Here's a new one.. (not).

Animal testing is something that's been around for such a long time, numerous people against it, and numerous people for it. Plenty of arguments, even before school friends can arise just because of a disagreement in opinions.

So, what I want to know is all your views on Animal testing. Is it cruel or wrong? Is it needed? Or are there better ways?

Or do you think that it keeps a controlled amount of animals? That we don't want to get overpopulated by them?

Good points that are well backed up are what I like to see... :)

Lets face it, those who are against animal testing wouldn't let new un-tested products be tested on them. And paying people lots of cash is exploitation of the poor.

Animal testing is horrible, I think alternatives should be looked into.

However, we really cannot test these on humans for obvious reasons until we are sure that they are safe.

As it is, I'm actually using animal testing as a topic in my german oral exams. :P However, I'm more pro animal testing. The safety of humans should take complete and utter precedence over the 'safety' of animals. There have been incidences where humans have died due to there being NO previous tests being performed. One such example is the Elixir Sulphanamide Disaster, where over 100 lives were lost.

I'd insert a link, but I'm on quick reply, and don't know the code. Google it if you want to though. ;)

Edit: *inserts link*

So you'd prefer for human lives to be endangered than animals'? That seems more cruel to me.

(Btw, FYI, I don't support the uses of make-up etc, on animals.)

Animal testing is cruel, animals bread just to used to for tests probably die by chemical poisoning.

There whole life is just to in the end, die. Yes, we all die, but by chemical poisoning!?!?!?! Not fun.

Other ways to test chemicals should be explored.

The vast majority of animal experiments do NOT result in the animal's death.

However, they're often kept in very bad conditions, and having make up put on them can't exactly be enjoyable.

In all honesty, half of these products aren't necessary as it is. Girls don't NEED their make up, any guy who really like the girl he's with, wouldn't care whether she wore make up or not, I know I don't.

Still, there are some other things that are more necessary, and we should find ways that are better than testing on animals.

I feel the same way about this as I do about cars using gasoline. Many people agree that cars that use gasoline are very bad for the environment, but banning burning gasoline wouldn't be the solution. The truth is, many alternatives are being researched to solve the problem.

Animal testing is obviously not the best thing in the world, but as Jack Sam has already pointed out, it's currently the best method we have. Maybe when scientists are more able to lab grow synthetic organs and hair, animal testing will become a thing of the past. But for now, there aren't any other ways to get that kind of thing tested.

And a little bit of make-up doesn't hurt, Jack :P

Thought i'd just bring this to the top, as I find it interesting. Animal testing is bad, I know - but it's better than doing it on humans.. yah? Basically a more simple version of what Z said :P

My opinion on this topic is that animal testing is a necessity for the continuation of modern medicine, and PETA and other groups have completely blown the issue out of proportion. I'm not saying that animal testing is great for the animals, but it does generally provide accomodations for its animals that are better than most animals raised for our consumption (anyone ever heard of the meatrix?). Animal test subjects have been bred for testing, so is it really so cruel?

I mean, the animals have known nothing of a better life than where they are, so is it so cruel to them if they don't know (assuming they're to any degree sentient) they'res anything better? If you really want to free them, just remember that they don't always provide great pets after being 'rescued'.

Furthermore, say we end animal testing. What do we do instead? Test humans, or let them die from unknown poisons. This later is one thing I wouldn't mind, as it would once more allow the homo sapien sapien to continue to adapt, which has been halted with the advent of modern medicine. The human race has developed a strong immune system from their days since they've been alive. This is because if you were immune to a disease, you didn't die from it. That allowed you to have more kids who are immune, and so on and so forth. Medical technology has decreased the ability of natural selection to develop the human being by giving for the opportunity for less fit individuals to have the same or better chances of passing of their genes vs someone more fit.
So. Animal testing, imo, isn't as bad as its made out to be, but hey, without, what do we do? We evolve. That's what. Adapt, migrate, or die. That's how it should be.

I have to agree more with Jack Sam on this point. And Danielle, you may sound like you care about animals, but you can never say 'test it on humans' without imagining someone going, "Ok then. You first." They may be scientists, but they're humans, too. Would you care to 'test' these things on anyone you personally disagree with? Now THAT is cruel.

I think animals do have some 'rights' and that we ought to try to treat them well. But I do also believe that humans have a larger priority over animals and that this is something that we can use to aid humans. Maybe there are better ways, and if there are, let's use them, but for now animal testing is what we've got.

Animal Testing Is Against The Rules Of Nature, Unless It Helps Nature Itself.
