*As the cameras come into focus we see Psyko Stevo slowly rising out of bed. He extends his arms to the sky and yawns before looking at his alarm clock and smiling.* Stevo: Ah, 7:45... up fifteen minutes on the day already! *Stevo smashes a button on the alarm clock, disabling the alarm that was set to go off. He then walks into the bathroom to take care of his normal morning shower as the cameras fade to black.* TWENTY MINUTES LATER.... *As the cameras refocus back in, we see Psyko Stevo zipping up a pair of blue jeans and smiling as he looks at himself in the mirror.* Stevo: What a fantastic Saturday, I feel great! *Stevo marches out of the room and as he does so, he immediately runs into his long time best friend and head butler, Jeeves.* Stevo: Top of the morning to you, Jeeves! Jeeves: Wow, you're in a great mood today! How is your head feeling after that belt shot last Sunday on Showdown? *Stevo taps his head with his index finger twice before smiling a broad smile.* Stevo: My head is fine Jeeves... and as for the rest of me, I feel INDESTRUCTIBLE! *Jeeves smiles.* Jeeves: Well then, that's great news. Stevo: Where's Jamal at? I was going to go take him for a stroll through the park. Jeeves: Oh, he's eating some Count Chocula cereal in the kitchen and watching cartoons. He woke up about twenty minutes ago. Stevo: Thanks! *Stevo nodds at Jeeves and Jeeves returns the nod. Stevo then walks off down the hallway, a bit of spring in his step. He rounds a few corners before finally coming to the kitchen, where Jamal is washing out the bowl that he was previously eating cereal in.* Stevo: Hey buddy! Jamal: Hey dad! *Jamal runs over to Stevo and gives him a hug. Stevo smiles.* Stevo: Hey, what do you say we go to the park today? Jamal: Really? You mean it? Stevo: I mean it! Jamal: What about all your work stuff? Stevo: Work stuff can wait, this is more important. Besides, I'm only facing Alex Ross, no need to get too worried. Jamal: All right! Stevo: Okay, you go ahead and get ready... we'll leave in a couple minutes! Jamal: Okay! *Jamal places his bowl in the dish washer before exiting the room. Suddenly and without warning, "Remember" by Disturbed is heard. Stevo reaches into the front pocket of his jeans and removes his cell phone, hitting the ON button.* Chazz: Stevo, baby... we gotta talk about this Vendetta situation! Stevo: Not now Chazz, I'm about to take my son to the park. Chazz: No no no no no no! We need to talk about this, this is blockbuster, this is huge! We got a powder keg of a situation in our laps, and you wanna go take a walk with your son rather then defuse it? *Stevo's cool attitude rapidly fades as he snarls at McPhearson.* Stevo: Chazz, don't you ever tell me how to spend time with my son. Understand? *We can hear Chazz's pressing attitude quickly fade as well.* Chazz: I'm sorry PS... look, I just need to know how we're going to handle this with the press. My office is getting flooded with calls, my poor secretary doesn't have any clue what to say... help us out here Stevo, please! *Stevo thinks for about ten seconds before responding.* Stevo: You just tell all those reporters to tune into Showdown this weekend... all answers will be revealed at that time. Until then, just do what I'm about to do to you, blow em off. Chazz: No, don't you dare hang up on... *Stevo hits the END button and almost on que, Jamal rushes into the room, dressed to go outside. Stevo gives his son a high five and the two leave the room together.* Stevo: So which park do you want to go too? Jamal: Hmm, let's go to the one downtown. Stevo: Downtown it is! *Stevo and Jamal hop in the back of a limo and the cameras fade to black as the limo takes off.* FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER *As the camears come back into focus we see Psyko Stevo, football in hand, tossing it back and forth with Jamal. Jamal lets a few slip through his grasp, but actually catches most of the passes.* Stevo: Wow, you're a regular Jerry Rice! Jamal: Who? Stevo: Jerry Rice, he's the greatest reciever in the history of the NFL. Jamal: I thought Randy Moss was the best. *Stevo stops throwing the ball and walks over to Jamal.* Stevo: Randy Moss is good, but he's not Jerry Rice good. Jamal: My friend Jimmy said that Randy Moss set the record though. Stevo: Well he did, but he did it in four more games then Jerry Rice had to do it in. See, lots of people like to bend statistics for their own agenda. The NFL is no different, they just want more people to tune in and watch. Jamal: Oh... Stevo: It's kind of like me and the sVo. Jimmy Moretti is going out of his way to prevent a rematch between Mike Polowy and I, because he knows that if I win again, people are going to stop watching because it will have become too predictable. Jamal: That's why you aren't world champion yet? Stevo: Yup, it's just a big conspiricy... but don't you worry, I'm gonna make you proud and win the World Title for our family, just you wait and see. Jamal: Yay! *Stevo hands the football off to Jamal and looks in the other direction.* Stevo: Wanna get some ice cream? There's a stand just down the street. Jamal: Sure! *Stevo and Jamal make their way through the park. A group of kids starts to talk as the Psyko One passes by, but none of them have the courage to go up and ask him if he really is who he looks like. Eventually they get to the enterance to the park and Stevo points off about half a block in the distance.* Stevo: All right, there's the ice cream stand! Jamal: Dad, I have to go to the bathroom... Stevo: Okay, well let's cross the street and you can go to the bathroom and I'll pick up the ice cream, okay? Jamal: Okay! *The two make their way across the street, but as they are doing so Jamal drops his football and it goes rolling in the opposite direction. Stevo continues to walk when we suddenly hear a high pitched voice.* Voice: Look out! *Stevo spins around just in time to see a speeding car coming straight at Jamal. Stevo sprints as fast as he can, but Jamal is just too far away.* Stevo: NOoooooooo! *Out of the corner of the screen, we see a streak of black appear and just as quickly we see the streak tackle Jamal out of the way of the car. The football is flattened, but Jamal is fine.* Stevo: Oh my god, are you okay? *Stevo runs over to the scene and as he does we see that Jamal is slowly rising to his feet, tears in his eyes. Next to Jamal is a young woman dressed in a black runners suit. She is probably in her mid thirties and she is breathing very heavily. Jamal starts to talk through the tears.* Jamal: I'm okay dad... Stevo: Thank God! *Stevo gives his son a hug, but as he does so he looks down at the woman who is still lying on her back. A rather large crowd has gathered around the scene as Stevo approaches the woman.* Stevo: Are you okay, Miss? *The woman looks up and through her heavy breathing she smiles before nodding her head in agreement.* Woman: *Huff puff* Just a little worn out.. that was the end of my *huff puff* ten mile run. Not used to having to sprint it out, if you know what I mean. Stevo: Well thank you so much, you saved my son's life! Woman: Oh, he would have been okay. *Stevo extends his hand and the woman grabs it. He helps her to her feet as Jamal looks on with interest.* Stevo: Jamal, what do you have to say to this nice young lady? Jamal: Thank you! Stevo: Yes, thank you so much... what was your name again? Woman: My name is Jane, Jane Baker. Stevo: Well thank you again Jane. *Stevo looks around and he sort of panics as he sees traffic backed up in all directions. He grabs Jamal's hand and the two start to cross the street. They get about halfway and Jamal tugs on his fathers hand.* Jamal: We should invite her along for ice cream. Stevo: Oh, good idea! *Stevo spins around and yells at Jane, who is already out of the crosswalk and on her way.* Stevo: Hey! Jane! Would you like to get some ice cream with us? Really, the least that we could do to repay you. *Jane turns around and smiles.* Jane: Long as it's fat free! *Jane jogs towards Stevo and his son and the three finally cross the street.* Stevo's thoughts: Well, I thought that today was going to be the best day of my life, but it all turned horribly wrong in the span of a few seconds when I saw Jamal about to get drilled by that card. I learned something today though... just because things are going well, you can't let your guard down. When I first acquired custody of Jamal, I made him hold my hand every time we crossed the street... I kept a better eye on him, I did a lot of things differently. I guess it all relates to wrestling when I really sit down and think about it. Getting hit over the head by Johnny All Star last week never would have happened two months ago when I was debuting in sVo. I was more careful then, more prepared. Well, I learned my lesson. From this day on, I will learn to pay attention to things that appear to be simple at first glance. This match against Alex Ross is the perfect example to show that I truely have learned. I've been an idiot going into this match, taking Ross lightly, underappreciating his talent. Well, come Sunday night, I will be 100% focused on the task at hand. Christian Vendetta, the World Title, the looming battle with the Hostility Wrestling Federation... they are all on the backburner for that ten to twenty minute stretch where I am in the ring with Alex Ross. Mark my words, I have learned my lesson, and I'll never take another opponent or situation lightly in this industry. |
