Maxim Magazine’s All Vegas Issue Nestled in between pages and pages of local Vegas beauties we find an exclusive interview with the sVo’s own Johnny All-Star. After a successful return to the squared circle Las Vegas’ own Johnny “All-Star” Starzano has agreed to sit down with us and talk about his recent return, the problems with management, and his rise and fall with the International Championship. Steve Gerber – Thanks for taking the time to meet with us Johnny. We gotta ask why not a book keeper, or a lawyer, why wrestling? Johnny All Star – Why wrestling? Well it seemed like a natural progression from my football career. Everyone in Vegas knows the story. Problem child raised by an alcoholic Vegas showgirl mother and low level mobster, Lucky Starzano makes right by attending UNLV on a football scholarship, and then drafted by the Las Vegas Gladiators. SG – That’s not your happy ending though? JAS – Is there any such thing as a happy ending really? I’ll be the first to admit things went bad. Fame went to my head, and mistakes were made. I ended up leaving football and made the jump to wrestling, touring the state until I was noticed and signed by Jimmy Moretti. First to his lower level promotion GWC, then to Project: Violence. Until more mistakes were made and the company folded. SG – And quite the mistake it was this time. Didn’t you end up with a stay in the hospital this time? JAS – I spent quite a while in the hospital. It was just after Dynasty invaded P:V, and I single-handedly discovered it was none other than Jon Page was under the mask, and I paid for that. SG – Enter JD James. JAS – Yeah JD had become involved in a revival of P:V and wanted me to come back when I was ready. We were in talks for a while. I had a great respect for the man and a friendship was formed. But during that time P:V folded again and JD and I stayed in touch. SG – So flash forward a few months’ you burst back onto the scene with the new sVo promotion capture the International Championship, a promotion founded by your old boss Jimmy Moretti, and Jon Page. JAS – First off I had no clue that Jon Page was involved with the promotion. I had reservations about getting involved with another Moretti production. I wasn’t even sure that I wanted to get back into the wrestling game at all, but I had something to prove. After some talks with JD he agreed to come on board as my manager and mentor. And history is still being made. SG – A history that includes a kidnapping, run-in’s with management, and a short lived International Championship title reign? JAS – Every story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. We’re just in the middle of my story. There have been a few bumps along the way. On a high note Jon Page, and Jimmy Moretti got what they had coming. It’s just too bad that no one else back stage has had the balls to stand up against them. SG – So what are your feelings on the new apparent golden boy of Jimmy Moretti and the sVo, Nicholas Etch, and why a Gridiron Gauntlet match? JAS – First off let me say that Nick Etch is a sell-out, forgetting his history with Vegas siding with Moretti; and the man has no morals, causing me a victory against Mike Polowy. But he did prove that he was the better man for one night. In my eyes he was a rookie in sVo and didn’t deserve a title so I decided to make him work for it, and he did. For that I applaud him. SG – So we’ve covered your past and present, what about the future? JAS – Right now my eyes are on the top prize. The sVo’s Heavyweight Championship. You’re going to see a changed man, a new Johnny All-Star come Sunday Night Showdown. Santos Rockwell is returning to the sVo, and he picked the wrong week to return. Santos Rockwell is the rung on the ladder to my sVo Heavyweight Championship reign. I’m not a maybe star, or a sometime star, I’m an All-Star. Be sure to tune in Sunday nights for sVo’s Showdown to catch Las Vegas’ own Johnny All-Star. |
