"so then what of Naturals and Newtypes who took arms against coordinators?" Arnie said shaking "Are they to be judged as one for the transgressions of those who shared their genetic code or is it only only coordinators, these men you judge as animals for sins they have no part of." Arnie said growing red in the face. "I do not know any one man capable of protecting this planet, I do not believe it should fall to one man. You ask for the world to bow to you, Your opponent asked for the world to band together. I have seen men shot simply for being coordinators while waving the banner that you touted before you made this meeting. All men are human, I for one will never bow to your racist hate. I will not assist you in starting another war, in tearing families apart." Arni finished as he sat down, he cursed himself, he should have known reason would not work on a man who already knew the deception in his words. |

Charlie Alpha listened to the journalist. He had generally failed to ask a question, and mostly used the time for talking as a platform to forward his own ideals. But, in this, CA could sympathize. For what was this debate, but an opportunity to forward platforms. Perhaps this man wasn't as well known as the people on stage, but he nonetheless was experienced in building a popular movement, using the media as a platform. And upon that, Charlie would attack him. "All people must be judged for their actions. As Malcolm Kepler and I have agreed, the genetic background of a person is secondary to the actions they have perpetuated in life. There is not, nor has there ever been, a call from me for genocide. I have merely said what is a popular position - that coordinators, products of ZAFT, hold a degree of responsibility for the colony drops that have killed billions. It is people like this journalist, who attack me on basis accusations of racism and hunger for power, who are the true danger. For he says he wants to band people together - just as Mr. Kepler said -but convienently also take upon themselves to judge certain people as enemies of the public! I say, what seperates men like this journalist from the coordinators who massacred newtypes at Jaburo? What seperates him from the ZAFT officers who decided the Earth Alliance was their enemy, dropping colonies shamelessly? I say to you, I will take no person under my wing who does not volunteer - and unlike the roaming mercenaries who murder without discretion, I will only attack targets who have expressed aggression, who have killed with no reason, who hold no loyalties except to themselves! As I speak, brave volunteers in South America have counter attacked the murders of Jaburo! They will bring them to justice! I say, I call all people to justice! Listen not to men like Mr. Kepler and this journalist, who feign to understand the ways of the world while isolating and outcasting the unlucky few who get in their way! I say, who will fight for the dead of Jaburo? I will fight. Malcolm will not. This journalist, will not. They will stay, in safe places, debating semantics and making comparisons to Hitler and other men of the middle ages. Well, as I said when I arrived - while men like my opponent study the past in our great universities - my place is on the battlefield of land, sea and air - making this world a better place! One day, we will be able to be safe outside of Giga Float or other city states! Those who oppose me fight only for themselves - while I fight only for the people. Who would contest this? I challenge any person - if they are better suited to enforce justice upon the world, let him step forward, and I will step down. Edited by Zepp, May 26 2010, 03:38 AM.

Here, Malcolm felt he ought to break in yet again. "Perhaps the dead at Jaburo would agree that there has been enough fighting. Fighting for revenge only breeds more violence. When will the cycle stop? When your enemies are all dead at your feet? Who will remain? You say that we will remain safe, but the past begs to differ. Where was my safety at your Newtype rally? I have not given up danger to pursue a life of safety; the opposite is true! Without a mobile suit, how will I be safer? Without teammates to protect me, how will I be safer? I have said that my ideas will fight for me - that they will serve as my defense - but words cannot stop a bullet from a man with deaf ears. "I have studied the past and though much regarding our future, but my real focus is the present! Why else would I be here, engaging a man with modern ideas? My opponent seeks to make the land, sea and air his battlefield. Who will be safe, then? His allies? No. He himself has admitted that they will risk danger to pursue their ideas. His enemies? No. He has also promised to chase after them relentlessly, until none are left. What of those who haven't chosen sides? What of those who are caught in the middle of this war? While men hurl ideas and missiles over their heads, will they be more concerned with their ideas, or their lives, and the lives of their families? My opponent wishes to start a war that will span the globe. Who will be safe? How will this help rebuild the world, apart from tearing it apart, as Char intended, so that it could be built anew? "Justice may be enforced only by those in authority. A judge gives a verdict, the community respects it, and the offender is punished. I ask my honorable opponent: Who are you to enforce justice on the entire world? You may say 'You have also judged,' but I have not taken it upon myself to enforce my judgment; I know that I cannot, and that I have no right. It is mankind as a whole who has done wrong, and it is mankind as a whole who must accept and enforce justice. Such a change can only come about slowly, and according to the will those involved. "My opponent has called for one better-suited to enforce justice, but there is no single man who is suited to enforce this man's judgment on the human race. He has said that we pretend to understand, that we isolate and cast away any who get in our way. Let him give examples from my personal history of any such actions - of times where I have pursued my own ideas, blind to the truth around me, or avoided or excluded an individual or group solely because they did not agree with me. Have I not done the opposite? Let him give examples, or dispense with his tiresome pretensions, which do nothing but detract from our focus and purpose here." |

"A simple example is casting off my endorsement as a manipulative seizure of your ideals. Do you not remember when I knelt at your side, ready to give arms to your vision of a peaceful world? Malcolm - while I understand that peace is one of the highest virtues mankind can achieve, it will not come through surrender. Someone must police the neighborhood for it to be safe. In the absence of a better man, I've taken that burden upon myself. The most important issue for us all to reflect on is this. It is wise for a community to declare war in public forum, using their words as weapons. Wisely, all of you have interrogated me to the validity, authority, and purpose of my arms. But I ask you - what other alternative is there? Are we going to live in anarchy forever? Mars, Jupiter, all these places have rules and regimentation. Why is it that the most important of Sol's planets, the homeland to all races, lies in disorganization? What purpose is there in defending ruins and championing anarchy? As I have said before and I will say again - I am a man of hatred - hatred of injustice and genocide. I am a man of power - the power to stand up to the murderers who roam like marauders over the skies of South America today. But much more than this, I am a man of weakness. One man can change the world, but the world must agree to its change. Tell me, when will you take up arms to change things yourself! When will you get tired of highwaymen, mercenaries, and corrupt officials stealing away wealth while the common people toil in poverty! What will it take! For those that say arms are unnecessary in their vision of utopia - speak to our hosts! Should they cast their arms at your feet as well? Nay I say! A thousand times nay! We are lucky that the world has achieved the interdependent liberalization that a right to bear arms in the absence of authority grants. But now it is time for mercenaries to become militia, for highwaymen to become police officers, and for governments to be purified of corruption! The world must be reformed! Who dares speak against this holy mission?" |

"I think our audience knows where we both stand," Malcolm said. It was all he could do not to stalk away from the podium after what we judged a well-deserved tirade of righteous indignation. But he was far too disciplined and diplomatic for that, and settled for a brief, but polite closing statement. "And if we do not wear ourselves out first, I am sure they will grow weary of listening to our ideas. Anyone with further questions for me may direct them to me via personal correspondence, and I will do my best to answer them to your satisfaction. Thank you for your time, and for your thoughts; I hope your understanding has grown as a result of this discussion." Finally, he turned to his opponent. "I commend your honorable intentions, but deplore your methods. Nevertheless, I hope that you can bring some peace, safety and restoration to this world that we all share. I wish you, and the rest of humanity, nothing but the best." With that, he strode gracefully, confidently from the podium, past the crowd, out the building, through the streets of Giga-Float, into the Virtus. He had a mobile suit to sell, a speaking tour to contemplate, and a future to plan. |

Charlie saluted his opponent as he left. Opposed or unopposed, Malcolm Kepler was a powerful man. It would've been suicidal to attack him outright - aligning worked much better to his methods. "As my honored opponent said, the time for speaking is done. It is now time for action. I leave you with this advice. Do what is right, because it is right. Help me bring justice to the dead - all of the dead. Rise up from your sleeping graves into this broken world of ours, and help me fix it. I do not need only your arms, but your hope and dreams as well. One day, we will be able to live in peace - but many days of war are ahead. I urge all to be mindful of this. To those who are interested in the reborn earth movement, aligned or opposed, I direct you to my office here on Giga Float. I will answer each visitor personally. Thank you, and good day." Charlie walked down the aisles, out the building, and into the roaming crowds. The debate was over. Edited by Zepp, May 27 2010, 03:35 AM.

Enki stared at eh man as he passed close by, there was something off about him. Something not right, it was not just his ideals but something physical. Arnie shivered in his seat from rage, this man had made a mockery or every ideal of journalism Arnie had ever known, Arnie despite his rage, was not a violent man and as the man passed by, the novice reporter sat back in his seat frowning. As Charlie alpha turned the corner Enki noticed something about the way he turned, his waist guided his turn rotating flatly, there were other signs but this, this tied all of them together. Enki's eyes widened at the realization, he had been around sophisticated technology and had a front row seat to human biology all throughout his young life, it was knowledge that had helped him as a mobile suit pilot but, Enki could hardly believe what he was thinking, he had heard stories about the Jupiter empire but, he never expected this. Now it all made sense, the hologram at the conference in south america, and now a man who looked identical to a man who went MIA hundreds of years ago. Charlie Alpha was not a man pulling the strings through robotic puppets, he was a robot himself. As ridiculous as the notion was, there were surely only a handful of men around that new of such things much less had the resources to create such a thing. Enki would need confirmation however he would need a lead. As Enki packed up his camera, Arnie fumed behind him. "Can you believe it!?" Arnie yelled as the crowd funneled out from around them. "The first formal debate in who knows how long and it's a circus act!" "Isn't that how debates always were?" Enki said calmly, playing the part of a nonchalant cameraman well. "NO! dammit, I'm going to south America, i want to see that colony of his, I'll reveal that man for the charlatan that he is." "Good luck Arnie, I think I may go on vacation for a while, be careful." heh man Enki smiled at the true irony those words now held for him as he finished prepping his gear for the trip home. |
