Hey again.
From the carbox thread side discussion and Phantom's brilliant mind comes forth with RVLRC2!
This one is a bit different from normal, but no major changes.
Parameters are NOT to be edited. Since I plan on making more than one of these 'repaint only' comps, for multiple cars in the same style. This competition is meant to do two things.
1. Make a skin for Toyeca (This comp is Toyeca only, and must be based on the stock Toyeca's body.prm)
2. The skin is supposed to be used for online play, or offline replacement. Eventually if we ever do get all the cars done, every single stock car, we could release it as a mod or giant skin pack or something rather, but that's getting ahead a bit.
We started with Toyeca because it's most used online. We'll proceed to Humma, Cougar, and AMW respectively.

[line][/line]

The rules:
[doHTML]

Your car MUST be a repaint of stock Toyeca. It may not be ToyTotalFreedom.

No parameter changes should be included in your final car.

Submissions need to have a working download link, a picture, and obviously a name.

Your car MUST have a RVL logo or text.

You may only submit one car for a final entry.

Final submissions must be turned in by May 1st. There may be an extension, but don't guarantee on it.

Voting poll closed after 20 votes.

[/doHTML]

[line][/line]

Good luck all, and I hope you participate! Even if your skin doesn't win it will be included in the megapack later down the road.

Getting in, even if I think I can't win.
Oh, so it shouldn't be 100% RVL based, just needing a logo somewhere... Good to hear that :P

Starting to think about some ideas btw... ;)

Finally ! I participate in this competition(help) of repaint, of course ! ^_^
In 1st May seems to me short, but I think I can return my work in time.

Edit : Have you a link or a topic with all the logos of available RVL? Because for it, I have no materials (Except for the big logo RVL), but that remains feasible, it will be a challenge furthermore ;)

Since this is kind of a form of advertising...are there some specific things you would like to advertise about RVL? What sort of characteristics would you like to see this car embody?

You probably don't have one of these [size0](a mascot), but to further illustrate the vibe I'm looking for...is there some kind of mascot, generally-accepted figure, catch-phrase or even vehicle that people around here identify with?...that you would want plastered all over the side of a car, that is. I know Harvester's ponytar comes to mind for me, but that's a little too focused, if you get my drift. I'm looking for something that everyone can kind of agree on that represents RVL as a whole.

And are there specific colors associated with RV Live? I used red and yellow in the logo I made, but those are colors that I associate with Re-Volt in general, not perhaps RV Live specifically, if you know what I mean. The forum though, has more of a blue theme goin' on. Maybe how about this...are they any colors that you would like to be associated with RVL?

Anyone and everyone is free to answer these questions. Both myself and others can use them as inspiration for our work. :)

In the interest of helping everyone achieve some nice high-quality designs...for anyone who is not yet aware, a good font to use is 'Serpentine'. This is the one that is used for the lettering on Boss Volt, for example. I'll probably be using it so maybe I'm shooting myself in the foot, but there is an endless number of ways to make use of the text and that is not the only good font out there, so maybe not. :D

I'd also like to remind everyone that the alpha release allows for bigger textures so I would recommend trying out 512x512 for your texture sizes to get crisper text and smoother lines. You can go up to 1024x1024, but I would not personally advise it as I see it as a largely unecessary waste of texture memory. The 512's do a wonderful job of capturing most details. Just be sure to name that one .bmo and make a smaller 256x256 .bmp version for final release for compatibility. :)

[size0](Yeah, I know most of you already know that stuff, but maybe we'll get some new people showing up to try their hand at this.)

And oh yeah...good luck to everyone, I hope to see some really awesome repaints from you guys! :D

'Catch phrase'? There are plenty of those, just ask Dave about his Bliggity Blurgh sentences or stuff like that.

About colour schemes: Well, the forum always used to be blue with the standard RV logo (with a small 'LIVE!' text part added under it) back in time, it was just changed little time ago... we even had custom Xmas/winter-styled logos for a while :P

@zipperrulez: I would have a question. Is it possible to change the front and rear lights, the rims or the air intakes at the front and back?

I do not know what that means with ToyTotalFreedom.

I do not know what that means with ToyTotalFreedom.

ToyTotalFreedom is an entirely remapped Toyeca, so you could make an actual paintjob without any of it being mirrored.

Nope, then its not a stock toyeca anymore, so no 3D modellers are allowed.

"no 3D modellers are allowed" *Stay calm stay calm* you mean no modification on mesh I HOPE!!

Well, toyeca's mapping is really a... well I don't want to say this word, mmh, it's weak *100000, so if we can't use ToytotalFreedom's UVmapping, then I don't want to be in anymore, sorry :s (AMW's mapping is better, I will participate with this car later)

What's wrong with you people? Not up for a little challenge? :D

I'll tell you what, when I first thought about doing this I wasn't super excited about using the regular Toyeca's mapping, either. (see my post in the carbox thread for proof) I take a look at the stock paint job though, and the ones that were repainted for the other forums...and you know what I think?

It can be done. And it can be done well.

Would I rather have a better mapping setup? Yes....yes, I would. The parameters for this competition however, are restricted by the fact that the car in question will be raced online by a bunch of people who all need to be working with the same files on their computer.

Okay, let's think about that for a second. :D

Mythic

[...]the car in question will be raced online by a bunch of people...

Hey, wait a minute...that sounds pretty sweet. A lot of people could be driving YOUR car...a car that YOU worked hard on and are proud of how it turned out despite the challenges involved. You took on a daunting task and you made the end product shine like a wet diamond glittering in the morning sun. And every time people race with YOUR car they will be thinking happy thoughts about what a great job you did with such a tough car. Your Rep Points will see a significant increase and girls will start to see you just a little bit differently...see that you are walking just a bit taller, that twinkle in your eye and spring in your step that much more appealing. B)

In addition to all that, you yourself will get to race this car...with your paint job...and every time you do, I guarantee that you will feel a satisfying swell of pride that comes from a tough job well done. That's not a feeling you can buy, it's not one you can guess how it feels...it's only one that you earn...and it is one of the best feelings you will experience in this lifetime. :)

So yeah, we all know this is not a car that is easily repainted...and that's exactly what will make your efforts all the more worthwhile. As for me, I'm working on mine right now. :D

So do something that you can do with the current mapping. Just consider that as part of the challenge. :D

I know you have this in you, Halogaland. I know you have the talent, anyway...you'll have to find the desire and motivation on your own. I assure you those are in there too, though. :) C'mon, Halo! I wanna see what you will do with the Toyeca! <cheers for Halo> :D

[size0]Your cat thinks you can do it...I'm sure if you were to ask him he would tell you as much. He believes in you, Halogaland...can you really let him down? :(

The fact that I'm seeing car repainters much better than myself dropping out because of Toyeca's mapping is a tad disappointing...

On a lighter note, I'm in.

You're a prince among men, Dave. I applaud your fighting spirit and as I myself am a rather big fan of lighter notes... [size0]and shiny things, but that's not important right now...I raise a glass to that as well. :D

As for you Halo, I know you won't be daunted by this little task. In fact, I think there is part of you that really wants to see what a great job you can do on this...and I, for one, am looking forward to seeing what kind of magic one of my favorite car makers can work on this iconic vehicle. :D

EDIT: xIMG, PLEASE!!!!!!!

Such a paintjob can be 80% recreated on Toyeca's stock .prm as well. I just think you'll have a bit of trouble on the sides, that's all.

Side note: To avoid mapping bugs, we'd probably need to recreate paintjobs which kind of 'reflect' Toyeca's one. I mean, if it was designed to have a stripe, then you can play around with striped patterns quite freely without causing bugs, and that's what I thought of doing. Also, I guess that Toyeca will most likely fit gradient-ed stripings (or stripes with patterns) quite well...
Thought of randomly throwing this in, just in case :P

EDIT: Oh, just a thing. Are we allowed to put in custom shadows? Just asking this because it'd involve param line adding...

I asked this question also. It is understandable, everybody does not use the last version of Re-Volt 1.2 :)

I was actually going to ask about that since I've now got mine pretty much done. Should we post our work, then? How did you want to do this?

I should mention that mine is mostly done...which means I'm pretty happy with it and it will probably look much like it does now, but I do plan on fiddling with the details a bit. Just so you know that whatever I do post won't be the final version until the end of the comp. :D

Sorry to double post, but I wanted to make sure people knew there was new activity in the thread.

Okay, peeps...in an effort to try to make things easier for anyone who is having trouble with the Toyeca's mapping and maybe get some more people interested in the competition I have put together a .psd file that should serve as a fairly easy-to-use template for repainting the Toyeca. There was a little additional info that I also decided to include as well that might be helpful to you repainters out there. :D
