Being "quicker" does not make you correct.

Theoretically, anything is possible. The laws of science could be something that have seemed to work until now, and then quit tomorrow. You could morph into a gigantic purple tentacle monster. Even weirder, Richard Dawkins and the Answers in Genesis people could become best friends: anything is possible.

So yes, the LHC could explode--but it has the same probability of doing that as you do of spontaneously growing pink wings while declaring that not all scientists are evil. Which is to say, not much.

On the other hand, there is a very real possibility of finding information that changes the world, because right now we have a dark spot in Creation that this experiment may light up.

Now, it may not cure cancer, but information gained from information gained from information gained from it could. We just don't know--because, while the experiments are all safely contained, the human mind is not.

They paid billions of euros to build that machine and now they worry about the electricity costs in winter? -.-
Also, those problems are going to come up all the time and one day the LHC can't be afforded anymore because of the market crisis...

Umm I think you'll find that problem was found in the LAST test they had to run. So there really isn't much space for more to be going wrong. Of course once each section is up and running and fully tested, running them all together will be another question, but there isn't much of a chance of anything that takes up as much time.
