Dang, that's lookin' pretty sexy, burner! See that shade of grey, people? Now THAT is how you do it. That harmonizes beautifully with the rest of the colors on the car. Your red stripe...while being right on the edge of being too saturated without pushing it over the top...also has what I feel is a nice richness and vibrancy that really makes the car pop. The only thing I might suggest is that you take the red tint on the windows down by somewhere between 20-40%. I'd like to give a more precise recommendation, but basically I would suggest that you have them be black with a red tint instead of mostly red with a black tint. Other than that though, this thing rocks. I really like the headlights you've chosen, they add a nice bit of detail and personalization. And I really think the only thing you might have to do to 'un-Mythic' (that's funny) it, lol...would be to change the slots on the hood. You don't have to, but that's the only thing I see that really ties it to mine. Excellent work, burner! ![]() For me, this is what I want to see...cars that make me want to vote for something other than my own. Way to bring your 'A' game, dude. ![]() <places Mythic Stamp of Approval with gold star for outstanding achievement>

Yup, it's a 512x512 since it's mostly done using Mythic's template and some Googling, lol. @Mythic: About hood airvents... personally I find them so cool that I won't probably take them off... sorry ![]() And yeah, I'll desaturate the stripe and the glass parts a little bit... already planned to do so ![]() But thanks for the feedback, really. I mean, woah, getting positive feedback from the repainter which made the template I used. And what a repainter. ![]() Oh, you pointed out something related to the headlights... you still need to see the taillights btw ![]() @ZR: Sending over as soon as I finish the last touches, but that's not gonna take me a lot of time. |

Oh, I don't care about the hood vents. I just mentioned that element was the only thing that stood out when you brought up the comparison. Like I said though, I don't mind if you don't change them. ![]() As for that red stripe, I don't know if you really need to change that. You can make the call when you are tweaking things, but just to clarify my own statement...I said it was on the edge of being too saturated...not over that edge. You know, looking at it again...you could try a black bordering stripe on the outside of your red one that I think might set both the red and grey off just a little more. That might not look as good as what you've got already, but it may be worth a go to see if you like it. Just a thought. ![]() And if I were to be super critical...that logo on the top looks a bit on the small side. Can you really not make that one any bigger, or did you hit the uv limit with that one? Even if you can't make it any bigger, perhaps scale the height down a little more so it doesn't look quite as squished horizontally. I don't know...seems like that one could read a little better. But that's just me being extra picky. Truly, a great job on this one, burner.

Black outlinings around the stripe? Might give that a try as well ![]() Erm, yeah, that is the UV limit... in fact, you can even see a small part of the side shadow being mirrored, but that's really minimal... But in fact I was going to take that logo off (and leave just the one on the spoiler) and replace it with something else, maybe a RV pickup or a star, like you did, or perhaps a racing number which will also be applied on the sides (symmetrical numbers FTW )Trying now btw ![]() EDIT: [xIMG]http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/9325/slinefinal.jpg[/xIMG] |

Here's some stuff that might help. ![]() Say, here's a tip for anyone using that red and white .png Re-Volt logo by MarvTheM. When you scale that down, the white outline around the outside tends to pick up a lot of the red from adjacent pixels. To get rid of that, do the following... Make a selection around that entire logo...this is done in Photoshop by Ctrl+clicking on the layer thumbnail...then go to Select>Modify>Contract and reduce the size of the selection until it excludes that white outline around the outside. You might have to touch up a few places with the Lasso Tool. Next hit Crl+Shift+I to invert the selection and Ctrl+U to bring up the Hue/Saturation dialogue. Drag the Saturation slider all the way down to zero. Next hit Ctrl+L to bring up the Levels dialogue and drag that top right slider over to the left to increase the level of white in the selection. This will increase the clarity of the white outline and remove the reddish tinge from it when you scale it down. ![]() That's if you want to do it yourself, but here is a .psd where I have already done all this for you, and included a couple of smaller versions you can duplicate into your car skin images. ![]() Something else of possible note is that I have seperated out the background gradient and placed it on a seperate layer. What this allows you to do is do anything you want with that background. You can just re-color it of course, or you could light it differently...or you could even place some kind of image back there. All of this is easy to do because the 'Re-Volt' part has already been masked off for you. Since this is a popular version of the logo I thought you guys might want to play around with it a bit in the future. ![]() ![]() [size0]Uploaded with ImageShack.us EDIT: You're right burner, those tail lights do look cool. ![]() A couple of things...if you took the saturation down on that red stripe, I have to say I think I liked it a little better before. And as for the windows, I like the color, but it seems to me like they could use a bit more a highlight. What do you think?

Thanks, Mythic in fact, those are Audi A1 taillights, the non-LED variant, with desaturated parts. Just the neon brakelight was left untouched, giving it a tuning look. The stripe wasn't touched, however, I thought that a darker bit on glass parts might help ![]() As for the logo, I didn't use that. I used the original RV Live one, which had kind of pixel crystalization and a border shadow. |

That's lookin' great, Strix! ![]() I like that gradient you have going on in the stripe, but the color transition...the visually cool part of the gradient...is getting lost both in the front behind the decals and at the back it's kind of being hidden in shadow. You may not agree, and frankly I could be wrong...this is something I would have to do then look at...but you might want to try pulling the red in on both ends so that the transition is a little more obvious. If that was your intent not to let any red creep up onto the roof though, then feel free to ignore that, lol. I just thought it might be cool to accentuate that gradient a little more. ![]() As for the back end, I realize you are working at 256x256, but I'll be honest and say that I think your tail lights could be just a bit more detailed. The level of detail on the decals and headlights is such that it makes these look somewhat inconsistent with the rest of the car. Also, that logo on the back end is getting lost in the vertex shading on the car. There isn't any way to lighten up those areas and still keep it stock so you basically just have to work around it. I would suggest that perhaps you move it up a bit to pull it up out of that shadow and make it more visible. I hope you guys don't mind my suggestions. If anyone finds it annoying I'd be happy to exclude you from them. Just let me know.

Hahaha...you're right, ZR. Oddly enough, I did actually go to the spring logo thread to make sure I was doing the right one. I took a look at the MarvTheM one and said to myself "Yep, it's 'the red one'."...you know, just confirming things that I thought I already knew. And I was sure I had already downloaded that one so I obviously made some mental assumptions and crossed a few wires because even while working on it to mask off the letters I just didn't think about it, lol. Oh well, I guess it's a good thing I also mentioned how to do it yourself, huh? <looks over to Halo...nods approvingly> Uh-huh, yep...that's the kind of quality one would expect from one of the community's premiere car makers. <glances with admiration at the nifty hood slots> Oh yeah, baby...I want to drive that one! The shape of your hood vents and headlights give your car a nice aggressive appearance that says this car can't wait to get off the starting line. For this next one I'm going to have to pull out my extra big Stamp of Mythic Approval...your decision to use that split stripe the way you did on the hood as well as the entire skin in general makes use of the classic art principles. [] Unity - All the elements of the design tie together to create a unified whole that is greater than all it's individual parts. [] Harmony- This is where one element does not stand out above or apart from the others, but rather creates an overall sense of balance. [] Pattern/Rhythm (or Repetition) One way you have achieved this is by using Repetition, which uses similar repeating elements throughout your entire design. Another one you hit upon is Similarity, which is where you use similar size, shape, color or texture to create complimentary elements within your design. These are all things that truly take a design to the next level. Even if people don't know why, they will still find images that incorporate these elements more pleasing because of their inherent harmony and visual balance. Minor suggestions Your branding graphics are clean, but unfortunately they are also understated to the point that I'm not sure this paintjob sets it apart as the poster child of RVL. Since that is the point of this particular competition, I think I might be tempted to want to see that aspect given a bit more emphasis. That '88' basically works, but there are a couple of things that keep catching my eye. The first is the fact that I think I would personally be tempted to move the one on the side up a little bit and go ahead and let it follow the curve on the top of the door. Not too much, but just enough to keep it from looking like it is sitting too low, quite frankly. And I believe having it follow the contour of the door will serve to make the element a little more 'visually dynamic' and part of the vehicle. As for the one on the roof, I can't help thinking that could be just a little bit cleaner. I'm not sure if that is a shadow gone wrong or something else, but it basically just looks like it was unecessarily smudged on the right of each '8'. Maybe it's the fact that it looks kind of like the shadow is being cut off on the bottom...leaving you with a soft shadow edge on the right, but a crisp one on the bottom. Just seems a little off, that's all. Perhaps you could try less blur on the shadow in general. ![]() Overall, this is one fine piece of work, Halogaland. You have impressed me yet again with your mad car painting skillz. Excellent! ![]() [size0]It turns out your cat was right all along. He probably deserves a treat for his unflagging belief in you. |

<narrows eyes and glances sideways at ZR with a grin> I see what you did there... ![]() But here at Mythic Motors we have ways of dealing with crafty people such as yourself. Fortunately we have the Mythic Motors Surveillance Satellite & Observation Network as well as our crack team of Monkey Minions that have been put to work analyzing the data to determine just what it is that you've been up to over there, ZR. [xIMG]http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/1627/zrsatellitephoto01.jpg[/xIMG] It seems they have come up with a couple of theories. Apparently they think you are either working on an attack beetle with a penchant for racing...as evidenced by the stripe on his helmet...or you have somehow enlisted the help of a tiny superhero to aid you in your quest to dominate the Re-Volt racing scene. Either way...we've got our eyes on you...and we're all expecting something fantastic. ![]() [size0]Image uploaded with ImageShack.us |

I was just trying to say this car is supposed to not only be a cool repaint of the Toyeca, but also sort of a sponsor car for RV Live. So I was just suggesting that 'RVL' or the RV Live logo might be displayed a little more prominently. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that.

Gonna analyse the situation carmaker by carmaker. - Strix. Yeah, agreeing with Mythic. The RVLive logo on the hood kinda ruins the original look the stripe had, making the gradient fit a bit worse than before. I don't necessarily mean that it looks bad, just pointing out that perhaps it could look better with the logo on the roof (where the stripe has no gradient) and the gradient'ed stripe still on the hood. Liking the use of Adeon rims, they really fit. Especially with that light blue coating ![]() In my opinion you could have played around a bit with lights as well, that surely helps to make a car look completely different. I mean, it still looks a lot like a stock Toyeca with a custom paintjob, rather than a totally new car. - Halo. Woah man, that's pretty impressive. I'd say that one and Mythic's Burgundy Toyeca are surely going to be the candidates to get the first places in this competition. SURELY. The theme itself (racing paintjob with some tuning details here and there) fits really cool on Toyeca's shapes. Lovely lights and rims, the rear end kind of reminds me of a Mazda RX-7 FD (with clear lenses). Another thing I really like is the splitted rear window... it gives the rear end quite an old-schoolish look, which kinda contrasts with the overall aspect of the car, but it still remains a nice addition. Just like the hood vents... ![]() - ZR. The only thing I came to think about, by looking at your screenie, is this: Spoiler: click to toggle

- ZR. Very lovely rear lights. Liking the colour association, I remember having a Cougar which was painted that way (and looked really cool)... Nice usage of the edited Toyeca rims. Those trans-gradient'ed stripes do really fit IMO, and the asymmetric rear end (like it had a side exhaust, did anybody notice that?) is really nice ![]() Only thing, I think that those side windows look pretty plain. Ever thought about adding something to them, i.e. a small dark border, or internal subdivisions (either in black or in the car's tone)? |
