Two days had passed since the wheechair man had been sent away from Gateway. Rock couldn't help but wonder what he meant by 'more direct persuasion.'

"Rock!" Tommy from the security group was running his way, waving and pointing back to the pair of Taurus Mobile Dolls that were walking out of the hangar. "They keep listing their status as 'on partol.' Something about probability of hostilities or somethin, I don't know what to do."

"Shut 'em down for now, I'll have Miyuki take a look later." Rock said, looking out across the battered cityscape, "It'd be easy to sneak even a Mobile Suit fairly close to us... But we'd hear it coming before it was close enough to hit us... So why do I feel so nervous?" Rock thought as he began walking briskly toward the hangars.

"Wait what are you doing?" Rock and Amuro said simultaneously, as they met at the hangar door, F90 loaded for battle and Rock looking determined to go searching for a fight.

Both pilots hesitated to explain, but Rock spoke first as Amuro's hologram materialized at the F90's feet. "Well, the Dolls got spooked, so I figured I'd go check the perimiter..." He tried to sound casual, but Amuro wasn't convinced.

"You don't look like someone who plans to just 'check the perimiter.' You saw something didn't you? There's something coming this way right?"

Rock wasn't sure how to word it, he hadn't seen anything, he just couldn't shake this feeling that Cairin was about to make good on his threat. "I didn't see anything, I'm just being cautious... What about you? Walking around on your own is strange enough, but why are you carrying a beam rifle? And who said you could run off without me anyway?"

Now it was Amuro who had to explain. "Newtypes can sense the presence of others like them Rock. I know I'm a machine now, but just now I could've swore I felt the same pressure that the real Amuro did when he fought Newtypes."

Rock was confused, but never got the chance to question it as a white Mobile Suit touched down, standing silently as Gateways alarms sounded. The visiting mercenaries took shelter as their machines were under repair, and the manned MERCS units Gundam[G] and Serpent moved in to ward off the intruder.

"Silence your alarms, I mean your base no ill intent." Cairin said calmly. Both Rock and Amuro looked in awe at the Gundam that stood before them. "No way..." Rock said, Amuro also stuttered at the sight, "It's..." They both came to the conclusion simultaneously, "F70!?"

For a machine, having a flashback was an odd experience, Amuro's cpu suddenly replayed events from years past, his sensors inexplicably seeing the white Gundam F70, torn asunder and fading from view as the Grand Zam lay waste to the SNRI university, sparing no one. For Rock however, the image was different. Fire and cumbling buildings surrounding a white machine with a sinister red hue. A monster in the view of a child who sat at the bloodied corpses of his parents. Even then, he didn't cry, but was burning with rage at the enemy he couldn't hope to defeat. Revenge seemed so far away then, but it stood before him now, and with F90 he surely had the means to take it.

"Amuro," Rock said, not even turning to look at his mechanical friend, "This is my fight, I want you to shut down or go offline or whatever it is you do." Rock walked right through the hologram and into the kneeling F90's cockpit. Unable to voice an objection, Amuro simply dissapeared as he went into passive mode, putting full control in Rock's hands for the first time.

As the F90 powered up and stood, Cairin's face appeared on the monitor. "I'll make you a deal, defeat me, and you won't hear from my people again, fail and--" "I'm going to kill you today." Rock interrupted, about to shut off the comms when Cairin made his voice heard once more.

"Oh, this is the suit they used for that operation.... How wonderful, I"ll get to see what you're really made of now." He said smiling, Rock didn't know if the old man was admitting to killing his parents, or if he simply knew who did and why. None of it mattered though, all he could think about was destroying the F70, erasing one more part of his past so he could start over.

Cairin wanted to talk longer, talking was a good weapon, in his mind only a fool would chasten a soldier for giving a speech on the battlefield, so long as the speech demoralized the enemy. He wanted to try to twist Rock's past with this machine into a knot and keep the boy off his game, but Rock wouldn't give him the chance. F90 charged in, swinging a beam saber at the enemy, who surprisingly evaded with little effort. Without hesitating, Rock turned and slashes again, and again cut air.

"This is a let down... He should be much more than this." Cairin thought, evading another attack before deciding to end this game. As Rock moved in for another strike, Cairin sidestepped with a downward strike, clubbing the F90 across the back and stumling it across the field. As F90 turned around, F70 fired a beam from it's forearm, cleaving the left arm from the newer Gundam. Rock knew he didn't have time to be surprised at the attack, and instead rushed forward, managing to dodge a second beam and make a wide swing of his beam saber. Just as victory seemed assured, a beam saber blade sprouted from F70's forearm cannon, parrying the attack and tripping Rock's Gundam with ease.

"Have I made my point yet boy?" Cairin said mockingly, his bloodlust was getting to him, this boy was nothing special, and there were plenty of easier targets in the area. The more he thought about it, the more he felt his superiors wouldn't mind if Rock died and someone more managable was taken in for the project. Cairin kicked the F90's beam saber away, and leveled his forearm cannon at the suit's cockpit. "I've changed my mind, we don't need someone like you in our organization. You're too weak, you probably couldn't even handle the enhancements."

Rock tried to move, but F70 had other plans, the cannon was a bluff, and instead the older Gundam began punching and kicking the newer one, denting and breaking pieces of F90. The violent shock of each blow tossed Rock in the cockpit, eventually knocking him unconscious. Cairin seemed to realize this, and again extended a beam blade from his arm cannon, "I guess it's all over now, what a waste of my time, he could never reach the level of a Newtype like me." he said, raising his arm to strike as the serpent leveled it's gatling gun on the F70.

"I think that's quite eno--" The pilot began to say, but was cut short at surprisingly the F90 launched to it's feet, pulling it's other saber and forcing aside the F70's blade, staring it down, eye-to-eye.

"This... this is impossible!" Cairin shouted, a feeling like a dagger stabbing into his brain. "Katai's no Newtype! What is this!?"

F90 fired it's head vulcans point-blank, shredding into the head of F70 and killing Cairin's main cameras. Cairin retreated, firing his beam cannons madly, but none would hit their mark. As his backup cameras came online, he would see his fate coming to meet him as F90 rushed at his battered suit.

"YOU THINK YOU'RE A NEWTYPE!? YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A NEWTYPE IS!" Amuro shouted, stabbing hard with the saber, and dragging it up from the F70's waist. As the beam saber neared the F70's cockpit, Cairin stared in awe at the F90.

"Unbelievable, it's more than just a machine! That AI.... it really is Amuro Ray!" he uttered his final realization as the saber burned away everything inside the cockpit, and the F70 fell to it's knees.

Rock was groggy as he came to, hearing the muffled sounds of voices outside the F90. It sounded like they wanted him to open the hatch, but he couldn't see to find the control. It took him a moment to realize that the power was completely out in the cockpit, and before he could do anything Miyuki was cranking on the manual release. The hatch creeked open, and Rock stumbled out.

"What's wrong with F90? The power's dead... Is Amuro... ok?" Rock muttered, rubbing his sore cranium and stumbling to a seat as Miyuki ignored him and dove into the Gundam, opening access panels and trying to assert the cause of the problem.

Rock's vision was beginning to clear, and he looked around, spotting the burning hulk of the F70, it's fuel had ignitied causing an explosion, apparently damaging F90 with shrapnel. Looking at the damage to his Gundam, the only section not torn apart was the cockpit itself. From the damage to the arms, the answer became clear.

"He... defended me?" Rock thought aloud, noticing the damage just above the cockpit, where the AI was housed. "He didn't even try to protect himself.... "

"Well this is gonna take some time to fix..." Miyuki said to herself noting Rock standing close to the slumped over F90, clenching his fist.

"Damnit Amuro!" He shouted, punching the mobile suit hard, "At least show some sense of self-preservation!"

She walked over to him, grabbing him by the shoulders and turning him away from the broken machine, "Come on now, let's have the doctor take a look at you..." She said, Rock didn't put up a fight as she led him into the small infirmary they had constructed in a small office building.
