It was about fifteen minutes ago that I arrived at Dante’s Dive. I know, a guy like me at a place like that? But JD seems to think that it’d be a good idea for both his boys to get to know each other. Every Tuesday night was Karaoke night, and I can tell why. The folks down at Dante’s Dive could really use the business. Sure, they weren’t the average high-class metropolitan bar, but for Christ’s sake—they served booze. And lots of it. I walked over to the booth that Lang was sitting at. His eyes were a little glazed over meaning happy hour started about noon. Whatever, he wasn’t driving right? Some chick was on his lap, I think he introduced her as Veronica or something. She might have just been a flirty waitress, I couldn’t really recall. Too bad she wasn’t on my lap—wait, she’s got thunder thighs, and I’m not that kind of a guy. Oh well, I’ll find someone, especially after that filthy whore of a soon-to-be ex-wife left such an impression. What did he just say? Shit, I wasn’t paying attention. Think of something fast Bondy, think of something fast.

“What was that Lang? The music is a little loud mano.”

He bought it, awesome. I think he asked if I wanted something to drink. Do I? Can I trust this place? It’s about one heroin needle short of an overdose.

“Sure Lang. How about a Jack and Coke? On the rocks?”

That Veronica chick musta been a waitress, the bitch just took my order. I smile, and I sit there. Some short, drunk Asian guy is up on stage. He’s singing something from the eighties—those Asian bastards are lucky. They’re short, most people overlook their shortcomings. In this business, can’t really afford shortcomings. Especially if you’re in a debut match. Even more so, if you’re in a debut match against somebody with the talent of one Kerry Millano. Lang seems to think I bit off more than I could chew, I shrug it off. Ahh, here is my drink. I reach for my wallet, but Lang stops me. Apparently he’s got it. I shrug it off.

“Thanks mano.”

I take a sip, hey they’re not half bad. I smile and say thanks again to Lang. He’s busy chatting it up with some people at the bar. Oh well. Leaves me to my thoughts. Millano is going to be one tough cookie.

“Hahahahahah!”

Lang and a bunch of people turn to look at me. I blush a little. Lang asked what was so funny.

“Gunner man, I just thought of something. You know how I’m facing Kerry Millano at Destiny right?”

He nods, and I’m still cracking up.

“Well, I was just thinking to myself how difficult this weeks gonna be, and I thought to myself, ‘That Millano is sure going to be one tough cookie’… get it? Millano. Cookie. Huh? Huuuuh?”

I was laughing, apparently it went over his head. Whatever. Millano is going to be a difficult challenge. I mean, I haven’t technically been in a wrestling match since well over three and a half months ago when I faced one Michael Polowy in a championship match in a rival federation. I came out on top which makes me a rare commodity here in sVo. Suddenly Lang laughs. Apparently he gets it now.

“Gunner, how many alcoholic beverages have you had today?”

I look at him awaiting an answer. He begins to count on his left hand and apparently stopped counting on his right. That’s when you know you’ve had enough, eh?

“Wow Lang… and what have you been drinking?”

I look at him once more, apparently he’s forgotten. Luckily thunder thighs Veronica walked by. She tells me he’s been drinking Kentucky Derbies… which everyone knows are a non-alcoholic version of a Mint Julip. I just shake my head. At least he wasn’t drinking an Apple-tini.

“So Lang, you got any idea what I can be expecting from the self-proclaimed ‘Career Killer’?”

He looks at me, and he’s completely unsure. He’s almost as new to the sVo as I am… but Kerry Millano has had two matches here, and he’s one-for-one. Last week on Showdown he was narrowly defeated and I don’t actually believe he was technically pinned. I’ve got a lot to prove and not much time to get ready. Although, I haven’t heard why Millano accepted my challenge, and I’m looking forward to hearing his reasoning, I don’t really care. It gives me the opportunity to get back into the ring and to really show everybody what I got.

“You know Lang, you’re a very quiet person. Somehow I knew there would be no help… no help from you.”

We both look at each other and start cracking up. Him and his stupid theme song. I lift my beverage into the air, as does he, and we cling our glasses together in a cheers fashion.

“To us. May both of us find what we our looking for, and may both of us experience good luck.”

Secretly, I knew I was going to need it. Because at Destiny… it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park. I slowly sipped at my Jack and Coke and tuned into what Lang was saying. Apparently the guy was a former rocker… how magnanimous. Haha. Geico.
