That's the nice thing about Christianity. The Bible tells us that you God was always here and always will be here. That's all we need to believe. If you're a Christian, you ought to believe everything in the Bible, so you don't really need to go out and proove that. It's impossible to totally understand with our minds anyhow. |

lol if people believe everything in the bible, they must think that the earth is only a few thousand years old and anything older is just a lie. So if you do believe that then tell us how everything that is said to be before the human race possible?? |

I heard from some christian that a "day" is actually a long time. So I suppose "God" could exist. even thought I KNOW evolution exists. Scientific evidence is nice. Edited by Sooth, Jul 24 2008, 06:01 PM.

The bible is nice. If you want to live by it, fine with me. But please, DONT take the times and dates too serious. |

The bible is full of symbolisms, etc. you can loose yourself and believe that the earth was created in 6 days, but scientists (Einstein included) proved that the 6-7 days actually are 15bil years, approx. the time when we think the universe was created. And Sooth, I am a modern Christian and believe in evolution AND God. God was creating us and took time making us perfect... |

So master, your a proponent of intelligent design, and/or divine intervention? Interesting. I (somewhat) regularly attend masses, and I also believe in similar ideas; classic science-is-wrong-religion-is-right-rawr Christianity is something I have trouble following. Also, just because I support my religion wholeheartedly, doesn't mean I proselytize it everywhere I go. Right now, I'm just sharing my beliefs and ideas, I am not asking any of the people with differing views to be "saved' be giving up everything (even if it is just lack of religion) the believe. |

Umm....what proof is that? Also, plenty of "modern" Christians believe in God but not evolution... Edited by Yowming41, Jul 25 2008, 04:01 AM.

I believe what he's asking is this: The bible tells us that the earth is only a few thousand years old (or, as old as the human race, and did not exist before that) and if you believe everything in the bible you believe this. How then, can we find anything on Earth that is older that a few thousand years, such as most fossils, and how did anything that science tells us occured over 20,000 years ago have happened, if the bible tells us there was no earth at that time. |

I'm no scientist and I don't have 100% proof to hand to you. My best estimation is that they were mistaken. |

The usual "7 days" explanation, if I remember right, is based on Hebrew. It has relatively few words, and the one used for "day" can also mean "age." That and the fact that the Old Testament shouldn't be taken literally, of course... Edited by Bunni Killer, Jul 25 2008, 07:03 AM.

Just the old testament? I think you shouldn't take the whole bible literally :P . And about that age of the earth thing: scientists use a method called carbon dating to find out the approximate age of fossils. This technique has been applied thousands of times, and I think that the whole scientific community agrees on this method to be exact. |

Science has way more evidence than religion. I am like most people on Earth, a "seeing-is-believeing" person. So if God, Jesus or even Moses if he must comes down to take a visit, tell them to come see me. |

Dumb question. I've seen the evidence that supports the Big Bang, therefore I believe in the Big Bang. |

I was watching a program on Steven Hawkins and there is a 16 mile experiment that is being built which they say will prove the big bang happened. |

Sounds like a particle accelerator, like this one, although CERN isn't trying to prove the Big Bang per se. But again, I fail to see the point of this entire science vs. religion thing. They answer two different questions: science is showing us how the world came to be, and religion is meant to show why. The two aren't incompatible because they don't intersect. And yes I will continue using extensive BBCode in this post! In short, everyone needs to get over it. There are people who will believe in their religion, and that makes them happy, so why not? There are also people who don't, and that isn't going to change if you prod them and nag them until Judgement Day or when the sun burns out in a couple billion years, whichever happens first. Just let everyone be. Edited by Bunni Killer, Jul 25 2008, 09:04 PM.

I have to agree here. People who want to believe in their religion will and those who want to believe in science will. |
