Hey guys...I don't do too much of this stuff so maybe you can help me out. :)

I have found info about how to post videos, but not too much on exactly what you do to create them in the first place. I am assuming that I will need to convert the size, but how are you guys setting things up to take the capture? Are you using windowed mode, capturing the window, then editing the result? And what resolution are you using?

Camtasia failed when I tried 1600x1200...I know, I was dreaming big, but I figured I would resize it later anyway. Even using 800x600 in fullscreen resulted in a pretty choppy vid, though. Using windowed mode helps with that, but it's actually a lot harder to drive that way for me. For most cars it might not matter, but I'm trying to cap a vid of my Amanra XT SuperPro Stunt version and going 70-80 mph is quite a bit different than your standard driving experience. :D

The whole point of the vid is to show that the car can actually be driven well despite it's insane speed...but that kind of goes in the crapper if I can't drive it well myself due to the inablity to capture in fullscreen. Maybe I'm just going to have to get used to it...or you'll just have to believe me when I say "No, really...that normally doesn't happen." as the vid shows me slamming into the stack of tires on Namco Racer.

Any info you can provide would be most appreciated. :)

I use Fraps, capturing 640x480, windowed-mode vids, resulting in a decent 30 FPS. However, my PC is still 5 years old, so you may get higher performance, even with a greater resolution. Then, any video editing software might fit, but don't even think about using WMM (Windows Movie Maker): it always leads me to a crash when importing the vids I record.
Not to mention that a 3-min, 640x480 video is about 1,5 GBs when recorded by Fraps... o_O

Cool, I'll try 640x480.

So...how about this? If the resolution is the same, does it really matter if you are capturing fullscreen or in windowed mode? Aren't you recording the same number of pixels and the same amount of information in either case?

Right if viewed from the recording program's view, wrong if viewed from the PC's view itself. You can get better _game framerates_ while playing in windowed mode.

That makes sense. I don't expect this to be pretty...

I just FRAPS at around 70 - 80 fps and it works okay for me. Due to some balls up that happened with my pc ages go, I have to use a converter to even watch em but hey, looks cool in 1080p right?

Also, take my advice from personal experience here. NEVER EVER EVER EVER use Camtasia. It is the biggest POS ever made.

Yeah, I do seem to recall having to use it at some point in the past...and not being very happy with it. It's been years since I tried to cap any vids, though. I looked into FRAPS, but the free version has too many restrictions. Not really wanting to raise the flag with the skull and crossbones on it and sail into dangerous waters looking for an um, alternative...I downloaded another one that at least sounded good. This was was called PlayClaw, but I couldn't get it to start recording. I guess it's not compatible with Re-Volt.

I also don't really want to fill my harddrive with screen cap programs either, so I have actually managed to cap a couple of vids with Camtasia, which is at this point already installed. Now I just need to try editing them. The sound is absolute scritchy crap so I think I might try to cut that out and replace it with some kind of music track.

Eh...we'll see how it goes. At least with the second vid I was able to race fullscreen at 800x600. :D I'm not worried too much about performace lag affecting my driving since I am capping the replay, not me actually racing.

That can be arranged...

I'll see if I can work something out. :)

EDIT:
Alright, I got a video capped finally. I -might- be on my way to making something happen.
