Redemption had come and gone, leaving Johnny “All-Star” Starzano both a victor and a victim. He had gained so much, and lost so much in the span of one night. He sat motionless on the limo ride home, not uttering a word. Well he muttered one word.

”Home.” he muttered when JD asked him if he would be stopping off to see Miss Davis tonight.

The entire limo ride they just sat there, not another word spoken. All-Star sat there starring out the side window, with a far off look in his eyes as the neon lights of the strip reflected off of the car window. He was replaying the night’s events. His act of redemption against Jon Page complete for the time being. The man was off to a hospital and hopefully he would spend many months in recovery just as he had. Yet at the end of the night he stood in front of his hometown humiliated and defeated, at the hands of another pawn, Nicholas Etch, a pawn that cost him a match against the sVo World Champion Mike Polowy and now took his International Championship. It didn’t matter though. All-Star knew that Etch would be nothing but a puppet champion as long as Moretti pulled the strings. At the end of the night there were no excuses, his vision had been clouded with redemption and revenge. From this night on he would no longer be a pawn pushed about the board by Moretti or Page, it was time to become a player in this game, time to be taken serious.

Johnny felt a nudge in his ribs.

”We’re here kid.” JD stated, as Johnny shook his head taking in his surroundings.

All-Star reached for the handle and popped the door open stepping one foot out looking back at his mentor and friend.

”So I’ll see you in the morning then, bright and early.” he shot as he stepped out of the car.

JD leaned over in his seat grabbing Johnny by the arm.

”Sure thing kid. Don’t be too hard on yourself in the meantime, we’re gonna get over this.”

Johnny stuck his back into the car.

I know we will JD. I know.” Johnny shot back with the best smile he could muster.

The dethroned sVo International Champion closed the door and tapped on the top of the limo sending it on its way. As the limo drove off All-Star was left standing there alone staring at the night sky.

Dammit, I should’ve called Cyn.

Johnny glances at his watch.

Definitely too late to call her now.

Johnny shoved his hands in his pockets and headed for the front door.

”G’evening Mr. Starzano.” Stevens, the doorman chimed as he walked through the door.

”Evening Stevens.” he grumbled. Even though he had all the time in the world this evening, he had no time for small talk.

He just kept moving. He eyed the elevator, and then out of the corner of his eye he saw Jefferson the operator, chatty Jefferson. He glanced from Jefferson to the stairwell door across from the elevator.

I think it’s a stair night tonight.

All-Star sighed as he pushed open the door. Ten flights of stairs, no biggie.

Ten flights of stairs later, Johnny stood in front of his door keys in hand staring at the door.

Maybe I will give her a call.

He turned the key and stepped inside. Something wasn’t right, the TV was on, and the kitchen light was on. This was it.

That’s why the bastard wasn’t there tonight, he’s gonna take me out in my own home. Well I’m gonna go down swinging.

All-Star cocked his fist back and crept around the corner. He stopped frozen, his fist slowly dropping to his side a look of relief and surprise on his face. He didn’t even notice the woman with greying red hair sitting back on to him at the table. Sitting across from the woman was the woman he was just thinking about moments before. A smile began to appear on his face.

”I was just thinking about you.”

Cynthia giggled. ”Don’t be rude Johnny. Say hello to our company."

The woman with the greying red hair slowly turned around in her chair, an nervous smile on her face. Johnnies jaw dropped.

”Hello Johnny.”

Johnny stood there in disbelief. No matter how much work she had done she still looked the same.

”You don’t have a hello for you Mother Johnny.” she continued.

”Isn’t this great Johnny I found her outside trying to get in. Stevens let us in.” Cynthia beamed.

Johnny forced a smile looking from Cynthia to his mother, the smile fading to a grimace.

”I don’t have a mother anymore Darla, my mother kicked me out when I was 13. Left me to fend for myself."

”Johnny.” Cynthia snapped as she pushed her chair away from the table. ”You can’t talk to her like that.”

Darla Starzano reached up grabbing Cynthia’s arm gently.

”Well it’s true.” Johnny replied as he threw his keys on the kitchen table and walked out of the room.

He made his way to the living room where he kicked back on the couch. Cynthia stood there not knowing what to say. Darla Starzano pushed her chair away from the table and picked up her purse.

Please sit, I’ll go talk to him.” she pleaded.

Darla Starzano shook her head.

”No. It’s all right. I … I shouldn’t have come. He has every reason in the world to be angry with me. I should really be going.”

Darla reached into her purse pulling out a business card laying it on the table.

”For if he ever wants to get in contact with me. I’m worried about him."

The elder lady reached in and gave Cynthia a kiss on the cheek and a quick hug.

”Please take care of him.”

”I will.” Cynthia whispered as she walked Darla Starzano to the door.

Johnny was still lounging on the sofa with his feet kicked up on the coffee table when she walked in. She stood there arms crossed across her chest. Johnny looked from the TV.

”What?”

Cynthia uncrossed her arms and stood behind the sofa behind Johnny wrapping her arms around his upper chest.

”I’m sorry. I didn’t know about any of the history between you too. Do you think you could ever forgive her?”

All-Star reached up grabbing her hands with one hand and her back with the other pulling her onto the sofa with him, letting her rest with her head in his lap. He placed a single finger on her lips.

”Enough about Darla for now Cyn. I’ve had a rough night, and a big match coming up, and right now I’ve got other things on my mind."

Johnny cocks an eyebrow as he looks down at her with a mischievous grin on his face. Cynthia smiles with her eyes as she reaches up and tussles his hair.

”When are you getting rid of that god awful 90’s hair?”
