If anybody wants some more proof that the LHC will doom the world's future, here you go: Posted Image Look up Half-Life if you don't get the reference. |

Seriously, people, there's nothing to worry about. Anyway, you can always monitor the situation yourself, 24/7. Just look at the webcams here: http://www.cyriak.co.uk/lhc/lhc-webcams.html. |

Er...anyone heard the news? I think there was a problem with some kind of magnetic stuff and they lost 1b euros to repair/replace some parts. I can only lmao on that. With a 100th out of that, I'd be very very happy. I think that we are taking this whole LCD thing too seriously. It's just some crazy guys paying massive amounts of money that could be used in better things into a scientific project that will not find cure for cancer. Please, don't come with that radiation thing, it's just there for us to say "Wow nice project plz go on :)". I'm not much of a scientist but I can guarantee you that 99% of my post is correct. Only the last 2 sentences are wrong :P.Posted Image Edited by Mr Master52, Sep 25 2008, 05:27 PM.

Well, there's a mistake in your post immediately. It's the LHC, not LCD. ^o) Anyway, you cannot be sure that nothing of benefit will come from this project. I've said this before, we humans are always curious to discover new facts on the working of life as we know it. The LHC isn't being used to find a cure for cancer, but it is one of the things that could be produced by this machine. And, from what you've said, it seems to me that you think most forms of fact-finding exploits don't go down very well with you. There's always something better to do with the money..... :/ |

Like what? Give it to the Church who already rake Billions every year and still need more, yet that money never seems to get used. Unless it goes towards priests having sex with children, which would be an even worse waste of money than the LHC. |

Sorry master, but we'll have to agree to disagree. I personally think you're completely and utterly wrong, because, as jack sam said, we never know what we're gonna get from a machine like this - we could get the Higgs boson, we could get a cure for cancer, we could get a death ray that.. yes, can give a helicopter cancer (That's the comic I was referring to in my earlier post). At the same time, it could create five legged man eating dragons.. Thus is the science of the quantum theory, if you wanna learn more about the quantum theory and subatomic studies, I suggest you go to this link and watch the videos there: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html If you don't feel like watching it, basically it says what people have said for millenniums: Anything is possible. According to the quantum theory you could throw a ball ahead of you, it curves 180 degrees, and hits you in the back of the head, basically. Anything is possible, just not probable. If you really wanna argue this up and down, I'd be glad to ;) This kind of thing excites me. |

Most of science is based on trial and error, and educated guesses, along with the occasional successful mistake; if we didn't want to do any of that, we'd be fools living in stone houses, with simple colds being the deadliest disease on the planet. Think about it, how do you think one might find the cure to cancer? Probably by educated guesses and trial and error, seriously. Edited by Yugiah, Sep 26 2008, 04:15 AM.

You cant succeed without trying and sometimes trying leads to failing if we never some people never tryed anything simple things like buying spliced bread wouldent be possible YOU WOULD HAVE TO CUT THE BREAD UR SELF!! |

No, there isn't a problem 'with some kind of magnetic stuff'. It's a burned circuit somewhere in the tunnel. Because of the extreme temperatures the LHC operates in (A few K, or -200 C), it'll take well into 2009 until the LHC has been heated, checked, and recooled again. This will not cost 1b euros, but even if it did, 1b is nothing compared to the 700b bush is going to put into nationalizing the American economy (note: This also happened with Stalin and Hitler. Glad he's leaving). Also, almost every western country is putting in a certain amount of money every year, so such a reparation wouldn't even cost a single country more than 10-20m (not a lot for most countries). |

I'm not saying that we shouldn't stop trying and researching, but I heard some facts about the cost of the LHC and that made me really angry. And yes, the 700b injection is a "lmao-no-need-to-argue-about-it" fact. And as I so like to debate, have you ever thought about your quantum theory? So, it's very unlikely but possible to get the cure for cancer you say? So I say, it's 1biliion times more probable that the LHC is exploding, because there are so many different situations this could happen and getting cure for cancer is only 1/infinite. Yes, of course you will try to argue about it, but accept it. Spoiler: click to toggle

No Master, you don't like debating properly. You like throwing out random numbers that have no scrap of verification behind them to further your point. You give me some references for these 'facts' then I'll start considering your points a bit more. I mean, where are some examples of calamities that might help? There's probably more chance of your computer blowing up, than the LHC, considering the amount of time/effort/money/brains behind it. And do you know why '700b' was put into the markets? You claim that '70,000' families will be very happy, but this money could actually help a lot more people. |
