then, when the dust has settled and the glare of the lights has died down, it will be me.

Me and only me, standing victorious.

The phone rings, bringing me forth from my slumber. I sit up in my cheap hotel room bed, pushing aside sheets and coverlets in a struggle to reach my bedside table. The LCD screen tells me that an unknown number is calling. I hesitantly accept the call.

“Hello?” I ask, my voice trembling. I should be a fool to feel afraid, but you can never be too sure…

“Hi babe…” Susie greets me. I am instantly awake and attentive.

“Hey Suse… Sorry about the greeting, I’m just a little…” I trail away. What am I feeling exactly?

“It’s ok Nathan. I know you must be tired after the last few weeks… I was thinking about maybe flying out to Europe and seeing you compete at the Pay Per View.”

“That would be great.” I smile. Any opportunity to see her would be great, and these last few weeks have been hard. Not only on me, but on her. Over the last few years, I’ve grown used to being around her all the time. Now, I am still getting accustomed to sleeping alone at night. It is a strange feeling, loneliness. I will never understand it I think.

“Okay then baby… Oh, and someone was here looking for you….”

“What? Who?” I ask urgently. She seems a little startled by my urgency. “Uh… just a guy in a suit… He said his name was Mr. Jones, and that he worked for a man named Avalon. I told them you were in France, and they said they would contact you there…”

I slump back into the pillows. Avalon knows where to find me. I have spend the better part of the last three years trying to hide from him. Now he knows where to find me again. If he does track me down, you can bet it won’t be for drinks and a movie.

“Listen, Susie, I think you should fly out now for France. Then you can stay on tour out here with me.” It is now imperative that I get her out of the US. If Avalon has his agents watching her, then it doesn’t bode well for her health.

“But I’m still unpacking the house… it will be a week or two at least before I can get away from all this…”

“Please, Susie,” I beg. “I miss you.”

Those simple little words are all it takes to melt her resolve. I relax as she sighs and finally gives in.

“Okay Nathan. I’ll fly out. But not to France. No amount of high end fashion shops will draw me out there. I’ll meet you in London, after your show. We can spend a few days together before Revelation.”

“That’s Retribution, sweetie.”

“Oh. Well, you know what I meant. Anyway, I gotta run. Call me later?”

“After Showdown. After I beat Shredder.”

“Okay. Good luck tonight. Bye bye babe.”

And then there is a beep, followed by silence. I let the phone drop to the mattress. I sigh, and rub my face.

“Time to roll, I guess.” I tell the silence. A flicker of movement by the hotel room door catches my attention suddenly. I lumber out of bed and stride over to a small piece of paper sticking to the carpet, obviously just pushed underneath the door crack. I pick it up, and carefully open it, wondering who would be desperate enough to get in contact with me to slide a note under my door so early in the morning.

Hello Nathan.

I see you’ve decided to step back into your old life. Well done. I didn’t think that you would want to resume your old career. Again, I will be watching. Contact will be made soon.

Avalon.

My heart stops in chest. I read over the letter again and again.

Contact will be made soon.

Oh no… This isn’t good.
