The Great Debate

Jameson landed the Manager Gundam down slowly on the artificial island known as Giga-Float. It was a long journey and he had to pay smelly Colombian to ferry him over as his private jet was still undergoing repairs. As M1 Astrays rushed to greet him, and inquire as to the reason of his presence at the Neutral ground, Jameson opened up the cockpit and jumped on out, surprising his audience with a spiffy business suit, which somehow worked as his G Gundam power suit. He then proceeded to explain why a man of his stature was summoned to the neutral territory to cover such a menial task, all while lighting his his Cigar, casually as ever.

"Relax, I'm here for the debate. Unfortunately my Channel 5 news anchor and reporter, Scarth Maheart could not make it, so I have been summoned to cover and mediate the debate. I can see the headlines now "Newspaper Owner Covers Schoolgirl Quarrel".You aren't going to give me trouble are you? I came a long way and had to traverse through ZAFT's nice souvenirs they left for Earth. Even stepped out to take a picture to send to the grand kids. Then I had to haggle with a Colombian ship captain who spoke as much English as a Vietnamese prostitute. "Que?" was what I got for the majority of the negotiation. So, yeah I'm not in the mood."

The leading pilot sighs and then replies. "I assure you, we were fully briefed of your arrival....its just that we don't allow smoking on the island."

The words echoed in Jameson's head as he froze up in frustration. After he thought about it, it was not surprise that he wasn't welcomed as a foe, as there were no reports of giant robots in tuxedos, smoking cigars, attacking villages or fortifications. He proceeded to put out his cigar, not letting it get to him.

"Well then, if you don't mind" he said, taking a flask out of his suit coat pocket and taking a swig "I'm going to need this."

"If you would follow us to the lecture room, where you can wait for the others."

Jameson then followed. He found a place to sit, but it was very uncomfortable. He missed his rich mahogany desk, and his antique La-Z-boy sofa chair. It was surprisingly older than he was. This remembrance sparked the idea of perhaps putting a desk and seating in his Manager Gundam, therefore he could get more tasks done. He would ponder on this some more later, but for now, he thought of debaters. On one side was the Martian Aristocrat, a pilot who he had fought on battle. The pilot seemed to lack experience, but his mobile suit somehow made up for that, as if it had a mind of its own. On the other side was Malcolm Kepler, a civil rights activist and author of the book Genetic Freedom: For Humanity. The book was an instant hit in the colonies, and especially in the Orb capital where such ideals were already practiced. This would be the first time Jameson would see Malcolm in person, and despite his distrust for Orb, he viewed Malcolm's work as a well needed step to revitalizing a war torn Earth, plagued by extremism, disease, and warfare.

Johnny Dawson stood behind a podium, adjusting his collar. *Inside* the podium, Charlie Alpha fed him lines. The hologram ruse couldn't work forever, and using Johnny seemed to be an extension of Charlie's mobile suit philosophy. The small red droid printed out note cards, which Johnny laid on the podium, reading each one and trying to get the gist of it. When Charlie asked him to do this for him, he gave him one condition. Johnny would never have to deal with CA's hijacks again. He was there as an official spokesman of the Blue Zeon movement.

"Earth. The homeland of all human beings and their genetic offshoots. Today, May 20th, 2363, we stand here united. In the interest of furthering the greater human race and all of its genetic off... springs, we come here today. But why is this necessary? Where is the Earth Alliance? Where are the governments? Destroyed, de... stroyed by coordinators. Since the founding of the Zay-ft Alliance, coordinators have tried to destroy our mother, and poison our kids. Now we must ask ourselves - are the people who dropped colonies on Earth in an effort to massacre our population to be included in our future reorganization? How are coordinators and ZAFT connected? Will we let mercenary groups screw with our trees and stuff forever? Today, we'll get an answer."

Charlie beeped. Not exactly what he wrote, but it'd work.

Enki leaned up against a wall, mounting his camera on his left shoulder, next to the sitting Arnie. They had met up on Giga-float earlier and had taken their seats earlier. Enki was sporting his now habitual baseball cap and a camera bag filled with film and, hidden among them, a couple of flashbangs in case things went sour. It was a tense atmosphere as Enki watched Johnny mount the stage, Enki smiled watching the man whom had hidden behind a hologram in days before now stumble over his words. Truly Johnny was not as great of a public speaker that he had been in the conference. Though, Enki wondered if this man was just another proxy, taking the stage to hide the real speaker from view.

"Heat, any trouble?" Enki whispered through a small ear piece hidden from view on his left ear.

"what?" Arnie said thinking he was the intended recipient of the question. "The temperature is fine, maybe a little warm but, that's part of being in a crowded hall right Enki?"

"Right. just be happy you don't have fifty pounds to support on your shoulder." Enki said quickly covering for his blunder.

"ha ha, yeah but this is gonna be great, some of the best news in decades!" Arnie said smiling and clenching his notepad.

"Oh? isn't it just a normal debate?" Enki said not diverting his gaze from the camera

"It's been a long time since anyone has had a debate, ah I think Mr. Kepler is coming in soon." Arnie said noticing some chatter in the crowd.

Enki silently thought it was weird for Arnie to take such a tone in conversation, he was hardly any older than Enki maybe a bit younger and yet he talked like an old vet. Maybe it was the company he kept, hearing about things in the newsroom but, Enki could only guess.

"Heat, any trouble?" Enki asked through the comm link.

"All clear so far." responded Jaiden, checking his cameras and radar for what seemed like the thousandth time since getting set up. The N Dagger N Kai stood watch against possibly aggressive mobile suits that may attack the debate.

The debate could be a great step toward peace, but there weren't always people who wished for peace. Some of the people actually believed the anti coordinator propaganda that was Charlie Alpha's agenda. There were those who fought for a "Pure Blue Earth" void of Coordinators and Newtypes. Then there were those who just wanted war. they just wanted to see everybody destroy each other. They'd do whatever it took to spark the flames of war. These people were the most dangerous. Jaiden had done some work for these people, and know what they're capable of doing.

"Na, anything where you are?"

"Nothing yet. I'm still looking. Can't find Surge anywhere though."

"Ok keep looking. Oh, one more thing."

"What?"

Jaiden had his camera zoomed in an a little stand.

"Can you go to the stand three blocks north northwest and get me an order of General Tso Chicken? I'm starving."

Standing in the back Ryder was more concerned at first with the state of his Astraea. That awkard encounter with the Impulse had caused more damage than he had hoped. It also cost him an arm an leg to get it repaired by the Junk Guild crew he had hired to do the job. The price? He had to be at their beck in call for one assignment they needed done no questions asked. That could be anything but if it meant getting his precious machine back up to speed he could pay the price.

But as the debate started he listened to that Alpha guy speak and scratched his head confused. The stumbling over lines caught him as odd. This was the feared hitlerbot he had heard about by folks he had talked too? This guy was either an idiot, a horrible public figure, or a fake because there was noway a guy that sounded this retarded could be a real threat. Instead he chose to watch this fellow more closely because something was wrong. Even more odd was that fellow he had talked to yesterday who was suppose to be this guy's helper. Looking around he could be seen, or picked out in the crowd. He figured the guy would be close by in order to make the pro-Charlie crowd look bigger than it was.

So with curiousity filling his mind Ryder began to move around the crowd closer to the stage to get a better view.

Zelpher had begged and pleaded with the Junk Guild to fix his Impulse at a discounted price. To no avail nothing worked until I said three words that rang songs of bliss in the Junk Guild ears, "I'll do anything..." With that they came to an agreement and off he went to the debate. Cursing his inexperience with his suit made him more frustrated then anything. When his frustration was at a boiling point he stop and silently took a deep breath. He wanted to take his cigarettes out of his packet and light up, but with all the guards on the prowl and the fact that GF was a non-smoking environment didn't help either. The crimson hair pilot sighed and grabbed an energy from a stall before going heading towards the building.

"I'm sorry sir, but no food or beverages are permitted inside." Said a guard in a tone so dull he sounded like a robot. Xeis looked at his drink took a breath and started to gulp it down. The guard looked astonished at how animated Zelpher made himself look while downing his energy drink. After it was done he shook the can and looked around saw a recycling can a few meters away he ground the distance and tossed the can while walking in. The guard angrily said, "Hey asshole make sure that get in!" while walking in Zelpher looked back and gave a thumb pointed in the direction of the flying can. The guard looked back to see the can hit the rim and somersault in the air until it went in. He stood shocked for a moment then looked back to see the young man gone. With a smirk the only thing the guard said was, "Damn coordinator showing off."

Once inside he took at look around and saw his buddy Alec Goodwin give him a slight wave. He headed over to him and asked him what he missed, "It only started a little while ago. No outbreaks yet or anything like that. How's your photo shoot?" Zelpher thought about it for a moment and replied, "My manager wants me to not only do the a few here on Giga-Float, but he also wants me to do one on that new sensation in Tokyo. PLUS wants me to be in Hawaii to do a gig." Alec gave a small laugh and replied, "That's what you get for not only being a model, but a photographer as well." Xeis waved off the comment and asked Alec for his camera. He stood up and went near the front to start taking photos.

Malcolm was posed perfectly behind the podium, exactly as he'd planned with Everie. His arms hung relaxed and loose at his sides, and his gaze swept slowly across the audience as he spoke. He tried to make eye contact with specific people, to connect with them, make them feel like he was talking to them, specifically. He spoke from memory; the papers in front of him were in case of emergency only, or if he needed to read a quote from one of CA or his earlier speeches, an outside source, or his book. They were organized by source type with small colored tabs. Malcolm had wanted to use a computerized system for organizing them, but Everie had insisted that a small stack of papers would make him more relatable; despite all the talk of a paper-free society, the tangible appeal of paper remained.

"Ladies and gentlemen: We have come together today from a plethora of backgrounds - genetic, racial, historical and academic - to discuss one simple concept: cooperation. Can humanity cooperate for the common (and greater) good, or will we continue to create artificial divisions, nurturing our hate and tending only to our own interests? Together, we have come to witness a conflict between two differing viewpoints, but have we not come because, when it comes down to it, we desire concordance? We want others to agree with us, to work together with us, because together, we can be strong.

"I for one, greatly desire this harmony of the human will, where we can all cooperate, whether we are Naturals, Newtypes or Coordinators. The differences between us are small, but amplified by those who would separate us into groups. But all of us love, feel grief, have ambition and dreams, and desire acceptance. Do these not run deeper than a person's genetic code? Does the modification of a few sections of our DNA make us less than human, or more?

"I say that it does not. Historically, a person's ambition, upbringing and character have served to define them as people so much more than their DNA. Our genetic heritage is simply raw material for us to work with. Our dignity and responsibility as human beings is not derived from our DNA, but from our abilities and our choices.

"My opponent paints a picture of a future for earth free of Coordinators. But by what principle does he exclude an entire group of humanity from humanity's cradle. Earth is as much a Coordinator's home as it is Natural's or Newtypes. He may argue that space was the birthplace of the Coordinator and the Newtype, but this is untrue. Humanity has been billions of years in the making; Newtypes and Coordinators have emerged within the last couple centuries. And if they blossomed in space, they were nurtured far longer on earth.

"We all have a responsibility to take care of our home. The world does not need a Blue Zeon, but considerate human beings who will care for earth while responsibly utilizing its resources. My opponent wishes to exile Coordinators, relieving them of this responsibility, and exiling them from humanity. This is the future envisioned by Blue Zeon. But if Coordinators are exiled, then why are Newtypes welcomed? There is no basis for these distinctions in treatment, which leads me to the first question I pose to my opponent: What roles will Naturals, Coordinators and Newtypes play in the future Blue Zeon is striving to create?"

Malcolm realized he was trembling imperceptibly - and he stilled himself with a thought. His self-discipline would not fail him now. He would debate well, speak well, and stand well. Nothing would get in the way of getting his ideas to his audience clearly; his mannerisms should help his ideas, not hinder them. He stared fixedly at the young man speaking for CA, awaiting his response. He dared not steal a glance toward Everie, but he was almost certain she was pleased with his delivery.

Johnny listened to the long opening speech of Malcolm Kepler. Though to this day, they had never met, as a child of Zeon upbringing and aristocracy, the kind of future Malcolm was arguing for struck a deep cord with him.

"What Mr. Kepler says would be correct, IF coordinators were an innocent genetic race such as newtypes, or simply a difference species like monkeys or things like that. But coordinators are not! They were manufactured by the Zodiac Alliance of Freedom treaty for a simple purpose - the genocide of all other races. Now, comparisons to newtypes can't be stopped, since as enhanced humans we both rise above the expectations and abilities of the people before us. But there is a different between Zeon and Zaft. When the Republic of Zeon declared itself independent from the Earth Alliance, it was ending years of subservience and oppression by a larger governemnt. However, when ZAFT declared independence from the Earth Alliance, there was no oppression. No subservience. If anything, they operated like a superior species, attacking purely out of malicious superiority. We like to think of enhanced humans as the next stage of evolution - but whereas newtypes are a natural evolution from human beings, coordinators are created artificially, with destinies pre-determined and specialized by their creators. They are more like equipment then people. So what future do coordinators and newtypes play in the future Blue Zeon has to create?

For coordinators, they must atone for their sins. All you need to do is look around the earth and see the colonies looming out like stark coffins in the landscape. No newtype or natural put them there - a coordinator did. Every last one. Now, sure, you can compare Zeon's drop operations in the One Year War to this - however, that had a military purpose. The fall of Island Iffish was aimed at the headquarters of an oppressive federation of planets. Had it been successful, it would have liberated all of humanity from Federation rule. But instead, it fell on innocents. Coordinators, knowledgable of this past, didn't aim for a military target. They didn't aim for anything! They dropped haphazardly, killing scores and scores of people, decimating the earth and turning it into a barren wasteland! 8 years have passed since the drop operations, and we are still unable to recover. Coordinators struck at the heart of our communal mother, as Mr. Kepler puts it. Even now, in the year 2363, coordinators roam the earth with their ZAFT military equipment, trying to finish off the newtypes and naturals once and for all. Just yesterday, a newtype colony in South America was massacred for nothing else other than the coordinator hunger for genocide. Coordinators must be disarmed - and be replaced by newtypes!

Newtypes need to lead the human race into a human century. Unlike our artificial brothers, we have a responsibility to this blue world we call home. I would pose to Mr. Kepler - how many people have coordinators killed? In your career as a mercenary - since you are a mercenary - how many people have you personally injured in the course of your idealistic movement for coordinator advancement? Tell me, what have coordinators done for the world at large besides murder newtypes and naturals? I'm not saying that it's impossible for a coordinator to be reprogrammed to join society at large, but it is not what they were designed for. They were designed to kill - and they have done that on a wipespread scale."

Charlie was speechless. He didn't write any of that! Flustered, he rolled away. If Johnny wasn't going to read his lines, he had better things to do.

"The Coordinators of ZAFT acted like many humans do when they are threatened by a fearful, powerful society: Rather than seek mutual understanding and integration, they sought to alienate themselves from that society, to protect themselves. They saw danger, and sought safety; it is an understandable response.

"But they were not alone in their wrongdoing: The Earth Alliance must have understood the reasoning behind the PLANTs' request for freedom, and the fear on both sides that drove their response. But they did not respect the PLANTs' request for sovereignty. Instead, they sent trained soldiers to enforce the will of a government on collectives of civilians. ZAFT was formed in response to this threat, composed of civilian volunteers, not soldiers bred for war, as you claim. These volunteers were once children, raised as any other child on earth, who had school friends, birthday parties, an education, hopes and dreams.

"You say that Coordinators are artificial humans; it makes us seem almost like androids, robots programmed to do the will of their creators, but this is a grave misunderstanding of the role of our genetic code in determining who we are. A person's genetic code does not carry our ambition, or our choices; it is simply raw material. There is wide variation in the human genetic code naturally; Coordinators were created to explore the more favorable variations, to explore the potential of humanity, not to create a race of warriors! The Coordinators in the PLANTs were placed in an unfortunate position: They could use their talents to defend what was important to them, or they could submit to the will of the Earth Alliance, sacrificing their freedom, and thousands of lives. And like many oppressed before them, they chose freedom. And is Freedom not a most human choice? Is not freedom part of what makes us human - freedom to act, choose and think according to one's principles and skills?

"The war cost many men their lives - soldiers and civilians on both sides were killed. This is the unfortunate nature of war in our time. But such a war could have been averted if people understood the nature of their brothers in the PLANTs, if they understood their humanity. Instead, they heard men like my opponent, decrying their humanity, naming them little more than machines of war. Who would feel remorse in killing a machine, an artificial human? The value of a human life is found in its potential, and that potential is enormous. Both sides warred for what they considered a just cause, but in doing so, they devalued the lives of those against whom they were fighting. They considered taking lives to save lives their only option.

"The number of human lives lost in that war cannot be counted and the actions of both sides are difficult to justify. Both sides believed they were taking lives to save lives, but both sides were mistaken. Still, I acknowledge that Coordinators share as much responsibility as Newtypes or Naturals for the war, and for the casualties caused. Humanity as a whole was responsible; you cannot pin the responsibility on any one group of people any more - or any less - than you could blame an entire city for a murderer who grew up among them.

"You say that Coordinators ought to be held solely responsible for the colony drops, but I say that all of us are to blame. We Coordinators have much to contribute to the restoration of earth, and many of us are willing to accept our responsibility to help rebuild what was lost. But what of you and Blue Zeon? Once, Char Aznable intended to drop a large asteroid on earth, annihilating its entire population. Fortunately, the act of terricide was stopped, but if it had not, would you hold all Newtypes responsible for the tragedy? How would you mete out justice to an entire group of people, for the actions of one?"

"Char Aznable's attempted drop of Axis cannot hold a candle to the genocidal drops of the ZAFT military. Those asteroid drops were done with advanced warning to speed the migration of humanity into space, when the colonies necessary to house them were ready. However, when the ZAFT government ordered the mass genocide of the colony drops, they had no military purpose. It was pure and simple evil, the destruction of the human race - and more clearly, the destruction of the Earth herself! You keep arguing that coordinators are the same as the rest of us - while you are still killing us wholesale! Tell me, what would you say to the newtypes who died at the hands of coordinators in Jaburo! What would you say to the Earth Alliance families to who now lie dead - with no grave save the eerie shadow of a colony?

Tell me, where are the newtypes to migrate to now, how are we to further our race, when you have taken the very things needed for migration and used them to murder! It is murder! And still, you say, that the lives cannot be counted! Well, I say try! For every life the coordinator and their movement has taken, I would expect you to know the name, ambitions, and dreams of each and every person you killed! To trivialize the deaths of your enemies is a travesty! And still, you cannot even name the enemies you have killed and wounded yourself!

I would pose this question to you! If it is ZAFT and their aligned parties who are responsible for the massacre of earthnoids, as well as the creation of beings such as yourself, how can you deny that you still work for them today? How can any coordinator be trusted to work for our blue mother earth, when your superiors and creators still float above us in Messiah, plotting the eventual destruction of all earthnoid species? The world needs us - the men of the ideals of Zeon Zum Deikun - to defend against the enemies of our blue mother earth! When there were colonies, we swore migration, but where there are enemies, we must form ranks with our natural brothers in their defense! Tell me, will you as a coordinator declare rebellion from ZAFT, and join us in wiping that disgrace of a government from our universe?!"

"I present to the audience our past as evidence of our intentions, and of how much we value human life. No lives have been lost as a result of my actions, and only mine has been endangered. The only casualties of any personal engagements of mine have been the armor we wore while fighting. On the other hand, I have been nearly killed no fewer than 3 different times, once at a convention held by my honorable opponent. The men who attempted the assassination were never brought to justice; they probably thought they were doing justice, as instructed by my honorable opponent.

"But surely he meant no personal harm when he called me and other Coordinators 'a hellish invention of the underworld.' Surely there was no animosity behind his words when he said, 'Newtypes must instead form ranks with their natural brethren and form ranks against these hellish contraptions.' Surely, he did not mean all Coordinators when he said 'For peace, for honor and for justice, we newtypes have a holy mission to seek out the ZAFT Resurrection Fleet and destroy it!' He calls for peace and for war in the same sentence, and for justice and an unjust act! He accuses me of trivializing human lives, but has trivialized the humanity of an entire group of people. Can such a man be trusted to understand - or more importantly, protect - the value of a human life? " The sarcasm felt good, but Malcolm was careful to keep his tone light and strong, rather than mocking. But he soon turned serious again.

"My opponent seeks to use the grief and loss of war as a wedge to drive humanity apart. He thinks that understanding will lead us to take sides, and fight, but I say that true understanding of what we have lost will lead us to band together, to accept responsibility for the grievous injury we have inflicted. Furthermore, it will open our eyes to what we can accomplish, together.

"Allow me to turn the audience to another part of my opponent's speech at his so-called "Newtype Conference." (Where the Naturals fit in, he has not addressed!) He said in his speech, 'We newtypes left earth for space, and earth should be left in peace,' yet here he is, campaigning on earth. In the same speech, he said 'The world needs Zeon to defend its blue waters' and that he should cast Coordinators 'into deep space.' Historically, Newtypes have wanted to bring humanity away from earth into space, to accelerate their evolution into Newtypes. Why does he wish to tether Blue Zeon's followers to earth?"

Malcolm hoped the audience would catch his opponent's many contradictions, but in the rapid-fire nature of the speech, surely much would be lost. Perhaps the more interested members would carefully re-read all that had been said, and come to the proper conclusion. He had a lot of faith in humanity, and in their desire for the truth.

Johnny laughed.

"Shame on you, Mr. Kepler! You did not answer my question! Are we to understand that you endorse the actions of the ZAFT government? Are you an agent of them? Then more than ever, I must stand for the blue waters you so haughtily mock! Now, while I am not the same as Charlie Alpha, I, Johnny Dawson, will address each and every one of your concerns, while you may steam roll over my own with your high minded rhetoric and superiority complex that only a coordinator may have.

Now, a hellish invention of the underworld. What words could have more truth to a population which has presided over a military operation to turn earth INTO an underworld? Have you not seen the nuclear winters that followed? The dead and the dying, blinded forever from the flash of impact? Do these scenes of massacre and torment simply roll over your eyes like the note cards that lay before you? In my previous time as a mercenary, I listened to many people woefully affected by the ambitions of the ZAFT government - a government you refuse to disown. Many of the mercenaries in employment today served honorably in the militaries of both ZAFT and the Earth Alliance, and now, with the war over, ZAFT has failed to instill pension to even its own when, opting to dissolve and cast off all responsibilities, as you do when you trivialize the death of newtypes and naturals.

Indeed, if we don't "form ranks against these hellish contraptions", where would we be? I need not wonder at all, for there are many craters on earth where non-coordinators dared to struggle alone. You, who advocate so freely the freedom of genetics, cannot understand that the people felled by the hand of ZAFT coming together to resist this dark menace? Tell me, why do you resist to form ranks with us against the worse evil - your fellow coordinators who bought such death and devastation to the world at large!

Again I say to you, for those of us who still honor PEACE, HONOR, and the divine sword of JUSTICE, so long as your allies in the Resurrection fleet float above us, there is no peace to be held! You say that I call for peace and war in the same sentence - but the truth is until the war is over, and the name of ZAFT is nothing more than a sentence in a history book - there can be no peace!

You must either align with the honorable forces of our mother earth, or die at our hands, Mr. Kepler! For I, in defense of greater humanity, would gladly lay down my life to prevent a second coordinator genocide! Tell me, Mr. Kepler, is Messiah to be the final liberation for our genetics, when it comes crashing down on our heads? How can you stand not to condemn such a dark and evil force! It is clear to me, as well as everyone this room, that peace cannot be said to exist until ZAFT is no more.

It is for this reason that we, Zeon, "tether" ourselves to this world, and though we could easily go home to Mars, are here as an harbringer of justice! You are correct to say that deep space is not enough - ZAFT must be ANNIHILATED from this world! Perhaps if we cast your leaders into the sun, they will finally find the ingredients necessary to create a moral human being, rather than an intelligent one.

And so, I must ask you this, Mr. Kepler. If you will not join the holy crusade to annihilate ZAFT as a representative of enlightened coordinators adjusted to the society at large, will you return to Messiah to join your fellow pariahs and plot our eventual destruction? If I am to be completely wrong, how will you, who as a representative of coordinators, bearing the guilt of so many dead men, prove to us your virtue?

"The time of those present is precious to me, and I would not like to waste it defending myself against personal attacks, but my opponent has left me little choice. I implore patience from those present as I briefly address some of my opponent's allegations. As before, I will ask those present to examine my past and present as evidence against the accusations he has laid at my feet. I was born to two loving parents, and received my education here on earth, at a local military academy, populated primarily by Naturals. It was not easy growing up in an environment where others viewed me as a hellish invention, Following my graduation, I did my best to ensure that the ideals I held dear would not be snuffed out by those who might disagree with me rather violently.

"I have taken no military action against any civilians, nor do I intend to. Does my past sound very unlike any other humans? Where is the evidence of the violence and extremism my opponent attributes to ZAFT? Where is the stubborn hatred of humanity, and desire for destruction? I am not affiliated with ZAFT; I am not even affiliated with Orb, which stands an embodiment of many of my ideals. (They are not perfect; I merely use them as an example of what humanity can accomplish when it works together.)

"Already, I have condemned the actions of ZAFT and the Earth Alliance in the war. I did so not less than 10 minutes ago! You who doubt it, read the transcription of our exchange, and judge for yourselves! You also condemn ZAFT, but you ignore the responsibility of the Earth Alliance - of all humans - for the war. Let the audience judge for themselves who is the arrogant one. You call for cooperation from me in your campaign against Coordinators, or death. You call for Newtypes and Naturals to band together against Coordinators, because of the actions of ZAFT. What of the war that Zeon fought so many years ago? Are Naturals to be demonized for the senseless killing of civilians in the One Year War? History is full of tragedies.

"Purposely, I have joined no organization, so that my ideas may stand on their own, to be heard and judged by any willing to receive them. I seek true justice, and true peace - not just for Naturals and Newtypes, but for all of humanity. I seek cooperation and understanding and you seek division and dehumanization. The peace that Blue Zeon would create would be a peace attained by annihilating all who might stand in their way. I shall let the audience determine for themselves the worth of such a peace, and the justice of such means.

"Today, I stand here today as a Coordinator who recognizes the heinous crimes that have been perpetrated against humanity in the name of war, and I accept responsibility for them, as part of the humanity that carried them out, and also as one who has suffered as a result of them. I wish to help restore the earth's beauty. Yet, you have returned my willingness to help with 'join us or die.' (I summarize, but that is your message, is it not?) Is there any place for Coordinators in the world Blue Zeon hopes to create, or must I declare hatred in order to be accepted in the world Blue Zeon wishes to create? I cannot, in good conscience, join such a movement.

I implore my opponent to engage my ideals, rather than assaulting my character; it is ideas we have come to discuss, after all.

Johnny stood silent. His opponent's last tirade had left him unsure of how to respond. He looked to the door outside - and became pale.

"Very good, Mr. Kepler. Perhaps it was improper of me to use a substitute to navigate your academic waters."

Charlie Alpha walked down the aisles, up the stairs, and excused his helper from the podium. Johnny was baffled at how the man he thought was dead, who he had only seen in videos and holograms, was standing before him in full form. As Charlie rushed Johnny out, his hand brushed against Mr. Alpha's. The feeling was hard, metallic, and cold - an android?!

"You must forgive my friend Mr. Dawson, truly he is only a soldier of Blue Zeon and not prepared to take the reigns. As well, I say hello to my former opponent in battle, Mr. Jameson who mediates our engagement today. People, we are in a crisis. Mr. Kepler seems to think by writing books and embracing pacifism, we will all see a brighter tomorrow. For this, I honor him, for he represents a movement for peace key to the advancement of order in our blue world. But I, Charlie Alpha, have a different responsibility. While people like my opponent sit in universities, learning the ways of ancient men and try to understand the crimes of the past - my place is on the battlefields of land, sea, air and space - fighting those enemies who would seek to destroy Mr. Kepler. They who would take his philosophies and twist them to his uses! Mr. Kepler, my esteemed academic opponent, does not fully throw away this life style as well! Look only to his mobile suit! Truly, I have but one call to all of humanity, and that is to arms - to arms to our enemies above!

As Mr. Kepler says, it is true, I am an agent of hate. For it is my job to hate genocide and injustice, and put my life as well as those under my command in harm's way, so that men of love, who feel grief, who have ambition and dreams beyond that of our wildest imaginations can fluster like blossoms in the glory of the sun! So long as ZAFT hangs above us in intimidation and swears resurrection, how can you go home to your children and say you fought to protect him? Will you wait until a colony wipes your children from existence! I challenge you Mr. Kepler - how can pacifism succeed in a world of war!

Not two days ago did a coordinator-led movement of mercenaries massacre my soldiers at Jaburo! You see, it is not about sleeper agents anymore, it is about true and present evil! Mr. Kepler, I beg of you, aid me, aid me in uniting this blue and pure world with the ranks of newtypes and coordinators united! I beg of you - no, I humble myself before you, tell me, in a world of the wanton destruction of mercenaries, what is a soldier of earth to do? Before we can even fathom to challenge ZAFT, this age of mercenaryism must end! I have put my forces on the line, those of Blue Zeon, and they have been sought out and destroyed by penny pinching oligarchs who seek to preserve anarchy as if it were a proper status quo!

I ask you, Mr. Kepler. Will you join me? Will you join me in bringing order to this blue and pure world?"

Enki frowned at this most recent development, this organization had many faces none of them true. He had sent a lackey to take his place in a debate only to interrupt him and disown him, throwing him away like a common dish towel. This new facade however was full of delusions and outright lies. There was no base called "Jaburo" and any soldier can hardly be said to have been massacred. Not only that but, it had been a mixed group, primarily composed of newtypes that had led the assault. Enki wondered to what lengths this man would get to spread his rhetoric and lies. He would need to be eliminated, to be destroyed before he could destroy what little life had started to grow on the earth sphere after the atrocities committed by both ZAFT and the Earth Alliance but, not here, not now. Not in this rarity of a neutral place this utopia of freedom and of genetic equality. The Junk Guild embraced this far more than even ORB, where members of the Guild knew of different genetics and cared not for the distinctions. Only marveling in the beauty of reality. Enki was reminded of an informal duet he had seen on arrival, two women singing for a crowd for the pure pleasure of it, this unification given by both and ejoyed by all was the worl Enki wished to create, it was that vision that filled Enki with hope and pushed away his rage.

Even Arnie who had been wide eyed throughout the debate furiously scribbling in his notpad glancing back up at Enki when he go behind and whispering "you have the audio of this, right?" now slouched in his chair. This was no debate, this was not what he had been told of by aging reporters in thier wheelchairs. This was a mockery, a comedy, and it enraged Arnie. It took every ounce of self control in his body not to stand up and denounce it.
