The Only Star That Matters

OOC: Once I heard the match was still taking place I wanted to throw something up there before the deadline.

What a waste….

The fifth edition of Showdown had just ended, much like the momentum that The Shooting Star had going since returning to Jimmy Moretti’s wrestling promotion. It would be hard to believe that just last week he entered the Sanctioned Violence Organization and defeated one of their most promising superstars, Joey Peyton. Then when the spotlight was on him, he choked… or should we say he tapped.

The worst part was that he deserved it. After abandoning his girlfriend and his promising life: ordinary or not, he couldn’t complain. But he left it for the bright lights of Las Vegas. His urge to return to the ring was too much for him to resist. Six months ago he got a taste, the ambrosia that is professional wrestling. Back then he was nothing more than a punk kid, excited when he found out that Project: Violence was coming to his hometown. He could laugh about it now, the reason he became a professional wrestler was because he wanted an autograph from a wrestler too busy. Even to this day he has to thank that superstar, for he brought him into the business. By sneaking into the arena to show him up, he was mistaken to be a new wrestler in Project: Violence. Surprisingly he upset his opponents and not only became a contracted wrestler, but one of the best that Project: Violence had to offer.

Overnight, Christopher Starr had turned into The Shooting Star – he never actually met the original Shooting Star. His identity is unknown by him and even the board members. Whoever he was, he was a star in Project: Violence. Though in sVo, he is just another guy. He would once again have to build his way back up, but that was easier said than done. He had his chance tonight at the fifth installment of Showdown

… but he failed.

The Shooting Star was sitting alone in his dark dressing room. He was utterly depressed; he didn’t say a word as he was deeply in thought. He sat there thinking if he made the right decision. Was doing all this worth losing Jennifer over? He had been thinking this, but it was easier to look at this after he had a good match. But when you come short during a show.. a main event, it really looks a lot different from this side of the fence.

The Shooting Star: Ousted by a newcomer, how could I live with himself? My first real opportunity and completely blew it. The only thing that I had to do was beat Nicholas Etch and I would become the number one contender for the International championship title. It was a step closer to fortifying my name in the record books of Sanctioned Violence Wrestling. Perhaps it was just ring rust from not being used to wrestling again, or whether maybe I wasn’t focused enough on the match.

He wasn’t one to make excuses for himself, but he will admit his mind has been on Jennifer. He knew she was going to be mad at him for leaving and pursuing this dream, he knew that Jennifer wouldn’t pick up her phone, but he was almost sure that she would have been there for him by bell time.

The Shooting Star: Maybe Jennifer was right; maybe it was a mistake to try to lace up the boots again. Perhaps I have moved on, my mind wants to become a professional wrestler but my body doesn’t want to. If it was, I wouldn’t have tapped out of that submission: it was the first time I ever tapped out in a match.. I plainly quit on myself. This was supposed to be the second Star, my triumph return to the ring. I was to be the one that everybody talked about. I was supposed to be on top of the hill, I was the one that should have been the number one contender for the sVo contendership title. Yet a little slip up and there I am again, at the bottom of the barrel as if I don’t matter any longer.

The Shooting Star stood up from out of the shadow and into the little light that was in his dressing room. He stood there against the wall, it was apparent that he hadn’t even bothered to take off his wrestling gear. It seemed as if he felt that he left something left in the ring, as if he didn’t give it a hundred percent. He rubbed his head with the dry residue sweat chaffing.

The Shooting Star: So I suppose we will no longer get to see that match of the Stars will we? I could see that headlines now: Shooting Star and All Star, One Star Will Fall! It would imagine what one little slip up would make.

The Shooting Star plopped back down in resentment, but at the same time there was a burst of light that flooded into the room, so much that The Shooting Star had to cover his eyes from the illuminated light that was coming from the other side of the room. It was a door opening up, The Shooting Star asked “who’s there”, but there was no reply. He heard footsteps coming into the room and saw nothing more than a shadow of a man walking toward him covered by the light coming from the hallway.

”Wow, you look awful.”

The Shooting Star looked up, he wasn’t sure if he should jump up to protect himself or not. He wasn’t sure if he wanted, his back was killing me from the match. He forgot how much damage a match like that could affect you; the only thing he submitted was contracts at Jennifer’s father’s firm. He looked up and saw a familiar face. The guy who had this brilliant idea of bringing The Shooting Star back.

… Mike Polowy.

Mike Polowy: What in the hell are you doing Chris?

The Shooting Star slowly inclined his head to look at the sVo World Heavyweight champion. Though he didn’t say anything rather than he just stared at Mike Polowy.

Mike Polowy: Whatever that is bothering you is nothing compared to me! Do you know that once again that Bozo the Clown wannabe made me look like a fool? It is just ridiculous: frogs, crickets, what is next my first born?

The Shooting Star let out a little chuckle. Maybe he was blowing this all out of proportion. After all, it was only one match that could have easily went either way. At least he wasn’t like Polowy, he at least still had his pride. It could have been a lot worse. Mike went over and turned the lights to the dressing room on and saw the grin on Shooting Star’s face.

Mike Polowy: Do you think that’s funny?

The Shooting Star: A bit, yes. Besides, now that we wrestle on Sundays it is hard to find time to go to church – it’s like getting our own service right here at the Goodfellas Casino.

Mike Polowy: Well choir boy, then you are in luck. Because of this little incident the main event didn’t happen, I didn’t get to destroy Jack in the ring like I wanted to. But despite how many of my fans wanted to see this match happened next week, I have a prior engagement. I will be representing sVo over at Hostility, so there is no way I cannot have the match against him.

”I may have heard something about that once or twice” Shooting Star said as he rolled his eyes.

Mike Polowy: But Jack has to learn a lesson for playing his little pranks on me. So instead of getting me, I am delegating the match to you. The sixth installment of Showdown will feature The Shooting Star taking on Spring Heeled Jack!

The Shooting Star immediately jumped to his feet in anger. Wondering when did he ever give Mike power of attorney on his wrestling career. Every match he was ever in he decided that he wanted to be in that ring.

The Shooting Star: Your not dodging him are you Mike?

He saw it in Mike’s eyes, not the fear but the loathing. Resentment toward Spring Heeled Jack and at this moment, his old buddy The Shooting Star.

Mike Polowy: Mike Polowy does not fear anyone. Especially somebody that works at a three ringed circle – though one could argue that is exactly what Sanctioned Violence Organization is. But no, I am not looking for an escape goat. I thought you would have liked it, especially after tonight.

The Shooting Star then shot the same exact view to Mike Polowy, the look of despise in his eyes.

Mike Polowy: Besides, isn’t this what you wanted. You wanted to return to the ring hadn’t you? Well to make a return to the ring you need to have somebody else in the ring with you, that’s call a match Chris. Though perhaps this is a bit much for you, isn’t it? Maybe you lost a step or two, perhaps you were better off with your woman and your lame nine to five job at Daddy’s company.

The two have known long enough to find out what motivates one another; this is exactly what Mike Polowy was doing. He was trying to pull out the old Shooting Star, his old running mate. Not the honest worker he had become. He knew if he pushed the right buttons then he would have got what he wanted – and he did.

The Shooting Star: Fine, I’ll do it. Not because you needed me to handle the match. But I need to redeem myself after this week. Next week at Showdown, I will be there for the first time.

Mike Polowy: What do you mean?

The Shooting Star: I mean these past two shows Chris was here. The guy that was worried about his girlfriend his other life. He wasn't sure if he made the right decision. But that is no more. Besides, it has not been two weeks past and not a single phone call from Jennifer nor will she pick up my calls. So I say, to hell with her! Forget about any of it, tonight The Shooting Star is reborn. The same kid that made famous over at Project: Violence. The kid that didn't live by the rules, the one that didn't have a conscious, the one that simply didn't care. Because he was the guy that was on top of the industry, not the one that was scraping for wins – that kid held the longest undefeated streak on Project: Violence. He was the one that is returning to the Sanctioned Violence Organization.

Mike Polowy: Glad to hear it.
