-_^ It just isn't a sport if it doesn't involve blood sacrifice of the losing team. I'm sorry, but that's how I feel... Mental exercise does not make sport. Drawing is not a sport; neither is composing. Sports are physical, inane, and must result--if not in blood sacrifice( <33 )--at least in Chinese media circuses. |

Here is my updated thoughts: I think that it is NOT a sport, but it is DEFINITELY something you can go pro at. |

Gaming is not physical. Gaming is a wide term (Which games would be a sport? Warhammer? Halo? Checkers?). Gaming does not focus on teamwork. Because of these reasons (especially the first two) gaming is not a sport. Sport <-definition (clicky) Edited by naomi shail, Jul 31 2008, 09:11 AM.

My opinion has kind of changed. I view gaming as a non-physical sport. For example, if anyone played Grifball on Halo they would know you have to make strategy like a sport and have the same reactions you would if you were playing football. |

Gaming in general is not focused around teamwork, True. However, If you find the right games, and the right people - Teamwork is all gaming is about. |

Teamwork is not always existent in sporting events, such as Martial arts, golf, and running. |

"Sport:... 3. An active pastime; recreation" [1] "Game: 1. An activity providing entertainment or amusement; a pastime" [2] .'. Gaming = Sport [/thread] |

As much as I would like to see gaming as an actual sport, I don't think you can compare gaming to sporting. I think gaming on it's own became a completely new form of sport, with it's own competions, different categories, and almost every other aspect of sport, except for the active part. I don't think gaming is a sport. I think gaming is a completely new form of sporting. |

That's like saying: "I don't think this is milk, I think it is a liquid that was harvested from a cow's udders." |

Really? I've always considered it more of a specification: All poodles are dogs but not all dogs are poodles. Likewise: All sports are games, but not all games are sports, because not all games are active. |

We're not talking about a specific game, we are discussing gaming in general. However off-topic this may seem, gaming is the only sport I know of with its own Church |
