The Only Star That Matters

It was like any other night at a Jimmy Moretti production. Whether it was Sanctioned or if it was simply no more than a Project, you would be right if you guessed there would be plenty of Violence. The path that Moretti has chosen is not for every man, his decisions in life has made it that nothing is safe. Because of this he has often had to move his investments around like his wrestling company, even to change a few things to avoid his enemies. Despite his difficult life there are some things in his life that is a constant. His love for the business. The past Sunday was the first Pay Per View for his new company, the Sanctioned Violence Organization. But the one constant was headlining this first Pay Per View event, that being Mike Polowy in the main event. Though the excitement of the sVo World championship, the finals of the Victory Cup, even the bitter war between Jimmy Moretti and Jon Page – the excitement came from the conclusion of the main event. For Mike Polowy, there was also a constant in his career over the past year. The Shooting Star. The first time he ever won a World championship under Jimmy Moretti it was because of The Shooting Star. Back in Project: Violence, The Shooting Star broke his promise and his friendship with Jay Rayez as he knocked out Jay Rayez with the World Heavyweight championship and helped his new friend Mike Polowy win vacated championship title. It would seem that Mike Polowy pulled an old trick out of the bag to make sure he became the champion of Jimmy Moretti’s wrestling company once more. The question was, is that what we saw? The last time anyone had heard from The Shooting Star was last year. Last year after Deadly Games when Mike Polowy betrayed everyone and joined Jon Page and Dynasty Wrestling. The once great team of The Legends Club was many things, but they had honor and loyalty. That was the day that The Legends Club died: Mike Polowy went to Dynasty, Curtis Knight decided to defend his company, and The Shooting Star disappeared off the scene altogether. That leaves many questions open, did Mike ask The Shooting Star for the help for old times? Did Shooting Star make sure that Joey Peyton didn’t win the title; does he have plans on taking the title away from Mike Polowy himself? Is The Shooting Star even planning on returning to the ring and becoming a member of the Sanctioned Violence Organization? Regardless of his status will he be at Showdown this Sunday? Last Thursday was like any other day at the Starr residence. Christopher was in the shower getting ready, his girlfriend Jennifer was pressing out his business suit. He had gotten a phone call earlier in the week that Christopher said it was a business opportunity that he couldn’t pass up, though the business trip was going to take some time for it to go through. Jennifer didn’t think much of it, after all her boyfriend was an executive at her father’s company; he would make business trips like this all the time. She kissed him off and wished him good luck. He arrived back home on Monday with an extra bounce in his steps, the business plan must have been a success! But Tuesday was when it all started to fall apart. “Are they still out there?” Christopher Starr was in his multimillion dollar home in Beverly Hills, California. He was pacing back and forth across his living room; his girlfriend Jennifer was watching him with a worried look on her face as she darted back out the window. Pulling the curtain back she saw nearly a hundred photographers, interviewers, and camera men outside their mansion. When her face appeared in the window there was a wave of flashes from the photographers and she could swear all of the cameramen were zooming in on her face in the window. She threw the curtain back. Jennifer: Yeah, I think so. Christopher Starr: Are you sure they’re not the usual paparazzi? Maybe some old diehard fans? He looked a bit worried as Jennifer opened up the window and there was another array of flashes coming in from the window, in the distance Jennifer also noticed a few interviewers had stepped in front of their cameramen and started their broadcasts. Jennifer: Definitely not. Christopher Starr may have been pacing around the room, but he didn’t seem as worried as Jennifer about their property being invaded by a gang of story hungry news people. In fact, he had a smile that he was trying to fight seeing the worried expression on his girlfriend’s face. Truth be told, he loved every minute of it. There he stood there in his house dressed in his business suit, not being able to go to work because of the blockade of reporters at his gate. Unalike his tailor-made suit, the new occupation he had taken up over the past few months did not fit him at all. For the past few months he had taken a job with his girlfriend’s father at his company – it wasn’t his kind of job, he wasn’t really the suit and tie going; but the pay was good and it made her happy. “This is all your fault!” Jennifer shouted. It was shocking how quickly her expressions changed from worried to being mad. Christopher Starr: My fault, how is this my fault. Jennifer: You told me this sort of life was over with. You said you just wanted to settle down and live a normal life. You said there was nothing left to do, they made choices for them and you needed to make a decision on your own. Isn’t that why you vacated the title and we bought this new house. To get away from it all? Christopher Starr: Yes, but isn’t that what we did. Am I not standing before you wearing this stupid monkey suit? I sit here each and every day and I watch what could have been. I watch and know that I could beat half of those guys I see on every Sunday at Showdown. I watch them and you don’t believe how bad I just want to superkick those hacks. To see a guy like Peyton to main event a show, if I was around he would be nowhere near the top of the company. That place is reserved for Shooting Star – I mean a guy like Shooting Star. It was worse than any hormones. From worried, to anger, and now Jennifer’s eyes swelled up with tears. She couldn’t believe how thoughtless she was being. He had given up everything that he knew for her and there she was yelling at him for something he couldn’t control. They were probably just doing a biography on his career or something like that and she degraded him while he was trying so hard. She gave him a huge hug as she whispered “I’m sorry” as she let out a few tears before she looked at the television. “Make sure to catch the encore of the first ever sVo PPV: Ultimate Victory. In a night full of surprises there was none bigger than the return of The Shooting Star at Ultimate Victory! When he cost Joey Peyton the World Championship, Shooting Star!” The clip showed The Shooting Star coming out of the crowd and hitting Joey Peyton with his patented superkick Starstruck and quickly running out of the arena. Jennifer: You son of a – Christopher Starr: Jennifer, relax. It’s not what you think. Jennifer: Oh really, that’s funny. I think I just saw you wrestling! Christopher Starr: No baby no, you just don’t understand the business. Jimmy Moretti just asked me for a favor. Just a little appearance to kick off his new wrestling promotion. You know they see a familiar face, doing a little move, and then I get to cash my check. Nothing more. Jennifer: You promise? We can’t have secrets like this. Christopher Starr: Yes, I promise. Just a week after the first ever sVo PPV Ultimate Victory, the sVo stars are back in action again on Showdown episode four! Mike Polowy is forced into a main event match against a mystery opponent where he must defend his newly won World Championship belt, whilst the man he defeated gets the chance to get his sVo back on track in a match against the man that cost him the World Championship, Shooting Star! Spring Heeled Jack the new Hardcore Champion must do battle against impressive newcomer Nicholas Etch, whilst the former International Champion takes on the former Hardcore Champion as Burraca faces Aariz in singles action! With so much happening at Ultimate Victory, just what will the fall out be on Showdown? Seating still available, call your local Ticketmaster! Christopher Starr: Come on! Jennifer: I don’t believe this, when exactly were you planning on telling me about this! Do you think I wouldn’t notice each and every week that you disappeared to do your little wrestling thing? Am I that stupid that I wouldn’t catch on, am I? Is that what you think of me? Or am I too dumb, I couldn’t fathom the truth behind this? How dare you call me stupid! Christopher wasn’t sure exactly how to respond. He opened his mouth to defend himself, but the dirty look that Jennifer shot at him gave him second thoughts on his response. He opened his mouth back open but thought she could twist her words around again. The whole time he is trying to calm her down his expressions changed, most of them just looked as if he was in agony as his face was twisted trying to understand what his girlfriend wanted from him. Maybe it was best to keep the argument on the main topic and why in the world he called her stupid, he couldn’t even recall saying that to her. Christopher Starr: Don’t believe everything you see on television? His hopes of avoiding a fight ended there. Jennifer: I should have known! This was your “business trip” wasn’t it? Last week you got that stupid phone call from “a friend’, let me guess – it was your friend Mike Polowy wasn’t it? Why didn’t I see this one coming, but I suppose that’s because I am so stupid. No, maybe you’re the stupid blond in this relationship, not me. Every time you get together with him something like this always seems to happen. And I mean it happens exactly like this. The worse part is that this is like a drug to you, you couldn’t just show up at one event and be good. No, to you this is worse than heroin. You have to be at the next show for some god only knows reason. I just don’t know why you have to be a wrestler, Daddy says that you are doing so good at the company. See people don’t have to be a star to have a happy life. Look at Daddy, he is like any other person. He goes to work, gets paid handsomely, and takes care of his family. Mom never woke up to see people in our front yard wanting an interview! Christopher couldn’t take it anymore, he loosened his tie some. He hated that tie, he hated that suit. That was not what he was accustomed to. He also wasn’t accustomed to be thought of an average guy. The worse thing to being compared to somebody’s father was being compared to somebody beneath him. Christopher Starr: Yeah I could be like your Daddy – and end up cheating on my woman too. Jennifer stood there with a shocked look on her face. Her mouth was gaping open, once again her eyes were filled with tears. Shooting Star then realized what he said and covered his mouth with his two hands. He then took his tie off completely and stomped on it after he threw it down on the ground. Christopher Starr: Damnit, I broke man law! Do you see what this life is doing to me? He was able to make out the words “Daddy?” from his girlfriend’s lips before she ran off crying. Shooting Star wanted to follow her but what was the use. He heard the bathroom door slam. He knew she just needed to get it out of his system, but he knew that his career was in the Sanctioned Violence Organization. He had a feeling that he wouldn’t be having a job with Jennifer’s father anymore. Christopher Starr: I am doing the right thing, whether she believes it or not. This is what I do best. Though the words came from his mouth he couldn’t help but feel as if he was trying to justify his actions. Was he wrong for not making this a decision between the two of them? Then again, this was his decision. He kept going back and forth with himself as he didn’t see the butler coming in to tidy the room up. Butler: I am so sorry sir, shall I come back later? Christopher Starr: No, it’s all right. I have a feeling I won’t be going out. Christopher walked over to the window to see if his yard was cleared from the reporters. He didn’t expect them to leave and wasn’t surprised to see them. The butler however wasn’t bothered by them and kept doing his job as he pulled out a duster and began to dust around the living room. Chris knew he had to have heard them arguing, he wondered if he was going to bring it up. Instead he started talking to him, not giving him the chance. Christopher Starr: Andrew I told you that you didn’t have to do this. Who cares about dust. Andrew: Apparently your father-in-law. After all he is the one that signs my checks so I must handle what chores he has given me. Christopher Starr: He’s not my father-in-law. You know this. Andrew: Just as well, he has loaned you the money to place the down payment on your new home, you work for him at his company, he – Christopher Starr: I have my own money, my parents are loaded! I just don’t feel like I have to borrow money from them or Jennifer’s father. I like to earn my own money. Andrew: Very good sir. Andrew continued to clean as Christopher threw the curtain of the window aside in anger. He wished they would just leave, now he felt like a prisoner in his own home. He walked over and sat down on the couch heated. He began to go through the channels but his mind wondered a bit more. Christopher Starr: Andrew, do you like your job. Andrew: Much so sir. Why do you ask, I pray your not planning on giving me the boot. Andrew chuckled and Christopher held his tongue from saying as he pointed out, isn’t employed by him. His father-in-law.. he means his girlfriends father. That’s it. Christopher Starr: No, not at all. But if you had your choice would you be cleaning others houses? Didn’t you have another dream. Andrew: Why yes, now that you mention it. I would have loved to have been a violinist for the New York Symphony. But at least I have two left hands – doesn’t stop me from playing, but if I could I would leave in a second. But I would like to stay friends with you and young Jennifer. Andrew probably didn’t know any better, but he had help Christopher make his decision. He wasn’t being greedy, he was doing what any other man. This Sunday he will return to what he has always done and that being a wrestler. This Sunday he would return to Sanctioned Violence and show up at Showdown to take on… Andrew: Joey Peyton! Christopher Starr was shocked that Andrew knew the name. He turned back to the television screen to see the young talented wrestler promoting some merchandise. He let out a laugh, for a second there he thought that Peyton had somehow made his way to his home. But it wouldn’t be out of the question with everybody outside doing their reports. Christopher Starr: You know who he is? You follow the Sanctioned Violence Organization? Andrew: Oh yes sir, much. Christopher Starr: So you know about – Andrew: Yes, but even if I didn’t – if it’s not too bold to say, I would have known after your little row a little while ago. Christopher Starr: No, I guess not. Andrew: But might I say, I think you are doing the right decision. If I can say, you were quite the wrestler and from what I saw at Ultimate Victory, you haven’t lost a step. If you decide to go to the sVo this weekend, we’ll be cheering you on against Joey Peyton. Christopher Starr: Why thank you. Andrew: Not at all, but I am off for now. Those dishes won’t do themselves. Andrew gave him one last smile as he walked through the swinging doors and left Christopher Starr back alone once again in the living room. He hit rewind on his TiVo and paused on Joey Peyton pushing his sVo shirt on the fans. Christopher Starr: So there he is, my future and my demise. I know you must be mad, huh kid? You are probably out there saying why me? You had everything going your way, you were within inches from becoming the first every sVo World champion. Mike Polowy was down and out and you saw yourself as the champion and all the glory that comes with it. So why you? I’m asking the same question. Why you? It should never have been you, it was always me. I was the one that was supposed to be given the call to come and turn another promotion into a money maker. I came to Project: Violence at a young stupid kid, much like yourself and I lead the company into a Utopia. You had your Mike Polowy’s, Curtis Knights, even your Brocks, Rayez, and Pat Fullam – but there was only one constant and that was having The Shooting Star around in the spotlight. Even when I wasn’t wrestling I was the star on the night. I knew how this business worked, which wasn’t surprising seeing how I spent most of my life as a fan. I know what the fans want and what they need, that was why I was a star whether they loved to cheer me or boo me. They just loved to make noise when my music hit. That is what I miss, not the titles and glory. There could be something found in his statement, not just mentally but he could feel something. It was the pride that he had once held in himself as a professional wrestler. There was no street drug in the world that could replicate the feeling he had in the pit of his stomach. For the first time in a long time he felt alive and couldn’t wait for work. Christopher Starr: I have missed this. The feeling you have before an event, this is worth any title shot you could get. I can’t see how you are complaining over one little kick when you get to feel like this each and every week. I have missed the excitement of the ring, the roars of the fan, just how good he felt when he slammed a steel chair over somebody’s head – or else superkicking them. Christopher Starr said with a smile on his face. Christopher Starr: But I suppose that this Sunday at Showdown all of that will come back to me, won’t it. The fans will get what they have missed for months, the return of one of the hottest wrestling superstars to date – The Shooting Star. After tonight when I leave to return to Las Vegas, the line on your career has jumped because I am The Shooting Star … Christopher Star paused as he turned the television off. The Shooting Star: … and I am returning. The Shooting Star sat up and left the living room. He had things that needed to be done, if he was going to be in Las Vegas by Sunday for sVo’s Showdown then he would need to be packed and he would have to gather up his old wrestling gear. But even before that, he had to do something else.. He walked out the swinging door, as he made his way down the corridor. He knew he had to apologize to his girlfriend for how he was acting. He wondered where she had run off to, but he noticed that the bathroom door was still closed. He was sure she was done crying but he could hear her sniffling. He composed himself before opening door. As he opened the door, she was sitting on the toilet with her legs curled up on the lid as she had the telephone on her hands. Jennifer: Mom, is Dad there? There is something I have to tell you. He slowly closed the door and hoped she hadn’t seen him. The Shooting Star: Man, I am glad I’m going to Las Vegas. Fade |
