We're on the road, somewhere in Maine, in a makeshift vehicle that can only be assumed to be some kind of "ambulance," though the vehicle is _hardly_ anything close to one. Seated in the front of the vehicle are the favorite employees of the Bangor Mental Institute, Johnny and Petey. An easy listening station provides some background noise, though the strains of Michael Bolton are soft.

As the vehicle hits bumps and potholes in the road, the clinking and clanking of a gurney banging against the sides and back are heard. Petey, behind the wheel and clinging to a Slurpee and some beef jerky, cringes at the sound. Johnny, who has started to doze off, is jarred awake by a fist hitting him in the shoulder. He gives Petey a dirty look, looks to the back, then back to Johnny.

"What the hell, man?"

"Go check on him."

"Why?"

"Just go do it, jackass."

Johnny begins to mumble under his breath, with random words like "sonuvabitch," "do it his damn self," and "quit this goddamn job" audible, though he still gets up and makes his way to the back of the vehicle. After trying to regain his balance from the vehicle in motion, he bangs his way over to a small "seat," which is nothing more than a chair bolted to the side of the vehicle.

"How's it going?"

The glow from a small portable DVD player is shown, and the light illuminates the face of the dual personality, The Storyteller. From the looks of things, Johnny and Petey have very crudely managed to get footage of Alex Cross on a DVD-R, and it's playing on a loop, for how long only they know. The Storyteller, meanwhile, is harnessed down, propped up, and has been watching it.

"Who is Alex Cross, and what does he want with me?"

"I... erm... well... it's just that... I don't know quite how to explain this."

"It's just a very strange thing, him mentioning me _and_ Michael Morgan in the same sentence, like we're one in the same. One could look past his inability to form a coherent sentence, let alone his childish insults and threats, but he's apparently trying to get me upset or angry."

"Let me ask you something... do you remember talking about John Starzano?"

"Yes. In fact, I've written a chapter with him in it. He's a very proud, very beloved person. I thought about having Michael take him and break his legs, but decided to show some mercy. After all, he's had enough trouble in his life. Michael attempted to fight him, but John beat him."

"Right."

"It's not to say that John won't get what's coming to him, there's _plenty_ of chapters left to write. But for right now, Michael needed to be knocked down a few pegs, since he thought that he could take over the world. In order to get the right main character, he needs to take a journey."

The vehicle comes to a stop, presumably at a stop sign. From the front seat, Petey turns around and looks back at Johnny and The Storyteller. He mouths to Johnny to ask if he's okay, and Johnny nods his head. Petey turns back around, then quickly turns back again and tosses a Mountain Dew towards Johnny. Catching the beverage, Johnny opens it and takes a quick drink before continuing.

"Umm... okay, then. That's where Alex Cross comes in. He's another character on the journey of Michael Morgan, someone that Petey and I thought you'd like to see. Given the fact that Michael didn't end up successful against John Starzano, we figured he could be written in to beat on."

"Though I appreciate the offer, I must respectfully decline."

"Why's that?"

"The creation of characters in all of my novels aren't stolen from others. They are original, and as such cannot be copyrighted. Besides, what would Michael accomplish by doing _anything_ to him? Clearly, Alex Cross is an imbicile, someone who speaks for his own amusement and nobody else's."

"That's the beauty part. Look, Petey and I know this guy is a moron. He's insulted you, Michael, and seems to think that you're some kind of made up tale. He obviously doesn't have _any_ of his facts straight, leading me to believe that he consulted Wikipedia instead of investigating you.

And that is why Alex Cross is _expendible_.

Think about it. How good would Michael Morgan feel to shut someone like Alex Cross up? How good would he feel repeatedly striking him, seeing crimson all over his hands, and knowing that _he_ made Alex Cross bleed? That's when the sVo -- err, the _world_ would see he's a lover scorned."

"You do make an interesting point."

Petey turns around from the driver's side once again, signaling to Johnny that they're almost at their destination and that perhaps he might want to wrap it up. Johnny nods his head, slams the remaining liquid in his can, and tosses it aside. He then gets to his feet, walks over to the gurney that holds The Storyteller, and points towards the DVD player with Cross' face upon it.

"This would be a great way to boost Morgan's confidence, and let him get back on track with his 'journey,' as you so eloquently put it. I'm not an author. Hell, I'm not even qualified to write an online blog. But I've read enough to know what sells. And this? This would _definitely_ sell."

"Let me think about it."

"Oh, I wouldn't have things any other way. In fact, I'll give you all the time you need. Just let me and Petey know what you decide. We'll even let you keep the footage in your possession, all the more to keep the fire burning. And remember, we're one-hundred percent in your corner here."

With that, the vehicle makes a turn into what can be assumed to a parking spot, and comes to an abrupt halt. The driver's side door opens and closes with a loud thud, and after a few moments, Petey opens the back door of the vehicle. He motions for Johnny to assist him, and the two men quickly lift and remove The Storyteller from the vehicle. The shot fades with Alex Cross' face.
